I agree that Allen West would make a fine Vice President (let's face it, Biden set the bar pretty low) but I'm not so sure he would be a fine VP candidate. Not that he wouldn't cream the gaffe-prone Biden in the debates (suggested opener: "So Mr. Biden, do I seem clean and well-spoken?") But while we conservatives know West's quality, I fear he is not well-known to the rest of the nation, and would appear to be another look-at-this-daring-choice "gimmick" pick, as Sarah Palin was seen to be in 2008. West is certainly even more qualified than was she, but while Palin did well nevertheless, there were always well-founded suspicions of whether McCain actually thought she was the best-qualified person for the job, or just trying to punch a certain ticket. This led to unfair levels of scrutiny (and outright fabrications of incompetence) in the media. She became a distraction from McCain's lackluster candidacy, and large swaths of people cited her as a major reason to have voted both for or against the Republicans; McCain became secondary.Yes, it would be nice to have a "rock star" on the ticket with Romney, but only if the light from that star shines on the head of the ticket.
