I have read the book "One Second After"which is a fictional story about an Electromagnetic pulse attack. The author is a scientist, and he clearly explains how this is a real possibility; something we should learn about and try to prepare for. The book brings up several things that would result, not only those mentioned in this article, but also long term effects such as how do we feed ourselves after the food supplies are gone; how do we know what is going on when there is no communication; how do we protect ourselves against bands of roving Marquette looking for food themselves?
I know this isn't the main theme of this article, but the possibility of an EMP attack frightens me as much as anything, and our president seems to think if he just charms our enemies with his greatness, they will Love us and we will all live in peace and harmony.....
