I am still not on board for Donald Trump, but there’s a part of me that almost wishes he gets the nomination so I can watch Jeb Bush have to live up to his pledge to support the GOP nominee after Trump has given him, by actual count, 4,819 verbal noogies and another 1,734 wedgies.

Inasmuch as Trump has so far provided so many of the crowd-pleasing sound bites that Republicans are obviously hungry to hear, I am surprised that he hasn’t reprised his offer from some years ago to boot the U.N. out of America and convert its building into a first class hotel. Frankly, I’d be in favor of his turning the building into a trailer park, a wading pool or, perhaps more appropriately, a garbage dump. If there is a more corrupt organization in the world, at least outside the city limits of Washington, D.C., I haven’t heard of it.

Speaking of things that should be done away with, I’d have the V.A. high on my list of priorities. Even after the scandal and the promise to change its evil ways, a recent report discloses that there may be as many as a million veterans waiting to see a doctor. And inasmuch as some of them have been waiting since 2001 for an appointment, it is safe to assume that a great many of them are dead. In fact it’s not an exaggeration to suggest that the V.A. has killed more Americans soldiers than Al Qaeda and the Taliban put together.

It is time to give our veterans vouchers and tax credits and let them see regular doctors. But what’s been happening to them is no accident. In spite of Obama’s vow to make the V.A. straighten up and fly right, he has made it abundantly clear over the past seven years that he is concerned with the well-being of urban blacks, Muslims and homosexuals, though not necessarily in that order, and has nothing but contempt for past and present members of the military.

How is it that I, who know almost nothing about computers, understand enough to know that when Hillary Clinton and her spokesman are asked why she scrubbed her server, nobody is referring to a sponge or a wash cloth. I don’t mind so much that they feel it’s cute to pretend to be stupider than they are, but I really resent their assumption that we are.

As for Brian Pagliano, the computer technician who set up her private server, he has vowed to plead the Fifth if he is called before a congressional committee. However, once the Republican lawyers who fill the corridors of Congress get around to granting him immunity in order to compel his testimony about who told him to set it up and the reasons given for it, I would suggest he insist on being placed in the Federal Witness Protection Program, provided with a new face and moved to North Dakota or Timbuktu. When it comes to revenge, the Mafia dons go to the Clintons for refresher courses.

I know that some people, including Ted Cruz, are irate about Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis being placed in jail for refusing to grant marriage licenses to homosexual couples. I think what could wind up being a one year sentence is a bit harsh, especially when traitor Bowe Bergdahl is still free and working as an army clerk-typist and when Hillary Clinton, who divulged national security secrets, is still running for president.

As I see it, if Ms. Davis’s new-found religion is so important to her, as I’m willing to believe it is, she should be serving it in a more appropriate venue, possibly working at a religious school or even becoming a minister.

Years ago, I knew both people engaged in a sexual affair. The man happened to be a Catholic priest. I suggested that rather than be a hypocrite, it would be more seemly if he quit the Church and became a social worker. The last I’d heard, I explained, they weren’t expected to live up to a vow of chastity.

His explanation was that the turn-around collar provided him with greater ability to do good than he would have without it. I told him that even though I wasn’t a Catholic, I thought that was a pathetic defense.

So while I happen to agree with Ms. Davis on this particular issue, there are people around whose religious beliefs call for coddling snakes, sacrificing small animals and even murdering their daughters for the sin of falling in love with infidels, otherwise known as Christians and Jews.

In other words, religious rights aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be.

But, getting back to Ms. Davis, a question that keeps swirling around in my head is why, if the Bible is so important to her that she’d go to jail for her religious principles, she remains a Democrat. After all, that’s the party, as even she must realize, that not only favors, but promotes, same-sex marriages, legalizing drug use and funding the vile abortion franchise known as Planned Parenthood.
