The Right Opinion
Why Mitt Romney Will Win
President Obama was on the ropes in the polls after the first presidential debate. After the second presidential debate, he hit the mat in the polls. And after the third presidential debate, he looks to be down for the count.
The question, of course, is why.
Looking at the debates alone doesn't tell the full story. Romney surely won the first debate -- in fact, he cleaned President Obama's clock -- but in the second debate, he fought President Obama to a draw. And in the third and final debate, which centered on foreign policy, Romney pulled his punches.
So just what happened to change this race from an Obama blowout in late September to a substantial Romney lead in late October?
The American public got serious. And President Obama got unserious.
In any presidential race, the candidate who is perceived as steadier will generally win. Jimmy Carter blew the perception that he was a steady hand with his "malaise" speech and his wild attacks on opponent Ronald Reagan. Bill Clinton, despite his personal foibles, made Americans feel steadier than the flailing Bob Dole. George W. Bush looked like a steadier and more trustworthy leader than the king of flip-floppers, John Kerry. And in 2008, Barack Obama seemed to be more even-keel than the wildly gyrating John McCain.
In today's race, there is one candidate who seems steady, whose presence calms voters. And there is another candidate who seems petty and vindictive, who wanders from odd slogan to odd slogan, who attacks his opponent relentlessly. The former is Mitt Romney. The latter is Barack Obama.
That's what has been on exhibit for the last month. Mitt Romney continues to press home his case on Barack Obama's failed economic plans. He continues to make his case for a larger vision of American power in the world, especially by boosting our economic competitiveness.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama minimizes issues. The candidate who promised us that he would heal the planet in 2008 now can't see beyond his teleprompter. If Mitt Romney wants to talk about cutting spending, Barack Obama wants to talk about how Big Bird will get hurt. If Mitt Romney wants to talk about our failures of security in Libya, Barack Obama wants to talk about how the deaths of Americans are "not optimal" and "bumps in the road." If Mitt Romney wants to talk about our military readiness, Barack Obama wants to talk about whether we ought to cut bayonets.
Obama is now channeling Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Blvd": "I am big. It's the campaign that got small." But in truth, Obama isn't big. He never was. He was the "Wizard of Oz," hiding behind the curtain provided to him by the media. All of his promises meant nothing. What does it mean to heal the world? What does it mean for the waters to recede? What does it mean to provide hope and change?
It means nothing. And when Obama put his big ideas into action, all the American people saw was petty infighting, gargantuan new webs of bureaucracy, and a president left blaming his predecessor for all his problems.
Obama's presidency reflected his poverty of ideas. Now his campaign does, too.
A small campaign means an unstable campaign. When you're forced to jump topic to topic, debating inconsequential ideas with gusto, your campaign seems to swing unpredictably back and forth. When you're discussing Romnesia one day and binders the next, you're losing.
A big campaign, by contrast, has big themes. Obama has no themes because he has no record and no second-term agenda. Romney has themes: economic growth through tax cuts and less burdensome regulation, a foreign policy based on a stronger military. Because he has themes, he seems steady.
And that's why he will win. None of this is going to change in the next two weeks. Obama's record will not suddenly allow him to become an ardent advocate of his own job performance. And he won't come up with any bold new plans -- he has nothing left in the tank. The ball is in Mitt Romney's court. And the American people know it.

You give me hope ~ Reconnecting on Facebook with High School Alumni the word exchange just got to personal among people who are suppose to be friends. I created a Right Only Forum to share thoughts, ideas and avoid being hijacked by Liberals! My first election was Reagan (still have my campaign shirt) and I use your writings to help guide me sometimes. My husband sounds like your friend you quoted a year ago and I can't help but think if BO won this Country doesn't section off and let the ideologicals survive! { YOUR FRIEND QUOTE " A friend of mine recently proposed a fascinating thought experiment. Why not let everyone define his or her own tax code? If someone wants lots of services, let them pay for it with higher taxes. If someone wants to live without the comforting safety net that warns them of murderous fowl cookers, let them opt out of the tax burden. The outcome of the experiment is obvious. The right would buy into this proposal immediately. The left would protest. Why? Because the right doesn't need the left to subsidize its agenda; the left needs the right to subsidize its agenda.} BAM! Let the games begin ~

It's funny you Kool-Aid drinkers are like the pot who calls the kettle black. For your generation I should explain that pot has another meaning besides marijuana and the shape of your gut.

When you're done with your fantasy, wake up to the real world and get an education so you can cast a sensible vote instead of lining up with the pot-heads and Kool-Aid sippers.

Yeah Rommney will win This election race, or Obama. But nothing will change. We just pick our favorite brand and another man is in office controlled by the powers that be ( bIg business, military industrial complex)

I guarantee you that something will change if Romney is elected. America may still be a republic in another 4 years instead of a socialist third world nation, as the Obamanation would have it.

Dear patty in Atlanta,
The powers that be love the fact that you are blindly following this election on issues controlled not by the president. They love your blind disregard for how things really work. They spent alot of capital to get you to believe that your vote counts. If you get your news from tv you views have been bought and paid for. This country has only one political party. A demo/republic setup where you vote for the brand you identify with better. Good luck in life you mindless drone. And I'm calling it, Alabama is going red so your vote is useless..

Hey Lou, your nasty, pessimistic comments and name-calling help no one. If everyone thought the same way you do, no one would vote and political office would be decided by coin flips.
Also, take a remedial geography course. Atlanta is in Georgia, not Alabama.

Beautifully said, Ben Shapiro. And now Hussein is so desperate, he has published a brochure trying to convince people he has a plan. It's a piece of paper with nothing of value in it. Hussein is small and his nowhere ideas are small, and it doesn't take a mental giant to see it.

Obummer is the great hater. He hates the military, America, the US Constitution, guns, unborn babies, the flag, God, freedom, choice ( except the choice of a woman to kill her unborn baby), white people ( it's because of a white person he isn't black), and anyone with a job. He loves queers, taxes, and onerous government regulations. Why anyone would ever vote for him is beyond my comprehension.

Look, it really comes down to two questions.
1) How satisfied is America with what has happened under Obama's watch? 2) Does the other guy look credible?
Up until the first debate the answer to the first question was yes, but the second was no. This was the Obama strategy, to make Romney unacceptable as an alternative. One 90 minute debate changed all that. Romeny burned over 100 million in Obama straw man attacks. Unfortunately for Obama there is no back up plan...which is why you see the Dems looking more and more desperate with personal attacks and zippy zingers as they search for anything to turn this around.
Obama's ceiling is 47-48%, I suspect fcor Romney it's now 51-53%, giving Romney someplace between a 3-6% win. This will likely translate into a sizable electoral victory for Romney. I would not be surprised if Penn, Michigan and Minnesotta don't end up in Romney's column, although I consider them at the margin.

My sentiments exactly.
I've been following your primaries & presidential race almost 24:7 for the entire year. I jest not! :) My interest? I have children & grand-children, other relatives and friends who are US citizens, and I'm concerned for them. I still wonder why they've chosen to make America their home when Paradise is right here Downunder. I guess it didn't help that we sent them there for their education in the 1st place!
Anyway, one thing I have observed since becoming interested in your politics is that those with apparent left-leaning preferences are more active in expressing their opinions online than their counterparts. They seem to be more active in this area, which I think is amazing.
However, I have also noticed that they can be very unforgiving and nasty in their responses to others who have an opposing opinion. They seem less tolerant. They use foul and threatening language more. (Not on this site, though.) That's not to say that the right-leaning contributors are squeaky clean. I think they can be nasty too, but they clearly are 'fewer and far between.'
My opinion re upcoming election? I hope, for the sake of my family, that Gov Romney wins the presidency.
My children have studied and worked hard. When they first came to the USA, your economy was as good as any economy could be. It did not help OUR financial cause as our NZ$ at the time was worth just US$0.40c. You work out the math! but we worked the same number of hours in our country as you for a similar take-home pay, yet our return was less than a half the value of our $ when our kids attended college there. We were actually paying over double the amount of fees that US students paid.
Fast forward to now, it is clear your economy isn't healthy. Our NZ$ presently has a fluctuating value of between US$0.80c-$0.85c. Simply put, we can buy more US$ with our NZ$ than in years past. In our neighboring Australia, their $ is now worth way more than your US$.
All the while, our children/gchildren are struggling. Fortunately, they have college degrees, good jobs, and have planted fruit trees, vegetables and invested in hens to help them be more self-sufficient and not dependent on the government. But they still struggle, compared with a few years ago. Mortgage payments are a killer, but they press on. I guess if the worst comes to the worst, they can come home, which they probably will consider if President Obama gets another term.
I know; 2 much info.

Kiwi, I suspect that you know more about the state of our economy than the average leftwing fruit cake. They are too busy trying to get something for nothing to worry about what is happening to our economy.

Awww, u flatter me.:) I don't really know much, but my friends and I are loving everything that's going on in politics there. Can't say we like it when Mitt Romney gets hammered by the media, but I guess such is life for someone who is trying to unseat the President. Nevertheless, we're hoping Romney gets to be your next president. He seems very capable, and from all accounts has all the intelligence and credentials to turn your economy around and unite the people.
