Understanding is a wonderful thing. But it usually takes years, a slew of bad moves, and a rare willingness you see oneself as being in the wrong, to get so much as a drop of the stuff. Unfortunately, as a society, we're a little light on respect for the wisdom of the elderly these days. The value for "understanding" has been largely replaced by What's Cool, at best. At worst it's place is usurped by liberal pretenders, who imagine that they're acting from the deepest of sympathetic feelings, while consistently placing the rights of the offenders ahead of those actually injured.

In the mean time punishment has its place. I would favor a society which levied no penalty on harm done to pedophiles caught in the act, or shortly thereafter. The protective wrath of parents should be well honored and serve as a deterent. I would favor a society which effectively placed pedophiles out of the reach of children. A decent and safe place with inviolate borders. I would make sure that those in a position to allow their re-entry into general society would be former victims of pedophiles who have been trained to discern genuine and proven repentance and healing. Perhaps people like you could join them with a seat on the panel.
