Thoughts on Freedom and Those Who Condemn It

Many thoughts come to mind on this 4th of July holiday to celebrate our freedom and the birth of our country.

From Wikipedia:

Independence Day of the United States, also referred to as Fourth of July or July Fourth in the U.S., is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States.

It can be hard to understand that freedom of speech can also mean people saying and doing things that show complete disregard and contempt of that right. What makes some people like that? I certainly don’t know and so often the reasons they give are unbelievable. Why do so many people want to come to our country in hopes of a better life? Obviously life isn’t that great where they live or they wouldn’t be so desperate to leave.

The people that do so many things to dishonor our flag and our country don’t see that. Seems to me like it has to be intentional. It shouldn’t take a genius to understand some simple facts. It doesn’t take any real courage to stand on an American flag or burn it in public when they know nothing bad will happen to them. Sometimes a veteran or a patriotic person may try to talk some sense into them, and on a very rare occasion, maybe some mild physical handling.

These people who are so unhappy with their freedom and their country also have the freedom to go, to get out of this country they find so detestable. None of them do though. So, that must mean it isn’t all that bad. If they really want to make a difference, go to countries where people are living in repressive, totalitarian governments and protest there. Now that would take some courage! It will be very short lived, as a government that has complete and total control over its people wastes no time in bringing behavior like that to a sudden end. People in countries like that know to do anything their government doesn’t approve, will mean spending their life in a prison system designed for extreme torture. They could also count on their families being shunned, imprisoned or killed. Now that is a good reason to protest, if you have the courage and can get enough people to join you. If enough people join you in your protest, it will just be a much bigger mass grave. If that is what you prefer to living in a country with so many freedoms and possibilities, by all means, go. After all, I really would like to see you happy.

Thank you and my sincerest appreciation for those who have served their country and for all who love our country.

Sometimes there is an issue not of legal or illegal, but of what is right or wrong.
