Was Idi Amin Smarter Than Martha Stewart?

· Thursday, February 9, 2012

As I have stated in other articles, I hate the over-use of the word "alleged." I understand that those in the media are compelled to use it, for fear of lawsuits, when referring to people who have been indicted but not convicted, lest the jury neglects to find the person guilty. But when it is readily apparent to one and all, except for the 12 goofballs in the jury box, that, say, O.J. Simpson or Casey Anthony is guilty as sin, couldn't the TV reporter at least wink or giggle when using the word? It would be a way of letting us know that they know that it isn't the defendant's guilt that should be called into question, but, rather, the sanity and commonsense of the jurors.

I suppose that carried to its extreme, Obama's biographer will one day write that he was allegedly born in Hawaii, allegedly received good grades in college and was allegedly heterosexual, even though no woman, in spite of the fame and fortune awaiting her, has ever come forward to say that she dated him prior to his marrying Michelle when he was 31.

Speaking of people who should, by all rights, be going to jail, perhaps to share a cell with Bernie Madoff, there was Jon Corzine, the former governor and senator from New Jersey, being questioned by a congressional committee about $1.2 billion of MF Global customers' money that's gone missing. Mr. Corzine, who had already told a reporter that he had no intention of using any of his fortune to pay back bilked investors, sat at a table, insisting that even though he had been the head of the company, he had no idea where the money had gone. That part was all too predictable. What threw me is that this Jersey sleaze ball, this friend and confidant of Obama and Biden, got to perch behind a little sign identifying him as The Honorable Jon S. Corzine.

Now, first of all, I suspect the various politicians on the committee already knew his name. After all, they were the ones who had subpoenaed him. But how is that none of them commented on the fact that referring to this jackass as honorable was as laughable as putting a top hat on a pig. Wouldn't you think that the sign might at least have read The Allegedly Honorable Jon S. Corzine?

Finally, what is it with some people that compel them to take entirely unnecessary risks? I'm not just referring to those who climb mountains, bungee-jump or, worse yet, run for president when they must know that their worst, most embarrassing, secrets will inevitably be splashed all over the media, scarring their wives and children?

The folks I actually have in mind are those people who are given ample opportunity to avoid scandal, jail and even death, but decide to roll the dice and take their chances. For instance, when the prosecutors offered the fabulously wealthy Martha Stewart the opportunity to avoid jail time if she'd merely admit she'd saved herself some dough by taking advantage of insider information, why did she insist on going to trial? For one thing, it's not as if she couldn't have afforded to take the stock loss by ignoring the information she received in the phone call from a friend. For another, I'm sure her defense lawyers wound up costing her more than the $150,000 or so she'd saved by selling off earlier than the other, outside-the-loop, stockholders.

For that matter, why didn't Saddam Hussein, Hosni Mubarak and Muammar Gaddafi, all get out while the getting was good, and spend their golden years enjoying freedom and their ill-gotten gains?

If I were any of them, the worst part about ending up dead or in an Egyptian cage, would have been the realization that I was even dumber than a psychotic gorilla like Idi Amin, who wisely scampered off to Saudi Arabia, and, as a result, got to spend his last 24 years living the life of Riley.

Burt,

What of the alleged intelligence of American Voters, who continue to elect Democrats?

Burt: I love the word "alleged." It should be used more often as an adjective for our president.

Jeannette: But there are so many other, more colorful, adjectives that come to mind.

mmc and wjm: Come clean with us. Are you two married? Do you check with each other before sending comments? Does mmc always wake up three hours earlier than wjm and get first crack at the computer?

Burt - What about the alleged intelligence of the GOP leadership?

Posted February 9, 2012 at 3:16:25 PM

Burt Prelutsky

Ragweed: Some of the GOP leaders are smart. Others are are not so smart...until you compare them to the leaders on the Left. Then they seem very intelligent, indeed.

Burt,

we are siblings, a year and a half apart, two brothers of the same mother. We are but a short 13 hour drive apart, and as for his early am postings, way too early for me! We don't communicate about postings at all, completely independant endeavors. Not always like minded, as two boys growing up we had our fair share of battles, but think more often than not along your line of thinking. Love your work, the left gives you so much ammunition to write about, and you do it so well. Thanks and keep them coming!

Tex Horn

Some say that the GOP candidates are allegedly conservative. Some say (Democrats) that Republicans allegedly have no feelings, don't care about the poor. Some say that Obama is allegedly a liar, crook, and socialist of the worst order. Some say that the Justice Department allegedly no longer knows anything about real justice. Some say that Congress allegedly steals from their constituents using unconstitutional means. And finally, some say that all writers featured in the Patriot Post commentaries are allegedly conservative.

All allegedly true.

Yeah, I'm with you, Burt. "Allegedly" has to go. I would suggest substituting "may be", or "are", or "is" and drop "allegedly." Well, I guess "is" doesn't really work, because as a past president asked: What is "is?"

Burt Prelutsky

wjm: Thanks for solving the mystery. You regard a 13-hour drive as "short"? What are you, a cross-country truck driver?!

Tex: Judging by my feedback, Republicans spend more time trying to determine who is or isn't a RINO than they do waging war against liberals. Frankly, I think it is generally a waste of time. Liberals remain united against us while we argue whether or not Mitt Romney is a true conservative. All I know is that Ronald Reagan's record as governor of a left-wing state was no more conservative than Romney's was in Massachusetts...and it seems to me that he turned out to be a pretty decent president.

I differ with you on the relative smartness of democraps vs republican big shots (you can't call them leaders). The democraps know exactly what they are doing, turning the United States into a communist dictatorship. The republicans (small r) want to make nice with the democraps, fall for bipartisanship (giving in to the democraps) and snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

When Corzine was in the senate he was against letting citizens invest their retirement funds in the stock market. I assume when he was at Goldman Sacks (he was the head) he told his clients to put their money under the mattress.

As for Madoff he was small time compared to Joe Stalin's best friend FDR and the crooks and/or mental midgets in Washington telling us about how great social security is. I get ill when someone compares social security to a Ponzi Scheme as you get a better return in a Ponzi Scheme and no one is forced to join a Ponzi Scheme.

Howard: We agree about FDR and Social Security. But I don't know what makes you think the Republicans in Washington are aligned with the Democrats. The Republicans have opposed the Stimulus, Cash for Clunkers, Dodd/Frank, Card Check, ACORN and ObamaCare, and they have pushed for a balanced budget and entitlement reform. I think you should leave it to the Democrats to tell lies about the GOP. After all, that's what they do best.

The republicans have controlled the House for over 13 months. All money bills have to start in the House. How come they went along with raising the deficit ceiling and passing continuing budget resolutions? How come they have not shut the government down? Who gave us the first bailout, No Child Left Behind, the Patriot Act, the TSA, banned incandescent light bulbs, pushed amnesty for illegal aliens (oops undocumented workers), pushed the North American Union, refuses to get us out of the UN, etc? When if ever have you heard a republican big shot call for Barry's impeachment or questioned the phony birth certificate?

Posted February 9, 2012 at 8:41:32 PM

Burt Prelutsky

Howard: Even Republicans have to get elected and re-elected. When the government shut down in the 90s, the MSM saw to it that the blame was all laid at the feet of the GOP. I will remind you that it was Reagan who signed the amnesty bill a quarter of a century ago, and I suspect you like Reagan.

No Republican who doesn't want to retire to a farm is going to call for Obama's impeachment or raise a stink about his birth certificate. Why would he? That train left the station a long time ago. Hillary Clinton was the last person who could have done it and gotten away with it. Maybe.

If you want to be rid of Obama, vote for the Republican candidate, whoever he is, in November. The House has limited power when the other Party controls the Senate, the Oval Office and the mass media. That's just the way it is. There's nothing to be done about the media, but if the GOP gains control of the other two items, I don't think we'll see a repeat of the Bush years.

"There's nothing to be done about the media, but if the GOP gains control of the other two items, I don't think we'll see a repeat of the Bush years." I would not bet the farm on it. Republicans in most cases have spines of jello and/or are wannabe democraps. BTW, it was my RINO senator Simpson who sponsored the amnesty bill. No surprise there as he comes from the Peoples Republik of Jackson. I have a great idea, why doesn't Wyoming give Jackson to Kalifornia, that is where it fits politically.

Burt,

Pretty close to the mark, but not a truck, I'm a retired C-130 Navigator, after 26 years of 16 hour crew days, 13 hours is nothing.

Howard: I am betting that after November 6, when the Tea Party will elect a few more senators and representatives, we'll have a lot less backsliding than we did during the G.W. Bush administration. On the other hand, one should never overlook geography in these matters; there are only a few parts of the country where a true conservative can ever hope to be elected. It does nobody any good to simply pout when dealing with reality. You can elect a Tom Coburn in Oklahoma, but Brown, Collins and Snowe, are the best you can do in New England.

wjm: Thank you for your service to America...and for taking the time to explain how it is you regard 800 miles a short drive.

Holmes Simons

Burt, why would anyone raise a stink about impeachment or birth status of NotPresident Obama?

I'll tell you why. They all allegedly opened their allegedly intelligent, patriotic mouths, and allegedly swore an alleged Oath of Allegiance to allegedly protect the Constitution from domestic enemies. Is it allegedly OK for them to allegedly lie and then allegedly renounce said alleged Oath, while an alleged domestic enemy spouts lies and creates totalitarian regulations in accordance with the alleged “Rules of Man” as he hides behind his little podium with the Seal of the Alleged President emblazoned thereon?

Allegedly, I think not. They are not a bunch of alleged lying, self-serving cowards.

They ARE a bunch of lying, self-serving cowards! They have been frozen in time for three years by fear of saying or doing something that might be allegedly offensive to an allegedly semi-black man. Allegedly, this is not conjecture on my behalf; it is the absolute traitorous truth.

Since the FBI has decided, allegedly without direct approval from OGod, to profile as “terrorists” all white Christian, sovereign individuals, veterans, and Nobots, who are opposed to New World Order political structures and who believe in and support the foundational principles and laws of the US Constitutional Republic - not some alleged “interpretations” pronounced by some allegedly intelligent, mummified Supreme Court Justices - then you, I, and the majority of your readers are TERRORISTS. Not alleged terrorists. You are a Jewish terrorist, the most dangerous of all, allegedly. No matzo ball soup for you in the dungeon, only gruel and cockroach cakes delivered from Chicago daily by high-speed rail, allegedly. Or, maybe, it’s daley. Who knows?

Instead of subjecting myself to good, sordid fun from sexual abuse in prison by Big Bubba, I have decided to crawl out on a ledge high above the unwashed masses and jump as the Feds are breaking down my door. So, when I hit the ground 5 seconds later traveling from the 36th Floor ledge at the speed of 160 feet/second, shall I be allegedly dead, or shall I be dead from a ledge?

Free at last, free at last!

Richard Ryan

Burt, I hope that your comparison of Reagan and Romney as governors, and hopefully as president is correct as I believe that Romney will end up being our candidate. If so, I for one, will whole-heartedly support him. Any other than Obama as far as I`m concerned. As for Howard, while I admire him as a conservative, it is a sad fact that even conservatives sometimes shoot themselves and everyone else in the foot simply because they refuse to support the next best individual.

Richard: I believe I am correct. What's more, Romney, unlike Reagan, should have a Republican congress, so he won't have to depend on the Democrats to keep their word. I would have hoped that Reagan would have learned from Nixon's making the mistake of trusting the liberals when they promised to support the South Vietnamese once we pulled out our troops. Too often, Republican presidents remind me of Charlie Brown believing Lucy when she swears she won't pull the football away this time.

p.s. Do you think you might be able to talk Holmes off that ledge? I need all the readers I can get.
