School shootings in Canada are rare, compared to the United States - but they have happened.

In April 1999, eight days after the Columbine massacre, Canada had its first school shooting in 20 years when Todd Cameron Smith, 14, killed two at W.R. Myers school in Taber, Alberta.

In September 2006, Kimveer Gill opened fire on a school in Montreal, killing one and injuring 20.
