I hope this never happens but there is a questiion that should be answered especially for one in the military. I have yet to get a good answer.Where is the line separating fighting for the Constitution and the people against an insurrection on one side, and on the other side between fighting for the Constitution and the people against a tyrant acting under color of law?

Chris, I really like the substitution of the word 'flag' with the word 'Constitution'. Is that your idea. It is a 'new pledge' that says it all for me! Would it be okay for me to use that phrase?

I guess I am "running late", but so glad I founf and read James C. Coleman's Comments ( 'Pledge to the Constitution')posted 11/12/2009 !! The "pledge" he shared was NOT aimed at being substituted for "The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag"....but an extention of our committment to our Country. Thank you so much, Mr. Coleman. After being elected as a member of our local County Commission in Sept. 2002, I took "The Oath". I served until 2006...but I am STILL bound by that oath and will die under that Oath

Gregg, I don't mean this to sound simplistic but as a 22-year retired veteran, I would say that the line IS the Constitution. If you're "fighting for the Constitution" as you said in both of your examples, then your choice will be obvious because only one side will be doing the same. It's a great question because I believe that in this day and age, more than any other in our history, it is vital that every military person have this issue settled in his or her mind. I take it that you're in the military. Good for you for asking yourself the question now rather than later.

I believe that you don't have to be in the military to swear oath to uphold, preserve and defend the constitution and hold accountable those who would serve to violate or subvert it's meaning. We must all pledged oath and stand ready to defend "The Constitution" with our property, our very lives and sacred honor as our founding fathers once did. With GOD's "Grace" and "Benevolent Hand" we just might survive this "progressive" onslaught.

I once was a republican, now I am a Constitutionalist. If they don't go by the law of the land, the vote them out.We can't get them in one elections but our persistance can get them in multiple elections.

It is really a shame that one person wants to have HIS own constitution in effect and ruin our country. Our constitution was written by rightous men who fought for our freedoms. This person in office who has not followed his oath and wants to banish our freedoms needs to be repudiated and voted out of office period! Little by little the government is taking our freedoms away and most of the public does not even know it or really care. So SAD!!!

I firmly believe that our Constitution is a divinely inspired document and that America "is the last best hope for freedom loving people on earth". God preserved this nation for freedom loving people and for his purposes. Americans are blessed to be citizens and with that comes a responsibility to preserve the Constitution. We owe a great debt to those who have gone before who have given their "lives and fortunes" in defense of that Constitution. God help us if we don't wake-up and fight for our freedom.

Obama and his minions are in the midst of a bloodless coups de'tat. We are kidding ourselves if we think otherwise. Naturally, subterfuge and deceipt are the primary tools of such a takeover and change of our beloved country. After they create a "good enough crisis," I would not doubt they will tell us we need to replace the Constitution - and that it would be the patriotic and modern thing to do. At the moment, we are at war. Both literally, and philosophically. The war overseas is easy to see, and the war at home is also just as obvious. What is not as obvious is that while the Republicans try to wage war by somewhat following the rules, the Democrats will ignore all rules when it gets down to the point of desperation. Why is not any attention paid as to how destructive this bill really is? Why does the press still ignore the destruction of our future, the shredding of our Constitution, the loss of our Liberty, and the socialist agenda of this administration? It's a shame the president is on a ego trip, and to make it worse so many have signed into it. I don't know how they expect these programs will work, when only so few are paying the way. Government has to be made accountable.. "NOW" I wonder where these people expect to live in this country. But I really don't want them in my back yard if we go thru hardtimes.

I will be 69 years old my next birthday and I am a Christian, conservative republican in that order. I have seen many presidents and administrations come and go I have no respect for the current one. I was taught, early on, to love my country, respect and defend the constitution and the office of the president of the United States of American. I was not taught to respect the person occupying the office, which I do not!

In my lifetime (78+) years there were two visual scenes I will never forget; the last helicopter out of Saigon, circa 1975; and the members of the U.S. Senate in the well of that chamber, lining up to pledge impartiality in the trial of Bill Clinton after he was impeached by the House of Representatives circa 1998-99. I believe the dishonorable foreign policy and domestic policy actions of our elected Congress were on full display then. Recent events show that nothing has changed! Oh the shame. Well I had to say something and I am glad I did, I said " Your welcome", well she began to call me a honkey red neck piece of shit. My response was clear and direct and non racial as I rebutted and said " I just payed $640.00 dollars in federal taxes in the past two weeks which pays for your meals, so your welcome. The Faithful oath of office...Well he sure as snow is NOT faithfully upholding nor preserving the Constitution! To say in some oft handed way, "...the Constitution doesnt allow me to do that..." when talking about becoming involved in a huge undertaking in government takeover of somesort or another. Having just reread General Mc Arthur's Farewell Speech at West Point fo rthe third time I'm left to wonder where they all went those people who knew and lived by the words Duty, Honor Country. My family has had members who fought in all wars from the Civil War on and did so with a feeling of pride in their service to this wonderful country which offers so much to it's citizens. I to wonder what happened in my life time where when going to school I was thught our history which include all wars from the French Indian on. Amoung the subject taught were alos the Constitution, a document which other nations are evnious of and at the same time feasrful of because it recognizes the rights of the individual. Perhaps this is why so many come to this country, Our way iof life offers them the opportunities they could never have in their native lands. Now however this document and our very way of life is under attack from within and it seem trher is no way to prevent it. Look at the people in elected office or running for an elected office. I truly believe there is not an honest man or patriot amoung them. Their true platform has only three planks Lie, Cheat and Steal. Lie to get into office , Cheat while in office and Steal all you can from you country while in office. You have a president who disregards the Constitution a Congress who gives a standing ovation to a foreign head of state (President of Mexico) who castigates our country for trying to enforce it's laws on immigration because it would interfere in his countrys illegal immigration to this country. However, his own country is in reality a failed state run by drug trafficking organizations who terrorizs and murder it's own citizens and the government cannot protect them.

If a President swears to the Oath of Office and then does absolutely the opposite of that Oath, it would seem to me that would be grounds for impeachment and immediate removal of an 'unfaithful', lying traitor to this country and all that it stands for. But then we live in a very 'liberal' society and must 'give him a long leash that will eventually pull us all down into the depths of 'Socialism & Communism' under the guize of a 'living constitution'? Let us remember that very few presidents EVER could pass the test of upholding their oath to the Constitution. NOT A SINGLE PRESIDENT in the past 100 years, Republicrat or Demipublican, ever upheld their oath as they are constitutional required. I took the Oath when I was drafted into the U.S.Army 14 Apr.70 .I served my country faithfully and returned a disabled Veteran. Where do I sign up for this pledge/lawsuit? I had switched from Republican to Constitution Party about 10 years ago for just this reason that the Constitution was not being followed any longer by either of the 2 major parties.

Shortly after becoming Chancellor, Adolph Hitler had the German Army's officer corps swear a new oath, one that included personal fealty to the Fuhrer and Adolph Hitler, personally. This oath and the honor of the mostly Prussian officers kept them from recognizing the evil of Hitler and from taking action against him and his criminal regime until Colonel von Stauffenberg led the 20th of July 1944 assassination attempt. Individual LIBERTY is the ONLY goal.The problem with the Constitution is that it requires another Amendment: The failure is that there is no penalty in Congress, POTUS, or SCOTUS for violating their oath, or Constitutional articles and duties and their restrictions. I propose this Amendment lay out severe penalties for violation of the Constitution and its' principles for ALL government agencies, departments, particularly including the big three: Congress, POTUS, and especially the SCOTUS. Also included in this Amendment will be term limits for EVERYONE including bureaucrats responsible for enforcing regulations and laws. NO MORE LIFETIME GOVERNMENT functionaries. These entrenched reptiles are responsible for the rapidly deteriorating situation we are presently in. The problem I see is that, even though the Constitution preserves the right "to petition the government for redress of grievances", it gives us no means to do so; we are solely reliant on those very scoundrels that have pushed us to this point.I offer this as an idea that needs consideration and a plan of action. Let's get started, and hopefully, we won't need our guns to start over.

Until it is explained how Obama went to school in Indonesia as an Indosian citizen, how he went to college in the US under a Fullbright "FOREIGN" student scholarship, how he went to Pakistan as a college student (what country's passport did he use), and where all the money came from when he finished college (over a million dollars): I will not call him president because he is not native born/natural born as outlined in our Constitution.

for get the new versions of it, first eradicate those trying to ignore the Constitution. those that are trying to make the USA much less than what it is, A Republic of the people and by the people! which means that the Military oath has no meaning until they act upon it. We need a military take over that will re-establish the Constitution as the law of the land, no outside foreign interruptions of law but only what the Constitution states. Suspend the congress and the president until the next election when the whole procedure is overseen by the military. This means background checks at a military level. Control and oversee all ballots and the counts of ballots under the controls of documents judged secret in nature.

John Adams' famous, and chilling, warning - "a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever:" Let us hope in this: that our America has not passed such a "tipping point." We have lost so much and so much so recently. May God grant us wisdom and strength to restore what was ours to guard and pass on to coming generations.

I hear people say that the Constitution should be changed. It was written over 200 years ago and many things have changed since then. It is time for changes to the Constitution. I ask: the Bible was written thousands of years ago and it has not changed, so why do we need to change the Constitution? Common sense, morals, fairness and rights don't change; they are the same today as yesterday.

When our elected officials who swear to uphold the Constitution turn their heads away from it's precepts, follow corrupt leaders and otherwise sell not only themselves out, but their country as well, it becomes time for the people to stand up to what will certainly become tyranny, if they ignore.
