Exactly right. Nehemiah knew there were enemies that needed to see he and his people were armed and prepared to fight, if necessary. As a believer in Christ I struggled as to whether I should have a CCL but I found my answer in the Bible. The example of Nehemiah is one of them that helped me. Another is that when David went out to meet Goliath he did not go empty handed. He went with the weapon with which he was most familiar and skilled. The Bible, in Romans 12:18 says that "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." The obvious connotation there is that it simply is not possible to live peaceably with some men because they don't desire it. Another thing that helped me through my hesitation to obtain a CCL was the simple thought that we would not ask a Christian policeman or a Christian military soldier to be on the front lines with no weapon. My prayer is that I am never in a position to have to make a decision to use deadly force against another individual. However, if I am ever in that position I want to have the capability to make a decision and that requires possession of a firearm. Taking another man's life deals with the attitude of the heart not the physical act itself. As a believer in Christ I have a clear conscience about my CCL and packing.
