Open Thread: Stonewall Jackson

Today we mark the birth anniversary of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson (1824-1863), a great military commander and a man of equally great faith who gave his life for the cause of liberty and states' rights.
Jackson died of pneumonia after being accidentally shot by his own men during the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. Upon learning that Jackson lay dying, Gen. Robert E. Lee said, "Give General Jackson my affectionate regards, and say to him: he has lost his left arm but I my right."

Thank you for marking this death of this courageous, God-fearing American. His valor and skill on the battlefield are unsurpassed and his untimely death was a tragedy for us all. I recommend everyone visit his death site, at Guinea Station, not far from Fredericksburg, Va, and visit his home in Lexington to learn more about this wonderful man. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you for honoring this great Christian man. I know he would have been a reader and supported of the Patriot Post! I also recommend all Patriot readers to visit Lexington, VA, and the Virginia Military Institute in particular. Go see the place where Sir Moses Ezekiel's bronze statue of Jackson stands in honor at the 'Jackson Arch' entrance into barracks. Flanked by the four cannons (Mathew, Mark, Luke, & John) that Jackson used to drill cadets during his tenure at VMI. All 'Rats' (1st year cadets) must salute 'Gen. Jackson' before entering barracks. Visiting VMI helps restore my hope for this country's future. VMI is also a great resource for the 'rest of the story' about Gen. Jackson. For example, few know that this great military leader was also a courageous Sunday school teacher. http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/300501How I wish that men of such courage and conviction were leading our great nation today!
