Bill, Social Security benefits should never be confused with transfer payments based upon poverty, that is a distortion which obscures the central issue. There is a significant wealth-transfer element built into Social Security, but it retains the element of return based in some part upon contribution. The problem which is destroying this country are the pure transfer payments such as welfare, foodstamps and so on, which require no contribution from the recipient. These have given us a more or less permanent parasite class, aka the Democrat base vote. You are not such a person.
