While the proposed takeover of health care continues to flail in the Senate and fall in the polls, Democrats stubbornly forge ahead anyway. For a poll-driven party, this is unusual and seemingly self-destructive behavior. Indeed, as the Examiner's Byron York put it, "Democrats' race to pass national health care seems irrational -- even suicidal." The question is, why are they so persistent?
The answer is simple: Elected Democrats and their lackeys in the press alike believe that if their so-called "reform" of the health care system doesn't pass now, when they control the White House and Congress with large margins in both houses, it will never be done.
As Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto quipped, "In the Bizarro World that is our nation's capital, this is an argument for enacting legislation that would drive up government debt, taxes and insurance premiums while reducing the quality of medical care. Hey, we'll never have another chance to do it! You only live once!"
There are three different perspectives for Democrats. York interviewed a Democrat strategist who laid them out:
In the House, the view of [California Rep. Henry] Waxman and [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi is that we've waited two generations to get health care passed, and the 20 or 40 members of Congress who are going to lose their seats as a result are transitional players at best. This is something the party has wanted since Franklin Roosevelt.
At the White House, the picture is slightly different. Their view is, "We're all in on this, totally committed, and we don't have to run for re-election next year. There will never be a better time to do it than now."
And in the Senate, they look at the most vulnerable Democrats -- like [Chris] Dodd and [Majority Leader Harry] Reid -- and say those vulnerabilities will probably not change whether health care reform passes or fails. So in that view, if they pass reform, Democrats will lose the same number of seats they were going to lose before.
So, again, why would Democrats hurt their own party to pass this legislation? "Because they think they know what's best for the public," the strategist said.
None of these arguments is strong on the merits because the health care bills in Congress are unconstitutional and absolutely terrible besides. But what's the price of failure?
The Democrat strategist made what might be the perfect analogy: Democrats are like bank robbers and no matter what happens now, they're guilty of something. "They're in the bank, they've got their guns out," the strategist said. "They can run outside with no money, or they can stick it out, go through the gunfight, and get away with the money."

It is shameful that this despicable breed is in charge of this great country. For the first time in my life I am embarrassed by my government and astounded and saddened by the ignorance and stupidity of the average American voter who voted for the current administration. They must be removed from office and the monstrous restrictive legislation that the are attempting to enact to the detriment of America must be stopped.

"Hope and Change" Wonderful words How's it working for everybody. Anyone who payed attention to the inaugral address by the current Great Leader would know this was coming. He said he was going to fundamentaly change American society. "Elections have consequences" - George W. Bush. We are reaping the "rewards" of our blindness and our willingness to be sheep.

"Do it now, [no matter how badly], because you'll not have another chance." And these are the people in charge of one of the world's biggest collection of nuclear weapons! I tremble with fear for the rest of world when I realize the depth of the irresponsibility of the current administration and Congress.

It's really isn't irrational/suicidal at all, provided you give it some thought.
The answer to this one is simple enough. After they control health care, their next move is to import countless illegal immigrants to offset the angry voters already present in the country. Having "reformed " immigration, and giving new citizen status as well as voter cards to this new group, perhaps as many as 20 million people, whose entire allegiance will be Leftist, they don't have to be afraid of anyone anymore !
It's "game set, and match" as they say.....there will be no hoped for "realignment" in 2010.
The idea of an independent voter / conservative Democrat/ swing vote will be moot..... and I cannot believe that I am the only one in the country that see's this.

Jeff of course you are right. Limbaugh and Hannity have both made this point but it seems the point was ignored or not taken. thts why i said above "if we have the November 2010 election" With this power grab the liberals want to completely dominate the whole populus. Read that enslave.

Our country as we have known it is now over. I read his books and saw what was coming. We will not have a chance. People were angry with GB and just wanted to show them up. Whatever that means. We have always thought we had the next election. We have had our LAST election.

Do not give up. If the future has never looked so bleak before, that means little more than that the victory shall be more glorious than ever.
One thing I know about Americans - it has been made clear decade after decade, century upon century - is that Americans never give up when they know they are right. If they were wrong, they may simply try to drop the issue quietly, but if they are right they press on as stubbornly as a glacier.
DO NOT LOSE HOPE, AMERICA! DO NOT STOP TRYING!! The future is counting on you - you dare not stop trying. If you do, they will be your condemnation for a thousand years. If you do not give up, no matter how hard the struggle, they will sing of you long after you are dead and gone.
