Just this past week a sitting Democrat Governor (NC) called for the suspension of federal elections and now a Democrat Congressman is calling on the President to declare a state of emergency and ‘hire’ all unemployed at a guaranteed salary – naturally, there’s no indication of how this is to be paid for.

Illinois Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. told The Daily Caller on Wednesday that congressional opposition to the American Jobs Act is akin to the Confederate “states in rebellion.”

Jackson called for full government employment of the 15 million unemployed and said that Obama should “declare a national emergency” and take “extra-constitutional” action “administratively” – without the approval of Congress — to tackle unemployment.

“I believe … in the direct hiring of 15 million unemployed Americans at $40,000 a head, some more than $40,000, some less than $40,000 – that’s a $600 billion stimulus. It could be a five-year program. For another $104 billion, we bailout all of the states … for another $100 billion, we bailout all of the cities,” he said.

These comments coming from elected officials on the Left should not be so easily dismissed. This is a glimpse into the mindset of those who now represent the Democrat Party. In line with the Alinsky tactic of the ends justifying the means, it gives one legitimate reason to wonder just how far the Progressive movement in this country is willing to go to ensure social justice.

Having heard Obama talk about the shortcomings of the U.S. Constitution in regard to “redistributive change” and describe it as “a charter of negative liberties,” does he reach a point where he begins to agree with these radical measures? And if so, what does that do to the state of this country?

Perhaps, the American people are not going to be choosing between two political parties in the upcoming election as much as they’re going to be deciding if we stand by the founding documents that have ensured the most successful society in all of human history for the past 234 years, or does the tyranny of self righteousness take precedent?

C.S. Lewis said it best;

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
