House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reiterated she doesn’t want to reform immigration law; she only wants Barack Obama to get the $3.7 billion he requested. Referring to both the money request and Republicans’ desire to amend the 2008 anti-trafficking law that slows deportations for children from noncontiguous countries, she said, “I think those are two different things. You want to talk immigration, talk immigration. You want to honor the value of our country in terms of humanitarianism and due process, pass the other bill. There’s no reason why they have to be tied.” Yes there is. If Congress doesn’t tie them together, it’s akin to mopping up the floor before turning off the tap.
