Two people have been arrested on suspicion of planning holiday terror attacks in Belgium, the federal prosecutor's office said Tuesday.

The prosecutor's office said an investigation had brought to light the threat of serious attacks targeting symbolic locations in Brussels during end-of-year celebrations.

The arrests came after a series of raids on Sunday and Monday in the Brussels, Liege and Brabant regions, according to the prosecutor. Searches turned up military-style training uniforms and ISIS propaganda material but no weapons or explosives, the prosecutor's office added in a statement.

The prosecutor's office said six people were brought in for questioning and all but two were released.

Those two remaining individuals were placed under arrest — one for allegedly leading and recruiting for a terror group and the other for allegedly participating in a terror group's activities with the aim of committing terror offenses, according to the statement.

It did not name the suspects or provide further details, saying only that the investigation was not tied to the Nov. 13 terror attacks in Paris.

Belgian authorities have been heavily involved in the investigation into those attacks as several people tied to the siege had links to the county.

The capital of Brussels was put on lockdown for days following the Paris attacks.
