Right down the old Communist road to subjegation. Corrupt the chidren first and make them into good little Communists encouraging total compliance to the state. No expection of privacy because the government is all knowing and all seeing. I noticed the intent of the monitoring wasn't linked to the education of the children but in the amount of money the district could receive if attendance was up. The Deputy Sup even stated that if she didn't wear the ID it could affect her education. It all comes down to money and to the hell with privacy.

Seriously, why don't they just take our kids the moment they are born as we as parent's are getting less and less say about what happens to our kids - from chipping at school to free contraceptives!

It starts with the idea that, "If you have nothing to hide you have no reason to object to being watched." I have read that plenty of times even here at the Patriot Post, although it only seems to apply to things the person saying it has no interest in doing. Once a society adopts that mindset there is no clear-cut point to draw the line.
Think about that the next time you get on an airplane, especially if you ever flew before September 11, 2001 and remember how it used to be.
Keep in mind that two cities that do this - San Antonio and Houston - are both in Texas, which is staunchly Republican. Romney won Texas in a 16-point landslide. Texas has a Republican governor. Republicans hold commanding majorities in both houses of the state legislature. Of the eight current members of the Texas Supreme Court: two were elected in a heavily-Republican state and the other six were appointed by Republican Governor Rick Perry.
As the article notes, RFID has been in place in public schools in Texas since 2004. This is not a Democrat / Republican thing: not in Texas. This happens there because Republicans WANT it to happen there.
Think about THAT next time somebody tells you that Republicans care about liberty.
The founders must be turning over in their graves.

Army Officer, do you really think Republicans or conservatives in these Texas school systems are to blame? The schools are run by the teachers unions and progressives - Democrats. This RFID scandal has nothing to do with Texas voting Republican in elections. I don't think this issue was on ANY ballot in Texas.

My point is that Texas is about as "Conservative" and "Republican" as a state can be, and despite the fact that Republicans control every branch of the state government by huge margins, this has been going on in schools run by the government of Texas for eight years.
In answer to your direct question, "... do you really think Republicans or conservatives in these Texas school systems are to blame?" No, I do not: there are precious few conservatives in public education, especially in large cities like San Antonio and Houston. But those schools do not exist in a vacuum - they answer to the state government, which seems to think that acclimating children in Texas to this level of surveillance is acceptable, perhaps even laudable.
Texas Republicans could stop this if they wanted to - they have shown by their acquiescence that they simply don't want to.

What is to stop a kid from simply having another kid hold his ID when he leaves campus....or go to the library and leave the badge in there.....I taught high school for 30 years....believe me, they will find ways to thwart the system.

P.S. I am, however, glad the girl won her suit. This is too 1984 for me.

Is this young girl's family the only Christians in that school district? Were the others intimidated so much that they no longer stand up for their rights? It is the duty of all people of conscience to stand up to tyranny in all it's forms, from the least all the way up to the Tyrant-in-Chief! The reason the ACLU and the others did not stand up with her is because they do not stand up for Christians any time, any place, and they are not going to start now. They themselves are all about control! WJM in Colorado is right, it's all about control. The other sneaky form of control is the growing use of drones with cameras flying over American cities. The safety issue is the camel's nose under the tent. Follow the money trail right back to the manufacture of these systems and the lining of the pockets of government policy makers.

The ACLU sucks! The Thomas More Foundation jumped in to help the guys who were illegally detained by the Dearborn S.S. a couple of years ago.The Dearborn Gestapo is headed by Chief Haddad. The men were handing out Christian literature which is legal. The supposed "reason" the police confiscated (stole) the camera that was being used to film these activities was not given.I guess these brownshirts didn't want facts to get in the way.

I have no idea how one could check on it, but if schools can put RFID/GPS systems in student ID's, where else might RFID identifiers be hiding , now or in the future? Credit cards? Company ID cards? Drivers licenses? In your automobile key? Veterans Administration ID cards? Voter ID cards (where those exist....) Attached to heart stents or hearing aids? Inside your new Colt rifle or pistol?
Just wondering.

If George Orwell were alive today and being interviewed, I have no doubt that the first thing he would say would be, "Didn't anyone READ "1984"?!!!"

Wow, talk about 'Big Brother' trying to start our children's' generation off on their path. There is no reason that the school systems need to have tracking chips on our children. The next thing you know they'll be making it mandatory for them to be embedded into newborns. The schools and government does not need to know what they are doing away from school either. I as a parent have installed Mobile Spy on to my teen's smartphone to monitor their activities, and make sure that he's safe. But that's my right as a parent! It's not a governmental right. Our country has been on a path of self destruction, and with all of the headlines today it's becoming more and more clear!
