Ms. Noonan's articles are generally the most whitewashed perspective on the world inside the Beltway that I ever read. It's the writing of a woman perhaps too long exposed to the characters of politics. She knows them and the little idiosyncrasies that humanize them, which outside viewers rarely see. And because they're so obviously human, their actions have noble motives, and so they must be good people. As a result, their policies can never be bad, dangerous, destructive, unconstitutional, or just plain wrong, they can only be 'ineffective.'

It's an honest criticism that doesn't make you feel as if the country is circling the drain. It can be refreshing, but it muddies the waters, makes the big picture and the true nature of the consequences brought by our leaders' actions harder to see.
