Checking Out the Constitution

When we conservatives defend the Constitution and refer to those patriots who created it as divinely-inspired, it should be understood that we are referring to the first 10 Amendments, otherwise known as the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, there have been 17 additional Amendments passed since then. They’re a hodge-podge, some good, some not so good. The ones abolishing slavery, franchising women and eliminating the poll tax, were worthwhile; the ones that established the income tax, the direct election of senators, lowering the voting age to 18 and setting the date of presidential inaugurations two-and-a-half months after the election, have been disastrous.

But when people talk about preserving the sanctity of the Constitution by not amending it to deal with such matters as preserving marriage as an institution joining one man and one woman or to return the question of abortions to the States, you know it’s only because they favor same-sex marriages and abortions on demand. I mean, seriously, when two of the Amendments deal strictly with booze, you know what matters to these particular zealots is their left-wing agenda, not preserving James Madison’s original intentions.

It did my heart good to see black religious leaders congregating at the National Press Club to defend not only the Second Amendment, but the National Rifle Association, arguing that the NRA was established by Christians in 1871 with the idea of arming freed black slaves and teaching them how to shoot in order to protect themselves from the Ku Klux Klan, which is what Democrats used to proudly call themselves.

Other sources contend that the NRA’s first president, former Union Army General Ambrose Burnside, was aware that for every 1,000 rifle shots fired by his troops, only one Confederate soldier was hit, and decided that Americans needed to learn how to hit what they aimed at.

But there’s no reason to doubt either theory. It’s not as if they are mutually exclusive.

One of the sillier arguments waged against the NRA is that they lobby on behalf of gun manufacturers. If they lobbied on behalf of ethanol, green energy or gay marriage, the liberals might have a case. But without people producing guns, the Second Amendment wouldn’t be worth the parchment it’s written on.

Hillary Clinton rails against Wall Street on the campaign trail, but accepted $250,000-a-speech from those who work there. What’s more, she would have us believe that the money-changers asked for nothing in return; not even for the promise that she would give them free rein to carry on with the same financial transgressions that led to the real estate bust in 2008. If true, it would make them the single most altruistic group of people in America. By comparison, Doctors Without Borders, the nurses who flew to Africa to combat the Ebola epidemic and the Little Sisters of the Poor, would come off as a pack of selfish, money-grubbing, parasites.

I confess I don’t know why anyone would want to see a Democrat in the Oval Office. When you look around the world and see what socialism has wrought in Europe, Asia and South America; when you see the social and financial decay that inevitably go hand in hand with Utopian fantasies; a person in full possession of his mental faculties can only wonder if exorcism would work on those who eagerly anticipate voting for the likes of Clinton or Sanders.

Just how stupid are young women these days that they actually believe that employers would continue to hire men to do the exact same jobs that women would do for 29 fewer cents-an-hour? When I was a young man, I didn’t know a single young woman who was that gullible. But, to be fair, I also didn’t know any young men who would have voted for a schmuck like Bernie Sanders who calls himself an Independent except when he’s identifying himself as a Socialist or running as a Democrat.

To get some idea of how stupid Sanders is, he seriously believes that he can take a country that is already $19 trillion in debt and spend an additional $18 trillion providing single payer health care, free college tuition and a few other goodies out of his Santa bag, and pay for all of it by raising taxes on the wealthy.

The reason Sanders believes that isn’t because he is old and senile, but because he is a lifelong socialist who doesn’t know the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion. If he knew even that much about economics, he would understand that if you confiscated every last dollar from every billionaire in America, it would not come close to adding up to one trillion dollars. In fact if any of you happen to run into Bernie, please let him know that a trillion is a thousand billion.

Having said all that, at least those who support Sanders don’t have to turn a blind eye to his having allowed four brave Americans to die in Benghazi and then lied about it. They also don’t have to ignore his having pushed the re-set button with Russia or his having used a private server, thus providing our enemies with national security secrets, thereby placing our intelligence agents in jeopardy.

One of the saddest transitions that takes place in the world is the one that transforms very young children from creatures full of magic and imagination into eight and nine-year-olds eager to share every vulgarity they pick up from other eight and nine-year-olds, prior to evolving into those rude, foul-smelling, creatures known as teenagers.

It’s as if the four-year-old has been abducted by aliens and, once returned to earth, been replaced by a series of disagreeable changelings. In the case of conservatives, things generally begin to level out in their twenties or thirties.

Unfortunately, in the case of liberals, maturity is never achieved. That is why in places like California, New York, Oregon, Washington, Illinois and Vermont, you will often experience terrifying encounters with 60 and 70-year-old adolescents.
