I Hate John Roberts

I realize there are those who say you shouldn’t hate anyone, at least not unless they rise to the evil level of Hitler, Stalin or Osama bin Laden. I beg to differ. I don’t tell people who they should or shouldn’t hate, and I don’t want them telling me. In a way, I despise Chief Justice Roberts even more than I despise Barack Obama. That’s because Obama laid his cards on the table when he was first running for the presidency. As an Illinois state legislator, he had voted to allow babies who survived abortions to be murdered. Then in 2012, he hid all his personal documents in the Obama family crypt. What’s more, he said he would destroy the coal and oil industries and send our energy costs soaring. For good measure, he said that the greatest shortcoming of the U.S. Constitution and the Civil Rights movement was that they didn’t call for the redistribution of wealth.

As a result, he has been exactly the president I expected him to be. But Roberts was supposed to be a conservative. That’s how he portrayed himself and I’m sure that’s what George W. Bush assumed he was when he placed him on the Supreme Court.

As Roberts has shown, in twice voting to keep the Affordable Care Act alive, he has betrayed those of us who were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in 2012. He is even worse than the Court’s coven of witches, Ginsburg, Kagan and Sotomayor, because they never pretended to be anything but the hand maidens of Liberalism. That is why the day that Roberts was confirmed to be the Chief Justice, September 29, 2005, will live on, like December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001, as a day of infamy.

I’m betting that even Jonathan Gruber, the economics professor known as the architect of ObamaCare, didn’t realize that when he said that it was only because American voters are so stupid that the bill was ever passed must be shocked to discover that five justices, including the chief justice, of the Supreme Court fit that description.

In civics class, they used to drum into our heads that the federal government is composed of three equal branches: the executive, the legislative and the judicial. What they never mentioned is that they are equally stupid.

It has been argued that Obama and his cohorts actually hoped the Court would rule the other way. That’s because they knew that the GOP would have felt compelled to bail out the six million Americans, mainly people residing in red states, who would have taken a financial shellacking without the subsidies. This way, the Republicans will once again have the opportunity to run against the wildly unpopular healthcare bill in 2016, the single issue that has caused the Democrats to lose 14 seats in the Senate and over 70 in the House over the past five years.

Former Senator Tom Colburn is calling for a Constitutional Convention, as are some of my readers. I can certainly understand the desire to wrench power away from Obama, Congress and the Supreme Court, and return it to the states and the people. Unfortunately, whatever the Convention decided would require confirmation by three-fourths of the states. Does anyone seriously believe that 37 states would agree on sensible solutions — including a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget — to the multitude of problems plaguing America?

I’m not saying you couldn’t get desired results from such a convention, but you would somehow have to find a way to keep at least six of the following 18 states from finding out about the get-together: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington. If you simply “forgot” to invite tiny Rhode Island and all the “M” states, you could do it, but you know what a big mouth New York has.

I have no idea what the solution is, but it certainly isn’t obvious. As bad as Congress is, let me remind you that the voters are no better. Some people take comfort in the fact that 55% of the voters don’t think that Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy. But that means that even after Benghazi, the secret email server, the reset with Russia and the corrupt practices of the Clinton Foundation, 45% of the people do consider her honest and trustworthy. That’s not saying much when only 32% of very young children still believe in Santa Claus.

Among Mrs. Clinton’s endless lies, the one we are likely to hear the most often over the next 16 months is that she is the champion of the middle class. Like Obama and every other Democrat, she is only the champion of the very poor and the very wealthy. That’s because they’re the easiest to satisfy. The rich, after all, only care about a thriving stock market.

As for the poor, they’re not overly concerned about education; state and federal regulations that destroy agriculture and other businesses; increased taxes on corporations and those individuals who actually have to pay them; hoaxes involving the climate; or policies that will inevitably bankrupt Social Security and Medicare. So far as the very poor are concerned, so long as their welfare checks arrive in timely fashion and nothing interrupts TV reception, America can go to Hell in a handbasket.

In the bad old days, the Democrats owned the plantations. These days, they still do. The difference is that those wearing invisible shackles are no longer required to pick cotton, but merely to keep re-electing the slave owners.

In continuing Obama’s game plan for ginning up the black vote, Hillary Clinton blames white society for the fact, as she puts it, that one in three young black men faces the prospect of going to prison. Democrats always pretend that individuals have no say in determining their own destiny.

If whites are the reason that a lot of blacks go to prison, does that mean blacks are somehow the reason that a lot of whites go to prison? Blaming whites for things they don’t control is a form of liberal logic I can’t begin to grasp. But, then, I didn’t go to Yale.

In the meantime, the Southern Freedom Law Center, a left-wing fringe group with close ties to Obama, has put out a hit list of several conservative women, including Ann Coulter, Brigitte Gabriel, Pamela Geller and Judge Jeannine Pirro, for daring to speak out against Islam.

After January 20, 2017, if Obama finds himself at loose ends, he might consider a directorship at the Law Center. After all, he, too, is only too happy to slap down Americans whom he’s decided have an unfavorable impression of Muslims. This is particularly true if they also happen to be Christians.

I would say that 36 years after the Iranians took Americans hostage, 36 years during which the civilized world has experienced unprovoked terrorist attacks in places ranging from Paris to Tel Aviv, from Manhattan to Garland, Texas, by those invoking Muhammad, anyone who doesn’t have an unfavorable impression of Islamists is certifiably cuckoo.
