Will $4-a-Gallon Gas Do the Trick?
I keep hearing people insist that Obama will win re-election in a cake walk. Frankly, I don't believe it. According to the polls in September, 2008, he would have lost to John McCain, who ran as lousy a presidential campaign as Bob Dole and Michael Dukakis, if the economy hadn't suddenly tanked. So what has Obama done since then that would give him an edge in 2012? ObamaCare? Cash for Clunkers? Fast and Furious? Solyndra? A $16 trillion dollar deficit? Nixing the Keystone pipeline that would have brought us thousands of jobs and oil from a friendly source? Turning the likes of Van Jones, Valerie Jarrett, Jacob Lew and Kathleen Sebilius, into czars? Kowtowing to the Saudis, George Soros and the unions?
He demands civility from conservatives and then keeps his yap shut when the likes of Maxine Waters, Henry Waxman, Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, vilify and demonize not only political opponents like John Boehner and Eric Cantor, but Republicans in general and Tea Party patriots specifically.
It has been apparent for months that Obama, who ran as a man who would unite all of us, intends to drop the camouflage this time around and run a presidential campaign that divides Americans by race, religion and income. The question that comes to mind is why, with a Republican House and what is expected to be a Republican Senate, Obama even seeks a second term. Can it be that he and Michelle are so enamored of the presidential perks of free travel, paid vacations to exotic locales, galas with celebrities at the White House and never having to stand in line to shoot a round of golf, that nothing else counts?
There is also the matter of being in the spotlight. Some people just can't get enough of it. Although most of us would weary of being the focus of so much attention, being constantly eyeballed by the media, the public and the Secret Service, there are certain strange creatures who crave it the way normal human beings crave oxygen.
If the cost of gasoline is what it takes for voters to wake up and smell the fire and brimstone emanating from the Oval Office, I can only hope that the price keeps rising through Election Day.
Speaking of those in the public eye, what is it that makes so many people lose all sense of perspective when it comes to the death of a celebrity? Over the past 15 years, we've seen millions of seemingly normal people take leave of their senses simply because Lady Di, Michael Jackson and now Whitney Houston, have died. Why is it that we make so much of the passing of a one-time English royal; an entertainer who managed to give plastic surgery almost as bad a name as pedophilia; and a singer who destroyed her life with alcohol and cocaine? What is it in our collective DNA that inflates their passing to such an enormous degree?
Why, when we barely notice the death of medical researchers who cure our most dreaded diseases; of writers and composers whose creativity revives our culture; of military warriors who sacrifice their lives to ensure our liberty; do we carry on like those poor souls in North Korea who are severely disciplined if their public grieving doesn't quite hit the mark?
For that matter, why does Governor Chris Christie order the lowering of flags throughout New Jersey just because Whitney Houston happened to have been born in Newark? I mean, if you lower it for a drug addict, how will you not lower it when people such as Buzz Aldrin, Andrew Napolitano, Shaquille O'Neal, John Travolta, Sam Alito, Bill Parcells, Bruce Springsteen, Eva Marie Saint, Michael Douglas, Al Leiter, Jerry Lewis, Meryl Streep, Joe Thiesmann, Frankie Valli, Joe Pantoliano, Bebe Neuwirth, Bret Baier, Jason Alexander, Joe Pesci and Antonin Scalia, eventually cast off their mortal coil? And what about Nathan Lane, Martha MacCallum and even Pia Zadora?
And if Whitney Houston deserves such recognition, what about Barney Frank? I mean, you and I might regard him as a national embarrassment, but when he retires at the end of his current term, in order, I assume, to devote more time to perfecting his Elmer Fudd impression, he will have spent 32 long years in Congress.
Believe me, I know how utterly preposterous honoring Rep. Frank sounds to most people.
Still, if Governor Christie isn't going to have any standards for such state tributes beyond the ability to carry a tune while stoned out of one's gourd, he might consider just leaving those flags permanently at half-mast.

The obvious election trick vis-à-vis gasoline prices is to just ease a dribble out of the SPR. It's been done before, and it's the best way to kick the [gas] can down the road for a man as committed to energy pipe dreams as Obama.Heck, even promising to let some of the SPR into the market has lowered oil prices in the past. It's foolish, shortsighted, and an obvious political ploy, but it's worked. I'm willing to bet a shiny nickel that Obama's got his hand poised over the release valve right now, waiting for election season to start.

Bebe Neuwirth? Now, there's an obscure reference... I'm sure that the only reason I remember "Lilith Sternin" is because I happened to meet her father a couple of times. In any case, I agree that logic would dictate that the Obama administration will go down in flames. However, I'm not confident that logic will prevail...

Sam K: For Obama, the election season of 2008 never ended. He already has campaign ads running in swing states.Jeremy: Bebe Neuwirth is a terrific actress/entertainer. I am confident that Obama will lose the election. I only wish that he would then have to leave the Oval Office on Nov. 7th. I hate the idea of his being able to stick around for another two and a half months after that. That man can cause a lot of mischief even in a lame duck session, as we've seen in the past.Burt

Burt, I agree whole-heartedly on booting a defeated president out of the White House the next day. That's how it's done in England--if a Prime Minister is up for re-election, he has his bags packed on election day in case he loses and has to vacate the next day.Whitney Houston should be the poster child for showing kids that no matter how much talent, looks, fame or money you have (and Whitney had all four in spades early in her life), you can destroy all of it with drug addiction. She was so pathetic. I, for one, was surprised she lived as long as she did.

Richard Nixon initiated the strategic oil reserves. He and Ford filled them. Carter the coward and the inept, in his stumbling and bumbling Presidency, wrecking the country and the world managed to screw our economy along with everything else, and decided to tap the reserves. Carter never put any oil back in the reserves.Reagan came along and refilled the reserves. Clinton tapped the reserves, but did not put any back in.W. Bush came along and refilled the reserves after struggling with Nancy Palosi the insane liberal dolt. Now Barac has done his best to wreck the country and what a success he has been as a wrecking ball, smashing into the good ediface America. I suspect the usual liberal democrat strategy of essentially stealing from republicans stashed oil in case of an emergency will once again be employed. Getting the price of gas to drop shortly before election day just might help Obama steal another election. His first election was stolen from the republicans via Frank and his policy to destroy Americas economy through Fannie and Freddie. Why isn`t Frank in prison?Liberalism is immaturity. Immaturity denies reality and substitues illusion. We cannot underestimate the ability of the immature avoid reality in favor of their illusion. We must remain vigilant. One and done. Nobama 2012, vote republican. Thank you.

Re;gas,"I can only hope the price keeps rising through election day? C'mon Burt---you support that but not a revolt? Your quote "We'll be a banana republic". This ain't nothing but economics 101, you cut the supply and the price goes up. Then again if people say that's enough, and slow down thier habits of consumption, in revolt, the price will drop. Then again get rid of the regulations, go back to the lawfull gold standard, gas will drop to $2.00 a gallon, if they quit de-valuing the dollar. It's all about politics, and no canidate is willing to commit political suicide. That's why McCain lost. Because he did not want to play the game the way the Dems do. He wanted to run a 'clean' campaign against the dirtiest people in the world, "Liberal Democrats". The Republican way is to "Go along to get along", while the Dems is "Win at all cost's". To quote a Nazi war criminal "If you people will not fight for your survival, you have no right to exist". A lot of truth in that. No accusation intended.

Obama will win for none of the reasons you stated, Burt. He will win because 1) he has the strongest propaganda machine: a machine called the liberal press, and around 45 million people depending on him to send them more money...the ones on the dole. Where is the spokesperson for the Republicans? Boehner? McConnell? Reince Priebus? All laughable, which brings me to 2) Obama is being successful in dividing the so-called "classes." Remember, Burt, as you have told us repeatedly, we conservatives are in the minority. I have no doubt that most of the good patriots here will vote to depose the socialist, but again, we're in the minority. So yes, Burt and Mac, the wager is still on. The majority of Americans (liberals) consider themselves middle class and will follow Obama's lead by silently joining the fight against the rich. It's all pretty obvious to me.

I too think that a lame duck session will see an extravaganza of excessive parties, vacations, golf outings galore, and more debt through lavishness than all the former presidents combined. The Obama's next Hawaian Vacation over the Christmas Holidays, could be followed by an all expense paid trip for a lifetime vacation to Gitmo in January. I am confident liberals will be flying their Obamination Ant-American flags (Chairman Obamao's portrait replacing the field of stars) at Half Staff this November 7th.

Since we are all hoping, let's hope the gas prices go down while BHO does the same. K.O.B.O. in 2012!!

This Saturday just passed we drove down to Simi Valley and visited the Reagan Library and Museum. What an uplifting experience. Sadly there does not appear to be another Reagan on the horizon. President Reagan was, without doubt, the greatest president of the 20th century and one of the three greatest presidents in America`s history. He believed in the goodness and greatness of this blessed country and understood that it was great not because of government, but because of it`s people.Richard RyanLamar,Missouri

Great article, but I really liked This little gem from PDK:"Liberalism is immaturity. Immaturity denies reality and substitutes illusion."Not sure if he is the author, but it describes Liberalisms succinctly.

Is anyone wondering if, when Obama loses, he refuses to leave the White House? I'm imagining that they're going to have to call the US Marshal's service to pack their bags and evict them!

mac: No way would I bet that Michelle cuts down on her vacations, just as I would never bet that Obama cuts down on his speeches.Honest Abe: "K.O.B.O." is very good. Get those bumperstickers printed up and get rich.Tex: The Left always has the unflagging support of the media, but in case you didn't notice, Democrats have lost most of the elections ever since Obama was elected. In spite of nonstop campaigning by Obama, they even lost Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. I'm feeling pretty confident that mac and I will be winning our bet this November.Burt

K.O.B.O. is OUTSTANDING! You could Use a boxing glove for the first O and a cracked Obamao symbol for the second. Of course I'm just going to get some press on letters, and scribe: Commit Treason, Vote Democrat on my auto back window. Another Option I thought about was Destroy America: Vote Democrat. Maybe I'll use both.

The price of gasoline in Hawaii has been over $4 per gallon for a long time, but the majority of the people happily vote for Democrats unfailingly.I've written this before: Jesus Christ couldn't beat Barack Obama, for Americans have become like the dumb citizens of the Roman Empire who supported the corrupt Senate and the Germans who backed the NAZIs.
