The Right Opinion
Warning: Liberals on the Loose!
I, for one, was extremely upset about the storming of the American embassy in Cairo, Egypt. Perhaps I should be more specific. It wasn't the storming itself that angered me. We have all come to expect that sort of thing from the non-Israeli inhabitants of the Middle East. What pissed me off was that in the aftermath, the U.S. apologized. Apparently it is now our official policy to speak softly and carry no stick at all.
I also fear that our response may act as precedence in other areas. For instance, it may now be incumbent on rape victims to apologize to their attackers.
At the Charlotte convention, Sandra Fluke -- the so-called Georgetown University law student who never seems to go to class or take tests, sort of like the Left's favorite ministers, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who never seem to give sermons or even attend church -- claimed that Mitt Romney and the Republicans "want to make us endure invasive ultrasound." I found it interesting that a woman, whom I suspect doesn't really have to concern herself with the availability of birth control pills, regards an ultrasound procedure as invasive, but not an abortion.
But I'm sure that if anyone tried to pin Ms. Fluke down as to what it is about ultrasound that makes it invasive, she would become instantly evasive.
I don't know what to make of the polls that suggest that Obama is running neck-and-neck or even slightly ahead of Mitt Romney. Although I have my suspicions, I will continue to predict a Romney victory in November. As I have said all along, if you didn't vote for Obama in 2008, he certainly hasn't given you any good reason to vote for him this time. On the other hand, if you were dumb enough to fall for "Hope & Change" back then, you've now had four long years in which to wake up and face the truth about this snake oil salesman.
I'm not saying that millions of people won't vote for Obama and Biden. After all, in spite of the millions of unemployed and underemployed, in spite of the $16 trillion national debt and the annual one trillion dollar deficit, there are about 15 million more Americans now receiving bribes in the form of food stamps.
Besides that, Americans, in huge numbers, have become accustomed to voting for American Idol competitors. As a result, they have taken to voting for the president on the same juvenile basis, asking themselves not to judge a man on his experience, decency and temperament, but merely on whether he's cool and groovy in front of the TV camera.
When I look at millions of my countrymen today, I'm reminded that grass smells best when it's freshly cut; leaves look their best when they're dying and smell their best when they're burning. Too bad none of that will be able to be said for America as it reaches the end of its rope if Obama is re-elected. If he remains in the Oval Office, I'm afraid that the pervasive stench of America would be that of an open sewer.
As bad as some of our presidents have been, one never had reason to think he wasn't proud to be an American and the leader of the free world. Even when Obama pays verbal respect to America's military and the nation's exceptionalism, one can't help feeling an emotional disconnect. He sounds so much more believable when he's lauding some labor union boss or promising stuff from his goody bag to college students and welfare recipients.
Never, not even when FDR spent over 12 years in the White House, has a president seemed so much like the sort of cult figure we're used to seeing in places like Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Cuba, China and Iraq. Given another four years, I would assume we'd start seeing Obama statues popping up in public places.
This brings us to Obama's hometown where the teachers are striking in spite of the fact that they are already being paid $76,000-a-year, not counting pensions, in a city where the average taxpayer only makes $47,000. What makes it even more farcical is that the Teachers Union has already been offered a new contract that calls for a 16% increase over the next four years. In case you are a product of the Chicago public school system, the 16% bump would raise the annual salary to $88,160.
It seems that the teachers find the pay hike acceptable. What they resent is that school principals would actually have the authority to fire the incompetents. But that has been an overriding issue for most unions over the past few decades. Teachers always insist that every work stoppage is for the kids, but inevitably it's either for their wallets or, as in this case, to protect the deadheads who nevertheless can be relied on to pay their union dues.
Karen Lewis, the 350-pound President of the Chicago Teachers Union, while addressing the North West Teaching for Social Justice Conference in Seattle last year, said, "I am the only black woman in the class of 1974 from Dartmouth College. Woo! People are impressed. Let me tell you, I spent those years smoking lots of weed, self-medicating."
When their laughter died down, Ms. Lewis added: "Sounds like you all did, too."
No word whether Barack Obama was in the audience or was merely being channeled by President Lewis.
Perhaps the most telling fact of all in the Chicago strike is that Chicago school children are among the worst-educated in the country. Perhaps part of the reason is that they have the shortest school day, running only five-and-a-half hours long, thanks to previous teacher contracts.
So, if you're one of those people who continue to believe that school teachers are underpaid and overworked, I won't try to convince you how silly you are and how unfair it is that the people who pay their salaries make, on average, roughly half as much as they do. I will merely point out that, however you slice it, $76,000-a-year is a hell of a lot of money to pay a babysitter.

When it comes to teachers and people with regular jobs, at least most of them. Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach. And those that can't teach, become administrators. For those that aren't qualified to be administrators (we are reaching the bottom of the barrel here) become liberal arts professors. They are not qualified to do any thing else.

At least two decades ago, our benevolent leaders decided it was too dangerous to have obstreperous chillun loitering around school property presenting a clear hazard for law-abiding citizens. The solution was to get them off school property posthaste. Hence, no lunch hour, at least not for teachers. Class ended at 2:45. Now the teachers get 45 minutes to eat lunch, but since they are not on salary, they are not paid for it. There is no additional instruction time in the lengthened school day. Evidently the new thinking is that the children are now safer on government property than not.

Most Unions are pure Socialism. The over-achievers are ground down to mediocrity, after a few years. The flunkies and loafers, are protected by a myriad of union attorneys and work rules. Non-union counterparts receive 1/2 the amount of salaries, according to Nicole Galinas-N.Y.Post writer. Republican Governors have won victories over big gov. unions; Wisconsin, for example. Scott Walker is one of my heroes. Coll. Bargaining should be limited to salaries---ONLY.

As a Human Resource Mgr in a conference room with 30 hourly employees discussing the "fairness" of a merit pay system vs. the traditional "general increase" system, I wanted to test the reaction to my points. My question was, "You all work together everyday ... raise your hand if you believe you are in the top 50% of this group in terms of your overall job performance?" Without hesitation, 27 hands shot into the air. Then they looked at each other and laughed upon seeing what human nature had done to their self-evaluations.

Burt, You hit the nail on the head about how some people vote. To them Obama is a rock star. His being totally incompetent doesn't seem to matter to them. They could care less if he leads the counry down the road to ruin as long as he looks and sounds cool. They don't vote on the issues that are important because most of them haven't a clue what is happening. He can keep lying and tearing this counrry apart and it makes no difference to them at all. Somehow in their minds he can do no wrong. They are so quick to call Republicans stupid but when it comes to stupidity you can't beat the Demorats and their kool-aid drinking followers.

Burt;
A quick comment on the food stamps. I work P/T in a grocery store. I see folks coming in and using EBT cards on a daily basis. I have noticed that lately they seem to fall into one of two categories. On the one side, you have what I refer to as the "happy spenders", who have no qualms about using what they receive compliments of the taxpayer to purchase every sort of "junk food" item imaginable, as opposed to using it for nutritional foods as so firmly suggested by the head food nanny Michell-O. On the other side are the families that come in and use their cards wisely, yet are filled with a sense of shame that it had come to this point. I see the look in their eyes. In particular some of the senior citizens that had been backed into a corner and had nowhere else to go.
Yes here there are many food pantries from local charitable groups, mostly churches. Yet they are likewise not being able to do as much as the donations are drying up faster than the needs can be met.
So, we have these two groups, the former still believing in the hope and change mantra, (I think they hope for a change in the increase of more food stamps) and the latter group feeling that there is nothing but hopelessness and chains.
While I do not personally know members of the latter group, I know that many of them at one time were productive and proud members of society. As mentioned above you can see it in their eyes, that many are slowly giving up hope.
If Romney wins, perhaps there will be a small return of the spark of life in their eyes, as opposed to the resigned look of despondency I now witness daily.

Doctor, Have you noticed how many more people are obese and are using the EBT cards to buy junk foods? I look at their carts in the grocery store and they buy all kinds of 'stuff' that I can't afford. Wonder what the correlation is between the increasing useage of foodstamps and the high rate of obesity.

As far as I know we are the only nation whose poor are vastly overweight. I think part of it comes from that fact that many nations, in particular 3rd world ones, do not have EBT programs. Many of those poor scramble for little food they can find or beg and it's usually never enough to meet the needs of the body.

Burt;
When I lived in the Peoples Republic of NY, (NYC to be exact) one of the USPS stations I worked in was located in the borough of Queens NY. Within spitting distance of each other were several government agencies for the "downtrodden victims" of society. You mentioned in your reply the parasites. I can definitely relate to that comment. During my 15 years stay at that station I would year in and year out see the same people hanging out in various small cafe type shops eating, shopping in stores buying the best name brand clothes, wearing the bling-bling, etc.
I recall one time over hearing a conversation wherein one person was complaining they didn't get enough to make ends meet, on a CELL phone! On another occasion I watched as some guy came out the HRA building got into his very nice new car and drove away. Many of the women were usually dragging around about 3-4 kids, all dressed in the latest fashion of course, none of them looking like they've ever had to do without, or missed a meal.
Certainly, a program designed to help those in need should be able to force the able-bodied to do SOME work. Just keeping the streets cleaned, working in soup kitchens, something, anything to at least make them earn the ride.
Additionally, why not program the EBT cards to restrict certain items from purchase. No junk foods period. Also program the cards (as I believe they also receive a certain amount of cash value on them) to be used only in places such as Wally Word, K-Mart, etc, no designer type clothes, or better yet, to be used only in second hand stores. There has to be a way to get this done.

EdP: No, I simply cut to the chase. I started with $76,000 and added 16%, which translated to $12,160. By the end of the contract, these layabouts would be getting--not earning--$88,160.

My breath was taken away by the events of the past week and the outrageous lies this administration is still telling, and the lapdog media steadlily repeats. Prefacing every MSM/LSM report I've heard on TV/radio from those outlets, including the public broadcast stations, is the phrase, "...demonstrations/attacks...caused or triggered by an anti-Muslim video". And then, this administration takes the producer of that dopey video into custody "voluntarily" for questioning. And nowhere does the POTUS nor his SecState ever say that producer has the inalienable right to make his dopey film, because he's an American. They do, however, spend $70,000 of U.S. taxpayers' hard-earned money (the producers/middle and working class) to apologize on Pakistani TV for this grave "insult" by an American. So, they have now elevated Islam to a "Preferred Religion" status by the U.S. Government, expressly forbidden of the government by the U.S. Constitution. Can't wait for Nov. 6!!!!!
