Newsom’s Shadow Campaign Ad in Alabama

Earlier this week, California’s Gavin Newsom released a pro-abortion ad in deep-red Alabama in the wake of that state’s latest pro-life legislation. In his latest stunt, the Golden State governor paints Alabama Republicans as women haters. In a social media post attached with the ad, he wrote: “Alabama’s abortion ban has no exceptions for rape or incest. Now, Republicans are trying to criminalize young women’s travel to receive abortion care. We cannot let them get away with this.”

In the ad, two women are driving in a car and have almost made it to the Alabama state line, presumably to reach a state with more expansive abortion laws. However, they are pulled over, and the very Southern-sounding police officer demands that the driver take a pregnancy test. The ad ends with her being arrested and looking desperately at the camera.

It’s a malicious attempt to promote a completely false narrative about Alabama and the pro-life movement. Pro-lifers do not want to criminalize mothers at all. They are going after abortionists. Newsom’s ad has to lie because the truth of his position is pretty ugly.

Perhaps Governor Newsom would do better to actually work on making California less of a hellhole before trying to mess with other states.

Biden Makes the Sign of the Cross at a Pro-Abortion Rally

Our president is no longer with us mentally. His fading understanding and near-constant gaffes are making that increasingly plain. Perhaps Joe Biden’s failing mental acuity explains the extremely offensive action that he took at a Tampa abortion rally.

While one of the speakers before him was deriding Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for helping to pass a six-week abortion ban, Biden can be seen behind her making the Catholic sign of the cross.

Many Catholics are rightly angered by this. How dare he invoke Christ as he and the rest of the pro-abortion groupies discuss murdering children. Not the Bee’s Harris Rigby suggests he did this as a laugh line. If he did, it’s a disgusting joke and unbecoming of a man who claims to be a “devout” Catholic.

The more charitable view is that he crossed himself in a mistaken thought that perhaps he was on stage for some other reason. This is possibly confirmed by his words later in the rally when it was his turn to speak. In an attempt to undermine his predecessor, he said: “[Donald Trump] said there has to be punishment for women exercising their reproductive freedom. … He described the Dobbs decision as a miracle. Maybe it’s coming from that Bible he’s trying to sell. Woah.” He crossly joked, “I almost wanted to buy one just to see what the hell is in it.” Well, hell is in the Bible, for starters…

Trump isn’t representative of the pro-life movement, of course. He is important to the pro-life movement’s fight — after all, he successfully nominated conservative jurists to the Supreme Court who ultimately helped overturn Roe v. Wade — but his words do not represent the movement. In 2016, Trump did say that there has to be “some kind of punishment” for women seeking abortions. However, Biden’s words mocking the Trump-endorsed Bible and the offhand comment that he’d want to see what was in the Bible could be interpreted as Biden having never cracked open the religious text he claims to follow.

Either way, Biden’s whole presentation at the abortion rally was an extremely serious misstep. DC Cardinal Wilton Gregory recently chided Biden as a “cafeteria Catholic,” as in one who picks and chooses what religious teachings of the Catholic Church to follow. That is a very charitable view of a man who has consistently flouted biblical teachings on abortion.

SCOTUS on Idaho Ban for Abortions

The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments this week concerning a case of a mother whose baby tragically developed Turner syndrome. If one were only going by the words of NBC, one would think this is a terminal diagnosis for every young baby, which obviously is not the case. (For starters, this syndrome only affects females.)

The mother’s doctors were convinced that her daughter’s abnormalities were such that she would not make it to full gestation. They were also concerned that the mother would develop Mirror syndrome and begin to have significant health complications that could potentially threaten her life as well.

SCOTUS’s job is to rule on whether Idaho’s doctors can use their own discretion to interpret the emergency care federal law known as the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act when deciding whether or not to perform an abortion. Idaho has a total abortion ban except for cases of rape, incest, or when maternal health is jeopardized.

Former Secretary of State and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton decided to chime in on the issue, saying: “The MAGA Supreme Court majority appears ready to rule that the right to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ doesn’t extend to women with pregnancy complications or who otherwise need abortions. This is horrifying, and it is because of Donald Trump.”

For Clinton, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness means baby murder. She’s happy to sound off on these rare, tragic circumstances, but she would be more than happy to see abortions without restrictions as the law of the land.

This case will be decided in June.

Conclusion

Pro-abortion advocates love to tell fabrications about what the pro-life movement really is. The movement isn’t against women; it’s for mothers, fathers, and their children. If pro-lifers go after anyone, it’s the abortionists providing the butchery, not the mothers. Pro-lifers seek to protect life. This is crucially important because the lives of mothers and children are precious and worthy of love and protection.

We should also keep in mind that abortion is contributing to a crisis in slow motion. Our 2023 birth rate was the lowest it’s been in any year since 1979. In 2021, there was one abortion for every five newborns. There are nearly a million murdered children in the U.S. annually, which, whether people acknowledge it or not, leaves an awful lot of unfilled chairs at family dinner tables.
