The Patriot Post® · ISIL Withdraws from Parts of Kobani After More U.S. Airstrikes

Airstrikes against ISIL may not be enough on their own, but there is some indication of good news as a result of a ramped up campaign. The U.S. went from just a few airstrikes against ISIL targets in Kobani to more than a dozen a day. It seems to have worked. The Wall Street Journal reports, “Islamic State forces withdrew from several neighborhoods in Kobani Thursday as U.S.-led coalition warplanes and local Kurdish forces stepped up their attacks to loosen the extremist group’s siege of the northern Syrian city, a monitoring group and local reporter said.” Holding Kobani against ISIL is strategically important because of its proximity to Turkey and its symbolic importance in the larger fight. The news of ISIL’s retreat is welcome, indeed.
