Our Lives, Our Fortunes and Our Sacred Honor

A new Declaration of Independence

By Murray T. Bass · Dec. 17, 2012

There are many parallels between today and 1776: taxes, regulations restricting trade, and arrogant representatives who do not represent our interests. They openly ignore them as they represent a new “standing army” of armed regulators. The list is long and goes on. Our constitutional guarantees and Bill of Rights have been and are being ignored. Worse, some are being denied.

Just as King George and parliament ignored us in the 18th Century, we have reverted to the denied freedoms of the colonial days. It's time for the Sons of Liberty to rise again.

I have been writing columns for the Fairfield (CA) Daily Republic for more than 25 years, primarily about local matters and concerns of seniors. In my opinion pieces I have been emphasizing that it is our responsibility as individuals to make changes happen. Pack the City Council, County Supervisor an School Board meetings. Insist on the changes that will begin to restore our God given rights and responsibilities. At the school boards, for example, reaffirm that it is NOT the responsibility of the School Board, Administration or teachers to teach about sex ,and tacitly approve immoral behavior by issuing medications to prevent pregnancy. Nor is it their responsibility to authorize abortions without the knowledge or consent of parents. It is the parent's responsibility. It is not the responsibility of the school to feed our children. That's our responsibility, and, our right. Demand the schools get out of the business of sex education. They are teaching and approving sexual activity and deviancy, too. Insist they fulfill their responsibility for providing fundamental skills to our children. That is an absolute must. Make that the prime responsibility of the School Board. In many districts, board involvement in anything involving instruction has become a no-no. Require performance of the administration. If they do not perform, find new administrators. Find what works and use it. Use success based programs rather than esoteric “research ” based programs that do not work. Demand transparency. The point? If enough parents in enough places demand a return to parental responsibility and school performance, those changes will be made.

Our country is at a place in its life where history is repeating itself. The people who are supposed to represent us do not. They are ignoring us and representing themselves and King Barack instead. Many acts or failure to act are grounds for impeachment. But because we have partisan “establishment” legislators, who support the impeachable acts or failure to act, there is no possibility of impeachment. The legislature itself is failing to fulfill its responsibilities dictated by the Constitution. Open purses and continuing resolutions. We cannot expect them to support a return to original intent and the rule of law. They are a major part of our problem. Some states might support a restoration of our God given rights. But many of the state governments and bureaucracies are as corrupt as is the Federal system. What it boils down to is this. It is up to you and I to make governments change. It is up to us to bring about the restoration of our Republic. I should confess at this point that I am an old guy (84) who has no position to protect and have very little to lose. So it doesn't take a lot of courage to call for a New Declaration of Independence. That's what I'm doing. I am no John Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Madison, Jay or Franklin. But, I am assembling a list of offenses by Obama against the people and a bill of indictment against him and the legislature. While there are plenty of sources for those things, it is hard to sort out the facts from opinion. If anyone out there would like to help me, I would welcome it. I have no illusions about the new Declaration" being anything official. I do believe something like that well crafted and widely distributed might begin a movement among the people to restore our founding principles.

In the meantime, we should not abandon the vote. The same masses of citizens who fill meetings locally can do the same with congressmen and women. Intimidate them and make them feel threatened. Find good opposition candidates and vote the establishment out. These experiences can be both exciting and fun. The Central Solano Citizen/Taxpayer Group challenged the city on an illegal transfer of funds from a utility to the general fund. They did it creatively. Airplanes towed banners saying, “ H— No No on measure H.” And we won, saving the citizens about $2.5 million a year. It was great fun and a great bonding experience. Is that kind of fun and bonding possible on a national scale? Yes, I think so.

In 1776, 56 men pledged to each other “our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.” I wonder how many good men and women out there are willing to do the same today. I'm willing because I have little to lose. Only my life of which there is little remaining anyway. Right now I need the ideas of folks brighter than I am to create the document which will be the new Declaration of Independence. Any takers?

Add these to the Constitution: No Senator or Representative will serve more than 2 terms in Congress in a lifetime nor receive a pension for serving. While in office must abide by the same rules and regulations as any other citizen. All Federal judges will be appointed for no more than 6 years. Illegal aliens will have no rights to any government assistance and will be deported immediately. Borders will be secured by US Army and Marine troops with orders to apprehend and detain anyone crossing the borders illegally. No children born to illegal aliens will be given American citizenship. Any person coming into this country legally will have a sponsor and will not be eligible for any government assistance Federal or State. English will be declared the official language and will be adhered to by the Federal and State governments with no documents recognized unless written in English. Remove the UN out of our country and our country out of the UN. Some of these may be harsh but if we are to save our country we must enforce them.

Muany of the things you suggest are already law. We need to penalize politicians and bureaucrats for not enforcing the law. With the President, that's an impeachable offense.

The US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corp, US Coast Guard, US Border Patrol, US Marshalls, US Secret Service, FBI, ATF, DEA, CIA, TSA, US Park Service, have I left any out of this list? Ther also may be sections of larger agencies: NCIS, etc.

I'm all in, Murray. I'm a little bit younger than you and busy as a beaver, but I will find some time. Do you literally want someone to begin a draft for a new "Declaration"? I would be willing to work on it. I know another fellow who would want to participate. We would need a small committee to work out the wrinkles and make "pass/no pass" decisions as sections were written and submitted. But, we do not have to ride on horseback for two days to make a meeting and communicate. WE HAVE THE INTERNET. It is more doable today than it was then.

I could start a sign-up sheet (comment section) on one of my blogs for people to opt-in and post suggestions. What do you think, men? I see the names of some real patriots in the comments right here. Murray has a great idea. Who's in? Is the idea of a sign-up workable?

George. You inspire me. Yes, I think the more good minds and courageous hearts we can bring onboard, the better the new declaration will be. I see it as an opportunity to actually DO something to bring about change.
Most folks know the Declaration's beginning and ending statements , Stirring and inspiring. Those same people do not think of the charges and indictments with which the colonists justified their Declaration. Nor do they realize that those 56 men declared that when a government usurps the God given rights of the people and has despotism as its objective "it is their Right, it is their Duty to throw off such government an provide new Gusrds for their future Security." It's almost as if we have been instructed to "throw off" this government of ours.
Yes, George, enlist as many courageous patriots as you can. There are more than enough charges to build indictments of both King Barack and Congress. Thank you for your boldness in stepping forward.

But, Like Murray said, we probably want to work closely with the Patriot Post, if we can. I am willing to host the site, even through development of the document. Maybe the Patriot Post would comp us a little ad space with a link?

wjm: It did say it well, very well... and yet Washington pays no attention to it, or the Constitution. So, I think Murray is just saying that we need to say it again. The folks working inside the beltway in D.C. have forgotten that we are the sovereign. We need to RE-declare our independence from them and make the point, by a list of our charges and indictments against King Obama and Congress, that we are not sitting here letting them steel our liberty by the continuance of their violations.

David Limbau's book, "The Great Destroyer", is all the indictment we need. What do you think King George III did with the original document when he read it? He either ignored it or he sent the redcoats to suppress an uprising. So what do you think King Barack will do, and are you ready for it?

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Orf in Pittsburgh said:

Here is a kind of basic outline for a new Declaration. Many additions can be added on as it suits our purpose.

Since the original Declaration of Independence of 1776 has defined the self-evident truths that all people are created equal in the eyes of God and are endowed by Him with the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness; government derives its just power from the consent of the governed. The purpose of government is to secure these fundamental rights. Although government should not be changed for trivial reasons, the people retain the right to alter or abolish government when it fails in its just purpose. The people may then institute a new government that will obey God’s law, the rule of law, and the United States Constitution.

The present Congress and Executive Branch of government have failed to obey the Constitution and so far exceeded its well defined limits that the people no longer have the liberty of past generations and are oppressed by thousands of government regulations that inhibit commerce and limit the welfare of the people.

We, therefore, the citizens of the United States of America, solemnly publish and declare that these United States must be free to return to the liberties of the past and that Congress must follow the rule of law, not the rule of men; that Congress must make no law that abridges or defies the Constitution and its Amendments; and that those at high levels of government who have committed treason should be impeached and be subject to judicial punishment.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 7:26 PM

Murray Bass in California replied:

Good start Orf. The big jo is going to dig up all of those offenses that have been swept under the table during the past four years and give them the light of day as the basis for our charges and inductment.Do you have any ideas on how we might do that?

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:32 PM

Orf in Pittsburgh replied:

Since King George was the object of the original Declaration, we could follow the same pattern but substituting King Obama. It could go like this:

The history of President Obama is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations of power, all having the object of establishing tyranny over the States. To prove this, the following facts are submitted:

He has forced a health care legislation, unread by the legislators, through Congress, which is an attempt to control a large segment of the national economy at the expense of the citizens, while forcing them to buy insurance or suffer a substantial penalty.

He has ignored the Constitution despite his oath to uphold that document.

He has ignored the rule of law on many occasions, including the Defense of Marriage Act, immigration law, and innumerable cases of voter fraud.

He has committed treason by sending taxpayer money to our known enemies.

He has lied repeatedly to the American people in order to assure his reelection.

Etc, etc.

When you post a comment, my site should email me your email address. I will then distribute the entire list to our core, charter volunteers, so we can all keep in touch. MY E-MAIL address will be listed on the hosting page. You can send me an email there if you do not want your address distributed. We are probably only talking about maybe ten people to start with.

Oh, yes, I found another site that started a petition to adopt a new Declaration, but it apparently has died with only about 6000 signatures. I will also provide a link to that document.

Talk it up with other folks who are hanging here at the PP. If we actually get something going on this, we must commit to doing everything we can for the Patriot Post, too. They brought us together, because of the great job they do.

My final and most important word. Never, never forget that Murray T. Bass started this. An 84 year old man simply spoke from the heart, with courage, and suggested we DO something. God Bless you, Murray. We do not yet know the outcome, but we ARE now doing something.

"Our Lives, Our Fortunes, Our Sacred Honor". Amen.

I asked them to have audience send comments and volunteers to either your comentary or to mine and I left n=my e-mail address as well, A low percentage ploy. But I copied Beck's staff so maybe we will get some attention.I think someone should contact Rand Paul, Star Parker And Thomas Sowell. Sowell is a responsive guy, I gave up on Broascast TV so I don't really know who the best contacts are, It would be very helpful if sonmone were to pick up that ball and run with it,. George,it sounds like we are gaining a little momentum. By chance, do we have the names and contact points of those 6000? 6010 is a better nuber to start with than ten. Patriot Post has a readership of 250,000 according to Jordan. it would be helpful if we could get something in the Post diretly, Not everyone reads commentary. Better tostart with 256,010 thatn 10. Who do we talk to about that?Lastly, I think what we are doing would appeal to the Koch Brothers. They might fund us. I would like to think we could do it on the cheap.
