I continue to ask myself, why can't Social Security be managed like a pension fund with a high proportion of it's assets in high qualty, long term stocks. The $2.5T in existing government bonds if invested in stocks would go a long way towards solving the problem without privatizing the plan which will lead to it's elimination. This question and elimination of the welfare features of the program should be addressed before discussing privatization.
