The Right Opinion
The Martians Have Landed!
I'm sure I'm not the only person who periodically finds himself wondering if it's all just a dream or if he's found himself starring in one of the more bizarre episodes of "The Twilight Zone."
For instance, Bret Baier reported that Joe Biden recently had the following to say about Republicans: "Those guys don't have a sense of the average folks out there. They don't know what it means to be middle class."
At the time, he was addressing a group of average folks who were attending a $10,000-a-couple Obama fund raiser at the Georgetown mansion of Senator John and Teresa Heinz Kerry. They dined on organic steaks and white truffle mashed potatoes, purchased, no doubt, with federal food stamps.
I am willing to bet that these are the only regular folks in America who aren't concerned about the price of gas. It's funny how that works, though. When George Bush was in the White House, Democrats and the media insisted that he had more to do with soaring costs at the gas pump than OPEC, Exxon and Wall Street speculators, put together. It's only now, with Obama perched in the Oval Office, that we're hearing that the president has less influence on the price of gas than I do.
And for those of us who love nothing better than to see federal bureaucrats squirm, there was Secretary of Energy Chu telling a congressional committee that the last thing he wanted was soaring energy costs just a few days after saying that's exactly what he wanted. This is the same Stephen Chu who, in 2008, insisted that he wanted Americans to pay the same $10-a-gallon Europeans pay because it would hasten the day when wind and solar energy would power America.
Obama sprang to Secretary Chu's defense by pointing out that he had made that remark before he joined the Cabinet. But of course Obama had admitted in 2008, before he had a Cabinet Mr. Chu could join, that his energy policy would inevitably send gas prices skyrocketing. The telling points are, one, that Obama has waged constant warfare against the coal and oil industries, even though he now likes to boast that we are drilling for more oil than ever, even though it's thanks to Bush's policies and in spite of Obama's; and, two, even though Mr. Chu longed for $10-a-gallon gas before he joined the administration, it's because he voiced such lunacies that he was invited aboard.
Speaking of Obama's green energy program, you may have heard that Chevrolet has stopped production of the $40,000 Volt. Apparently, people weren't buying it, but whether it was the price tag or the fact that the batteries had a nasty habit of igniting, I suppose we'll never really know. I did think they could at least have tried a last ditch hard sell approach. "Buy the Volt! It's Explosive!"
On the subject of advertising, I laugh each time I hear the promos for "Fox and Friends." In case you've missed it, a voice asks, "Why waste your time anywhere else?" In my head, at least, that's only the start of a sentence that logically concludes, "When you can waste it with 'Fox and Friends'."
Although we are all justifiably suspicious of the left-wing claptrap professors are spouting to their young charges, once in a while a little good news seeps out. Not too long ago, Jack Chambless, a professor of economics at Florida's Valencia College, asked a class of sophomores what they felt they were entitled to expect from the federal government. The list included free tuition, jobs, money for a house and a financially secure retirement.
Prof. Chambless then proceeded to ask a few of his students to place their wallets on their desks. When they did so, Chambless snatched them up and pulled out the cash. He explained that it was his dream to have a retirement cabin in the woods, and this money would help pay for it.
Some object lessons are more graphic than others. I'm sure the victims squealed like pigs and I assume he gave them back their money, but if that demonstration didn't drive home the lesson of individual responsibility, I'd have flunked the entire class.
Finally, I would normally take comfort from a poll that reported that Obama's approval numbers among women fell in one month from 53% to 41%. What it tells me, however, is that 12% of women must live in a cave. Where else could they have been? How is it that in spite of over three years of ObamaCare; a trillion dollar Stimulus; Cash for Clunkers; kowtowing to our enemies; insulting our allies; pussyfooting with Iran; banning the Keystone pipeline; increasing our national debt by six trillion dollars; and waging class, race and religious, warfare, 53% of American women thought he was doing a bang-up job until it was suddenly costing them $4-a-gallon to fill their SUV gas tanks?
Mothers, fathers and grandparents, listen up. Inasmuch as most of Obama's female groupies tend to be of the unmarried variety, it's time you started talking to your daughters, nieces and granddaughters, about something other than their grades and if they're coming home for the holidays. The fact is, Obama won in 2008 because unmarried female voters went for him in huge numbers, and if we're not careful, it could easily happen again.
We conservatives have seen the enemy and, Pogo to the contrary, it is them!

People, Burt is right. We must get off our duffs and educate the younger generation. They are ignorant and vote accordingly. I don't mean they're stupid, I mean they don't know any better & it's up to us to teach them the difference. Unless you're okay with them actually believing that verbal vomit Obama spews?? They don't realize he's lying - the president wouldn't do that!Example: We live in west Texas where the oilfield is doing really good right now. A few months ago my 30-plus-year-old stepson actually said to me that he thought Obama was doing okay because the oilfield is okay. He isn't aware of what's happening to the rest of the country! After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I attempted to explain other issues to him. Let's pray I got through. My point is this: how many more of our kids & grandkids out there have the same attitude? We are all guilty of sidestepping politics in order to avoid family feuds, we let our kids leave not knowing how serious things really are. We have to fix this before it's too late.

Deborah: My confidence is not eroding. In fact, I grow more confident every day that Obama will lose the election.Son of Liberty: I've already written an article which, in part, deals with Obama's reference to the military fighting on his behalf. It may not run for a while because even though the Patriot Post runs three of my articles every week, I sometimes write more than three and, so, they tend to back up.Dave: I get it. They are all fictional creatures. But as I've written before, I don't really expect elected officials to ever want less staff and less influence than their predecessors. That would fly in the face of human nature. On the other hand, Republicans tend to understand that the supply of money is not infinite and, at some point, the piper must be paid.jksisco: Being forced to come out in favor of same-sex marriages was not part of Obama's master re-election campaign. As we all knew from the git-go, he favored it, but he was going to wait for after the election, when, as he told Medvedev, he'd have greater flexibility. But once Joe Biden opened his big yap, Obama was stuck. All I know is if I were Biden, the first thing I would do is hire a food taster.Although my gratitude to my readers who are now in or were ever in the military is boundless, I do believe that we have a very different military today than the one we older folks grew up with. I believe the change began under Bill Clinton and has only grown worse under Obama. We now have a military that is so politically correct that the officers were afraid they'd destroy their careers if they tossed Major Hasan's butt in the stockade or the psycho ward before he had the chance to murder 14 Americans at Fort Hood.Burt

Obama should have more influence with oil prices as it was he who bowed before his King Abdullah in that now infamous photo. Maybe the Bamster didn't bend over far enough? How is it that he can fool all those women? I'd sure like the explanation on that one.

Officers' oath:"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

Burt, I disagree about Biden needing a food taster. Don't you think the whole thing was orchestrated for Obozo to "come out" yesterday, as today he is in hollyweird fundraising? It's always about the money.

Thanks to those who provided the oaths of office for military recruits and officers. I note that the oath says: "...I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."Since the Homeland Security Department has basically termed "white Christian males" as possible terror suspects, and the Narcissist in Chief has talked about bitter gun-clinging religious people, could those groups be considered domestic enemies, and if so, would the military then take action? Nothing would surprise me.I also find it interesting that Obama's new favor for same-sex marriage defies most Christian belief and certainly that of the Bible. So he's a Christian, huh? Yeah, right. In his pipe dreams, he is.

Burt, thank you for correctly counting the number of dead at Fort Hood as fourteen. This includes the one unborn child of a female victim, a real person that the media almost always fails to count.

KathyDon't worry...we are succeeding in getting the message out! I started with my sons at a very young age: want it, work for it; don't like it, change it; no one owes you a thing; I will be your guide, I will not be your bank; school teaches you facts; I will teach you about life; school only makes you smart enough to listen and learn from me and your Dad. (and grandparents/elders)Last but not least: Above all, WE most often know what is right; if you disagree you had better be willing to do intellectual battle to support your point in a no-holds-barred fashion. Of course, we added, this is a family; it is not a democracy!Even so, we were not strict parents. We were involved and knew that our children would learn best by examples we set. I'm happy to say that my 27 year old is a conservative with a strong libertarian bent. A capitalist as well. He never needed my advice when it came to voting. His 22 year old brother is conservative with a tad too much "tolerance" due to his great big heart. We always make sure he knows how to vote...not just for candidates but every issue as well. He's smart enough to know that until he does, WE know best. Neither has disappointed us! What's really great is they greatly influence their friends simply because they know more and are looked upon favorably by adults and "peers". Yep, we have been doing our own indoctrination from before they could read. Screw Head Start, public ed and kooky colleges---we had first stab and made the most of it. After all, it was our first JOB as parents!

It hurts Burt when you write negatively about the military. However, when you qualify your opinion by era, I must sadly agree. It’s understandable that the civilian management of the Armed Forces chosen by the president will echo his policies, but the Hassan case is just one of too many instances where senior officers have let PC overrule good leadership. The time will come when we will regret not having any modern day Bull Halsey’s, Chesty Puller’s, Pappy Boyington’s.

This is not a game-changer. He does not gain any voters that he didn´t already have. Are there any homosexuals or other weirdos that were planning to vote for Romney?

Rob: No, I don't believe Biden was following orders. Hollywood was going to cough up millions for Obama. He wanted to hold off until after the election when it wouldn't cost him votes in purple states.W.T.: I get no pleasure for writing negatively about the military, but honesty dictates that I must point out when the emperor is naked, even if it's a uniform about which he's garnering undeserved compliments. DaneChile: It is a game changer in that, thanks to Biden, Obama was forced to declare himself seven or eight months ahead of schedule. Coming out in favor of homosexual marriages could definitely hurt him in purple states. Even now we have Democrats trying to force the DNC to move the convention out of North Carolina.Burt

Hey Burt and Sane USA residents,Earth to Democrat presidents from the '70s to now: stop talking to your daughters about domestic or foreign policy -- they weren't elected to office! And stop enrolling your daughters in D.C.'s Sidwell Friends School, because I'm starting to see a pattern there! This is a tried and true tactic to con the public that Democrats from Carter (Amy briefed him on nuclear proliferation) yet the media always noted he was some kind of nuclear scientist; to Clinton (Chelsea was so upset about the tax cuts for the rich, that she was squawking about it to Hillary while on her cell phone downtown Manhattan the morning of 9/11/01, or according to Bill, she was squawking to him about the tax cuts on her cell while she was several blocks uptown that morning, or according to her, she was at home in her Manhattan apartment watching the commotion on TV and out her window while she was squawking to one of them about the cuts being more concerning to her than her own country getting attacked, with her own home in the thick of it). Now we have His Wishy-Washy-ness, who says his daughters (I, too, always pegged them for Jr. Einsteins) made such winning arguments for "gay marriage" that he just had to shout out his new convictions months before he was really going to do so (after the pesky election), and hadn't fooled anyone with his true stance all along. At least not those of us who pay attention to what he says compared to what he does, where he goes, who he sees, who he shakes down for money, and then proclaims publicly. Mitt Romney has sons, people.
