Romney v Obama, Adult v Adolescent

It Will Take "Adult" Independent Voters to Defeat Obama

By Mark Alexander · Oct. 25, 2012
“A few short weeks will determine the political fate of America for the present generation, and probably produce no small influence on the happiness of society through a long succession of ages to come.” –George Washington (1778)

I am returning today from one of several Department of Defense national security forums I attend annually. These briefings cover current operations, horizon and over-horizon threats, and our capability to respond to those threats.

In presidential election years, military briefings can be a challenge. Uniformed briefers are very good at respectfully concealing their political opinion, and should be. Indeed, expressing dissenting political views from those of the Commander in Chief will land senior officers in front of a UCMJ tribunal.

Fortunately, there is abundant criticism of Barack Hussein Obama’s failed foreign and national security policies from Special Forces Operators, both enlisted and officer ranks, who have recently been honorably discharged. One of the most comprehensive objections is a detailed critical review of those policies in a bold new video on Obama administration “leaks” and Obama’s use of the killing of Osama as campaign fodder. It features an impressive lineup of American Patriots who, unlike Obama, have honored their oaths.

At this week’s briefings, there was a clear consensus among those attendees not in uniform that the next election is pivotal to our nation’s ability to defend itself abroad, and moreover, the future of Liberty at home. It was no small coincidence that in the midst of these briefings, the last presidential debate of this election cycle took place, focusing on national security and foreign policy.

Let me be civil in my choice of words and say that among fellow attendees, there was no enthusiasm for, or confidence in, the CINC’s foreign or domestic policies (with one notable exception – a former ambassador from a major European ally, now living in the U.S. on a green card). I mention this consensus by way of affirming the strong case we have made against Obama since he first stepped into presidential politics six years ago. Thankfully that case has extended deep into the wells of undecided voters, and we regularly hear from Americans who were ambivalent about how to vote until the The Patriot Post’s team of editors helped them understand what is really at stake – the future of Liberty.

So, the last presidential debate now concluded, the only question at this late stage of the 2012 presidential campaign is this: Are there enough adults among undecided voters, those who are not moved by the flood of Obama’s juvenile appeals, to turn back the socialist tide?

Obama can depend on two primary voter constituencies. About 30 percent of voters (60 percent of Obama’s support) comes from urbanites, whose allegiance has been co-opted by Socialist Democrats. Most in that group are enslaved on the Democrat Plantation where they have been inculcated with the belief they are dependent upon the state. Obama’s second constituency is the 10 percent of voters (20 percent of his support) who are irrevocably ideological socialists, from Leftist academicians to Hollywood glitterati and all malcontents in between.

So, are there enough independent voters who have the wisdom to discern between reality and Obama’s political rhetoric to make a difference?

The shrinking margin of independent votes will determine whether our nation moves toward the restoration of Essential Liberty, or follows Obama into the abyss of tyranny.

Clearly, this is a contest between a statesman who will restore the integrity and standing of the Office of President, versus a petulant adolescent and pathological narcissist who’s running the most disrespectful campaign in history, appealing to the worst in all who will listen to him.

As for the last debate and the two weeks remaining before Election Day, will Romney’s “adult” appeal work? Are there enough independent voters who qualify as “adults” to defeat Obama?

In the final debate, Mitt Romney sat quietly through accusations that his criticisms of Obama were “just not true” and that he was telling “whoppers.” Turns out that in each case, fact-checkers determined that Romney was right. But style is what gets points with the ignorant, and it too often trumps substance in political debates.

While there are significant threats to our national security, both foreign and domestic, the primary concern for grassroots independents is the economy. In three presidential debates, and at every Air Force One stop, Obama has and continues to insist, against a backdrop of economic decline, that his policies are working. His task is to convince independent voters that an outhouse has the fragrance of a floral shop – to divert their attention from the economy.

Will the deception work … again?

Romney hasn’t closed the gap in his disconnect with grassroots voters, not because he doesn’t genuinely care about Americans from all walks of life, but because his staff is top heavy with folks who, themselves, have no grassroots grounding.

The bottom line is that Obama can’t be trusted. If Romney will make that case over the next two weeks, it will resonate best with undecided grassroots voters.

At every campaign stop for the next two weeks, Romney must take the American people back to that moment just prior to the 2008 election, when Barack Obama said his objective was “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” Impress upon all Americans that this transformation has indeed begun, that it has been catastrophic, and Obama’s just-released “New Economic Patriotism” plan for jobs will seal the fate of our nation.

Romney must continue to drive home the fact that Obama’s policies have failed – there are 23 million, unemployed or underemployed, and those who have simply given up looking for work – and tens of millions more who are working, but have not received pay increases to keep up with inflation. On Obama’s watch, we have “record spending on welfare” – households considered impoverished have grown to one in six and there are 47 million food stamp recipients – up 50 percent since Obama’s election. Obama has also amassed $5 trillion in new debt, and our national debt now totals $16 trillion, which for the first time in history now exceeds U.S. annual economic output. Finally, he should keep reminding the American people that median household income has declined by $4,520 (8.2 percent) since Obama took office. This is the real “Obama tax.” Also, energy prices have doubled because of Obama restrictions, and economic growth has slowed to an anemic 1.3 percent.

Romney must make the case that Obama’s road “Forward” is a dead end. He has been elected once so he believes the American people can be fooled twice.

Finally, Romney should end every speech at every stop between now and November 6th with this bottom line: “Obama can’t be trusted.” He can’t be trusted with our national security. He can’t be trusted with our national debt and he can’t be trusted to restore the health of our economy. And he most certainly can’t be trusted with the future of American Liberty.

Of course, Obama has one more ace up his sleeve. He’s banking on the next jobs report, scheduled for release on Friday, November 2nd, to affirm last month’s report of a reduction in new unemployment filings. If that report can be spun as affirmation that Obama’s economic polices are working, every 24-hour Leftmedia talkinghead will be promoting that fallacy until every vote has been cast. Unfortunately, that report may well swing enough votes to get Obama re-elected.

I hope that there are "Enough Adult Votes Among Independents" to help Romney get elected. Four more years of Obama will see this nation in such sad shape that it will take generations at least, to recover.

While a good number of the military can see that Obama's foreign policy is dangerous to us, Colin Powell has actually endorsed the fraud in chief, Obama! I can't help but think this has the smell of racism about it.

If you bought a car from a dealer and it turned out to be nothing like the advertisement, would you buy a second car in 4 years from the same dealer? If you loaned a great deal of money to someone for a deathly sick friend and then found out the money was spent on other things, and wasted on terrible investments like untenable green energy scams, would you offer to loan them more money??

Then why in the world anyone, including Colin Powell, ever vote for Obama a second time. My mother always said, Once burned, twice shy. That means clearly to steer clear of liars and cheats. Sadly, our current President, Barack Hussein Obama, fits into both categories.

It may well be the last minute 'funny math' with the jobless statistics that may very well swing this election in obozo's favor. The left has been using 'funny math', out right lies, twisted facts, deflections from the truth, and character assassination to try and win this election. The leftist media; newprint, news broadcasts that have tried in every way to discredit Mitt Romney and to celebrate and give adulation to obozo's failed policies and treachery. There are the idiots who walk among us who believe all of this tripe and worship this leftist messiah no matter what. The obozo and his minions have frightened the elderly so terribly that they are convinced that Mitt Romney is going to take away their subsidized housing, their medicarae and medicaid plus their social security would also be in his target sites...when in fact, it's just the opposite...obozo is no friend of the elderly, HE's the one who stripped $716 billion OUT of medicare, HE's the one, and his criminal cronies, that trumpeted his socialized medicine which is totally unfriendly to the elderly, ie, rationed care... Yes, this indeed is a frightening time and to think it's the idiots who will help to possibly re-elect this tyrant.

Every statement that you've made is true, and the ONLY reason that the "unemployment numbers" dropped is because California (the largest state in terms of employment) conveniently didn't submit their numbers in time to be included in the report.

I the Ignorant make this confession; 1st THEY came for the unborn for THEY did not want to share with those whom were an inconvenience and THEY would not notice their abscence hence, & I said nothing. Thence THEY came for the producers, & limited the produce of the producers, & I said nothing. When the producers had little more produce to be taken, surrogates had to be sacrificed, and so THEY came for the sick who partook of the now finite pie, as the sick were a burden & used too much of the pie, but that was insufficient, & I said nothing. And so THEY came for the elderly who partook of the now dwindling pie, as the elderly in their retirement were idle mouths to feed from the ever tinier pie, but that was insuffienct, & I said nothing. So then THEY came for the once producers who partook of the now miniscule pie, as the producers in their imposed indolence were guilty of less than their capabilities, so revenge was exacted for their unseemly schackled sloth, but I said nothing. And thence THEY came for I because I wanted more from a lesser pie, but there was no one else to be taken, & there was no one to speak for I.

I tend to agree with some of the readers that no matter whom we elect, it will be difficult to change the path of socialism. Once the door is open, it rarely closes again.

Addtionally, I live in a state where my vote doesn't count and never will as long as the electoral college is the final vote caster.

Patriot1775, so true. I see virtue in having more time for patriots to organize and therefore this election matters in the short run, in the long run the system must end in collapse.

I guess every 4 years is long enough to wipe the slate and get the folks fighting over relative small potatoes while the boys running the show laugh all the way to the bank.
There is a big picture with important issues at the top of the list. Give up your dream of extra benefits, freebies, titles, feel good, my team wins, my vote for a buck.
Real important politicians are called statesmen, we are in short supply.
This country is more enamored with Hollywood and theatrics than reality, no fun I guess.

I do not see much of that Christian help your fellow man ethic, practiced or taught, that this country was built on? I don't think name calling and intimidation show much in the way of intelligence or capabilities, I think the name for this is Low Balling or Easy To Please, not much in the way of taste.
With not much in the teaching department how can one expect the younger set to learn all that may really help them and set examples to follow..........

While it looks like voters have awakened to the truth, I still worry that Obama has prepared to steal the elections, with electronic voter manipulations. He has allowed the U.N. group to enter the U.S., to "monitor" our elections? He has appointed an old friend from Chicago, to man the online vote count? Can he do that???? If so, it's "fixed", for Obama. I pray for America, and Mitt Romney.

There are enough adults if the adults get off their butts and go vote. The reason the muslims and other minorities can push conservatives around is because they make noise and we the people and especially our elected Republicans let them get away with it. This man's lack of experience and knowledge is revealed at every level of domestic and foreign challenge our nation has faced during his tenure. BO obviously does not have our best interests at heart as evidenced by his deplorable record and actions to date. His future plans for us will send us into a deep, dark place, none like we have ever seen before--this is borne out in "Obama's 2016" documentary put out by Dinesh D"Souza. When I think about BO's plans to fundamentally change the world , it scares me beyond reason and I have to wonder why more people aren't talking about this--if it were a Republican, that is all we would be hearing about in the news. BO is toxic for this country and does not deserve another shot at trying to destroy our country for his own selfish, narcissistic gain.

I meet too many successful people who ignore the need for charity at home and purge their feelings of guilt by adopting the generalized concept of "social Justice". which requires no personal action on their part. They take emotionally rewarding positions like" there is no reason why in this wealthy country no one should be without free health care'". In order to sustain their emotional security they remain willfully ignorant of the available facts and choose to believe as fact whatever is said that will sustain their emotional security. Rational discussion will convince none of them .Tthey are wholly convinced of their version of "facts" and dismissive of yours and mine because only their "facts" sustain their emotional needs.

I am totally amazed at the polls. They remain very close . Can it be that the American people (of which I am a proud one) are this stupid, blind and complacent that they do not see what is /has happened to our country during the past 4 years of a super Democratic majority with a Democrat as President. For the past two years Congress has been split , thank goodness. This bunch of thugs ,czars and tax evaders have torn up the Constitution, mocked the courts, pass laws through Executive privilige ,driven us into a debt my grandchildren may not recover from, racially divided this country more than any one group in my life time. This group of apologists has to be out on their ear or we will not survive another four years without ,hopefully peaceful, revolution.
