A male teenager, acting in typical young boy fashion, relieved his bladder into a reservoir near Portland, Oregon. A similar incident occurred three years ago nearby that resulted in 7.5 million gallons of water being discarded. Now, 38 million gallons will be flushed thanks to the 19-year-old’s urinating. The Associated Press notes, “The urine poses little risk – animals routinely deposit waste without creating a public health crisis – but [Water Bureau administrator David] Shaff said he doesn’t want to serve water that was deliberately tainted.” According to Shaff, “There is at least a perceived difference from my perspective. I could be wrong on that, but the reality is our customers don’t anticipate drinking water that’s been contaminated by some yahoo who decided to pee into a reservoir.” And most taxpayers probably anticipate their money being used more wisely.
