To stop a conflict in interest, any one drawing government assistance of any kind, should be taken off the voting rolls until the hand out stops.

The President may be buying his votes with our money (remember President Bush and the Medicare Drug Plan?) but, to me, the most disturbing thing about his numbers is that, if you talk to most people, they aren't disturbed by his behavior because they just aren't paying attention. Voters have gotten incredibly lazy. It's work to pay attention and a lot of people don't want to work at this. If they did, even with a candidate running a campaign that would have made Tom Dewey proud, Romney would still be comfortably ahead.

The economic disaster of socialism is the lack of understanding by people who teke from the government that everything must be paid for by someone. Thye fail to recognize the subtle effects of taking such as the things not produced that would spur the economy more than the taking of money feom the government. the government does not have any money or economic power withwhich to create jobs and consequently economic growth. every dollar given in entitlements has to come from somebody's pocket and thus those funds cannot be used to create jobs and spur economic growth. It is simple economics that if you use a resource for one thing something else gets left out and that is the fallacy behind re-distribution.

Given that the "rich" already pay the bulk of the taxes, hitting them even harder won't raise much revenue. BHO admitted this when he told Charles Gibson "It's not about revenue, it's about fairness." Or punishing the successful. Yup, that's teh way it is. If it's free, they want it. However, one thing these freebie lovers haven't considered is that once Obama is in again, the freebies will gradually dry up, and they will be worse off then they are now. Most of that group of Americans don't understand is that tehre is a price on everything whether it is out in the open or not. In all ways we pay, and in some cases dearly for our stupidity. If Obama wins, and God forbid he does, soon after he is in the White House again, the wringing of hands will start anew along with the whining and wailing about "Why didn't I vote the other way?" By then it will be too late. If you are willing to pay the price for your folly, then you deserve it.

The increasing poll numbers for Obama is no surprise, Democrats have always bought votes, a cell phone, smokes, free rides to the polling location with a ballot already marked. whatever it takes. Also not surprising is that I considerr the largest part of the Democrat base, is woefully ignorant and uninformed or stupid, take your pick. Democrats also do fuzzy math and polls are just polls, B.S. in and B.S. out, Their man is a disaster they know it and quite possibly the fuzzy poll numbers are supposed to demoralize the Republican voters. I know how disgraceful this President is, I have a read a library of books on him, and the people who vote for the man of perdition deserve him, except if effects everyone. Last question. Why is this guy still standing if not for a complicit Congress and SCOTUS?

Mark, you're preaching to the choir. You know probably much better than I that your readership is primarily those such as myself who are like-minded and in basic agreement with your political philosophy, statements and rather heroic efforts. Alas, and thus, you are not reaching those in what you accurately describe as the "murky middle". Personally I often forward your messages to those whom I believe to be receptive but perhaps not totally accepting. Those who have not as yet cemented their choice for president can, I believe, best be swayed by appealing to their emotions — a method that Obama, despite his alleged aloofness, has mastered. Hence the Romney-Ryan ticket must do a couple of things: 1) convince voters that Romney is not Bush, even criticize the policies (especially domestic spending) of the former president and explain the differences; 2) Obama will remain Obama — what you've seen is what you'll get — increased government intervention, increased debt, increased taxes, less employment, uncertain future and an overall weaker America. Voters are fearful for their future, the future of their children and the future of America. Cynical as it may seem Romney-Ryan must play to that anxiety and provide how the Republicans can alter that road to perdition that is promised by another 4 years of Obama.

Alexander's opinion below is very on point though I disagree with his take on the polling by the MSM which is proving to be downright deceitful and intent on discouraging people from voting - If Obama is ahead and going to win why bother to vote for Mitt? But, most people are asking how Obama can be ahead when over 50% of people are against Obamacare? Are we to believe that these people are going to vote for Obama? Or when over 70% of Catholics believe that what the Obama administration and the left is doing to the Catholic Church is nothing more than modern day persecution – forcing the Church to go against the very tenant of its teaching of life to forcibly accept the left’s culture of death, all under the phony guise of women’s issues? Are we to believe that the Catholics, and the Christians who see the persecution of the Catholic Church, are going to vote for Obama? What about our military personnel? The majority of them are against how the Obama administration is disarming them, literally and figuratively, throughout the world. Are we to believe that the majority of them are going to vote for Obama? So who is going to vote for Obama? Hard line leftists; blacks, whether politically conservative or not, because their skin color matches Obama’s; Hispanics, whether legal or not; welfare recipients; the dead; the elderly? The elderly are getting hit from both sides with arguments but there are some even within this group that knows Obama is going to hang them out to dry so they won’t vote for him. How about women and women's issues? Since women, and particularly single female headed househoulds are being hit hardest during this economy, are we to believe that women are going to view their vaginas as more important than a chance to have a good job, a roof over their heads, and a better future for their children? Sure, some women will see the state as their husband and opt for the pseudo-security of welfare benefits but I'm sure a lot would prefer something better for their children than that life. So my question is will all the groups who are voting for Obama be enough for him to win the election? I really think the majority of Americans will crawl over hot coals to vote against Obama no matter how much the media and leftist's polling organizations try to dissuade us not to waste our time.

These articles are great.. well researchedand backed up with facts. The only issue I have is simply this... I know all of this already! Have known for years now..along with EVERYONE else who received this via email. How do nail the feet to the floor of those on the gov't teet long enough to get this info to them and encourage them to at least look at what we see????

Romney should become our next President but he does not demonstrate the necessary "fire in the belly" to convince people to vote for him. Obama will be reelected with a subsequent violent unrest in this country to bring it back to the democratic republic the Founders had created, i.e. Obama will be removed from office by a violent act, by either domestic or foreign groups.

I disagree with the idea that BHO is a consummate politician. Nothing could be farther from the truth. He is a straw man invented and covered by a partisan media. When Obama wins in November, I expect the 22nd amendment will go away by April. Although I will (and always have) vote conservative, I honestly don't believe we'll win. As for Obama's polls, the reputable polls have this election about dead even. Obama being the incumbent has a 50/50 chance by default. We cannot change that, but we can ignore all the hyperbole and get everyone to vote right up to the last minute.

I read, I listen to the multitude of ads, news persons, and now about what Romney should do to win. Why doesn't he just say"Forget what I paid in Taxes, forget about the rich paying more taxes. Let's just get more jobs with workers paying taxes, that aren't being paid now , and we will have our economy headed back in the right direction". We need an informed electorate and it doesn't exist in my opinion. I don't think it will matter that much who is elected as President. Congress is the group that should be focused upon. We are in debt so deem and the public is so dependent on government entitlements that I am afraid that our country is destined to doom.

I am truly dismayed at the fact that a second term is a remote possiblilty. That is an indictment on the country as a whole. My greater worry is the electorate that put such evil idiots in office such as Pelosi, Reid, the campainger in chief and so forth. Elections should be an evolution that is honorable-character MATTERS. That is not the case today.

Okay, but while we're talking about the Great Depression, let's compare apples to apples. Back then a large percentage of women were not habitually employed. Now, most women are. So the fact that many of them may have left the workforce doesn't mean that families are worse off than they were in 1932. To give an example, my grandparents were hit hard by the Crash of '29. He lost his job at the Buick plant, and defaulted on his mortgage. But she had already given up her lucrative teaching job when she got pregnant with their first son in 1926. So her lack of earned income wouldn't have landed her on the unemployment lists back then. In 1988, my wife declined to renew her teaching contract when she became pregnant with her first son; but she was nonetheless advised to apply for unemployment on the grounds that the school she taught at had a policy against re-hiring her anyway, had she attempted to renew her contract as a pregnant woman. The loss of my grandfather's job had a devastating effect on his family. They left the city and moved to a farm where their pay was the use of a dilapidated hired-hand house, all the milk they could drink, and one hog a year. The family continued to live in poverty until the youngest child was old enough that my grandmother could go back to her lucrative taxpayer-financed career as a schoolteacher. On the other hand, my family has done quite well in the 24 years since my wife left the workforce, and she has no plans to go back. Instead, she has saved our local tax base over half a million dollars by educating our 9 children herself (it will be upwards of a million dollars by the time she is done in 2028).

The Romney camp is doing an awful job on advertising, attacking, and tossing out one-liner solutions to problems. The marketing and PR for the Republican party should all be fired. They have a winning combination with the Romney Ryan ticket and are letting it slip thru their fingers.

Does this include SS, Military Retired Pension and Disability from Service Connected health issues. i am just a transplanted Texan living in Florida, if it does, guess I don't vote. I don't consider these handouts. I have been and still paying into this so-called government assistance since I was about 15 years old when I got my first job, 26 1/2 years military service and now still paying taxes on all of these with the exception of the disability. This president only thinks he is in charge. There is one MUCH higher than him who holds my future, and any others who can be called HIS. While, no doubt, some of what you've written does weigh into why Obama is polling so well despite his dismal performance, I've come to the conclusion that far too many voters are simply clueless. I've watched in amazement lately as video after video, from a variety of sources, has shown how potential voters/past voters have ZERO clue about Obama or Romney ... ZERO clue about the economy ... ZERO clue about world events. They don't read a paper ... don't watch the news ... are not informed in the least bit. It's like they're watching the world through a drinking straw ...

If Romney does not start, here and now, to go after obama and hold him accountable for all the squandered tax payer dollars, for all the waste, for the weakening and demeaning of America in the eyes of the world, for all the 'end runs' around congress, for gutting welfare reform, etc. Romney cannot expect to win in November.

Time to toughen up and speak the truth! obama is quite the slick orator...Romney must be a tough customer in these upcoming debates, which are already stacked against him. 3 liberal moderators and the first debate being held on a college campus. The audience will be stuffed with obama supporters/students who will applaud, hoot and holler at every utterance from obama's mouth and who will boo and hiss at anything that Romney might state.

Obama is not invested in making America great, but in creating a welfare mentality that looks to the state for sustenance. America didn't become a great nation by developing people looking for a handout. Rather, it has been formulated by individuals seeking to produce a better life thru making contributions for the good of others. Obama is looking to make America a socialist nation. Socialism has never worked--and it never will. People don't go to socialist nations for the opportunity to better themselves. Let's give Obama the opportunity to be a community organizer again and vote in Romney!

We will soon learn just how pathetically uniformed the average voter has become. Were it not for the liberal mainstream media bias, the result of this coming Presidential election would be an overwhelming defeat of Obama. Count the number of viewers of Fox News and you will have a very accurate count of the knowledgeable voters in this country. Not enough to save our country from the worst demagogue in the history of our nation. For those citizens who receive their disinformation solely from the network news channels, most will remain ignorant and many will be totally deceived. You can't win an argument with a stupid person.

The Romney ticket is missing the point with the "Are you better off" campaign. He needs to attack Obama at his roots....Abortion, socialism, and abandoning our allies overseas.

I wish I could be more optomistic about Romney, but he is like McCain re-visited. The demorats have no qualms about getting down and dirty, yet Romney refuses to go that route. I think Ryan needs to introduce Romney to the basics of street fighting, get him fired up, make him man up so he can take obama on and see how good it feels to thump a commie.

Obama is following the FDR diagram almost exactly. He has the same envelope that FDR had. Plus the benefit of instant information puke. Romney strikes most folks I know as Obama lite. Maybe not, but he is not doing much to dispel that notion. As of this moment, it may not be a "shoo in", but Obama is going to win for the same reasons FDR did. As Mark Alexander has so clearly pointed out. The consequence of that win, for the Republic? I do not have oracle ability, but I suspect it is going to be ugly. Very ugly.

I am afraid that too many people in our country have become complacent and dependent on big brother. If the ballot box fails in November, our only recourse will be the bullet box. At 67, I stand ready to once again defend the constitution that I swore an oath to defend when I went to war in 1965. That oath is still in effect and will be until the day I die.

Probably the only way to change the culture in the USA (and in the world) is to change the way we COLLECT taxes. The national retail sales tax can replace the IRS, the income tax, the payroll tax, and many other taxes. Jobs would come rushing back into this country and it would become the main tax haven for worldwide investment. I've said it before and I'll say it again; every Conservative that talks about the job numbers needs to use the U6 number, which is the total number of unemployed including those not looking for work. It's needs to be drilled into the heads of every potential voter between now and Nov.

For over a decade I've come to be skeptical of polls. In recent elections the number of them has grown. Maybe someone knows, but how do they fund their operations, or in other words, following the money, I fear will not be reassuring.

I'm unabashedly a conservative, but all that is seen happening is not all that is happening. David Horowitz does not like him, but two of Gabriel Kolko's books are very telling. The first is on the railroad industry in America. I do not recall the title. The second is "Triumph of Conservatism." Now the title is wrong, but the facts are not. If one is defined as not making income one may not be taxed. FDR and his class created ways to avoid taxes. These are tax exempt foundations and municipal bonds. Fair tax sounds good unless you realize some need not declare all they earn. The rest of us do not have these avenues.
