An Anti-American Ad?
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Each year, the Super Bowl features the best of the best squaring off to determine a champion. We're talking about the ads, of course.
Beer companies and stock traders usually dominate, but this year, it's Focus on the Family that's generating the pre-game buzz. The Christian organization has purchased airtime for an ad featuring University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, who is an outspoken Christian.
What many people don't know, but will after the Super Bowl, is that the Heisman Trophy-winning two-time college football national champ almost wasn't born. He will be in an ad telling his story. GOPUSA's Bobby Eberle sums up the controversy:
During a mission trip, an infection led doctors to recommend that Pam Tebow have an abortion to avoid the risk of her own death during childbirth. She chose life, and now her story will be told in the form of a Super Bowl ad. Rather than celebrating the ad as a "success" story, some so-called women's groups are blasting the ad and urging CBS to ban it.
Furthermore, according to Fox News, "critics suggest [the ad] could lead to anti-abortion violence, even though none of them have seen it."
Jehmu Greene, director of the Women's Media Center, a group trying to force CBS to pull the ad before it airs on Feb. 7., warned that Focus on the Family "is extremely intolerant and divisive and pushing an un-American agenda." Choosing to give birth to a baby and then telling people about it is "intolerant and divisive" and "anti-American"? That's leftist "tolerance" for you.
Abortion is legal thanks to a Supreme Court decision taking away the right of states to determine the issue for themselves -- that system of federalism set up by the Founding Fathers but destroyed, piece by piece, by actions such as those taken by the Court. That legality is not in danger. So instead of ranting about how dangerous the pro-life movement is, perhaps Ms. Greene could put her energies into advocating adoption, a real solution to unwanted pregnancies. But that choice isn't pro-choice enough for these people. The only choice they're for is abortion.
On the other hand, we're thankful for young men like Tim Tebow. "I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe," he said. "[T]hat's the reason I'm here, because my mom was a very courageous woman. So any way that I could help, I would do it."

"...perhaps Ms. Greene could put her energies into advocating adoption..." While I agree, adoption is only half the battle, and a battle taken up by the responsible ones of the population (I know personally the process is no picnic). How about focusing some more energy on getting the "unwanted- baby-makers" to keep their pants on and take some responsibility for their behavior? That's a battle I'd like to see fought, but never will by the liberals. I know I'm preaching to the choir on this one, but I'd love to see an end to this "woe is me" victimization stance as half of the liberal whiners are merely victims of their own choices.

So.... they're "pro-choice", huh? UNLESS the choice is "life" I guess.

The opposing parties can buy air time during the super bowl and broadcast their point of view. Maybe they can feature women who have had abortions who can tell us how their abortions have benefited them.

Thanks for showing the Tim Tebow story. Wholesome and inspiring.
Where oh where are the so called "Womens Rights" groups when women are exploited and made to look silly in one ad after another?
Also, I don't like beer and don't like the way it is promoted, but I respect your right to air the ads. PLEASE do the same for Tebow and his wonderful Mom.
Thank you.

Good for him!! I wonder how pro-"choice" his opposition would be if they could see exactly what happens during an abortion. This kind of thing should be shown to anyone who claims to be pro-"choice": http://weeklystandard.com/articles/mugged-ultrasound

Those against abortion are called "Pro Life". What is the opposite of life? It certainly isn't "choice". It is "death"! So why aren't the pro-abortion crowd called Pro Death"??? Could it be that they don't consider the unborn baby to be alive?? That unborn baby is "alive" with a heartbeat, hands, legs, other functioning organs and its own personality. The abortion people must know down deep in their souls that abortion is murder of an unborn baby. Abortion has become a form of birth control and should not be supported by our tax dollars. It is wicked and evil and should be banned. Roeder should be given a medal and set free.

I've always been amused and somewhat confused by the thinking of many on the left regarding this issue. Like, how many in the PETA organization champion abortion but fight against serial murders from getting the death penalty. It's ok to kill the innocent but we should save the guilty? It's ok to murder babies but don't use vermin for drug experiments to save a human? I know, I know, "Humans are the disease not rats". And they talk about tolerance and humanity. Too bad the prevalence of Christians in places of power are so few.

"Right to choose","Pro-Choice" are terms for excuse slips; "Absent from self-worth","Excuse from Responsibility" is more descriptive. This Republic is founded on principles of Christianity. All principles. Not just some, all! The assault on the Republic is gaining success. It is unfortunate that those in the People's Seats, seem to be leaders in that assault.

What is particularly sad is that women do have the "right" to choose to abort their living fetus (baby) as verified by the Supreme Court however this "right" seems to be not enough for them as it has extended itself into an appearance of hatred (or at least intolerance) of those who make different choices and choose instead to give life to their baby. I have long wondered if some of this aggressive emotion is due to deep-seeded feelings of guilt in doing something they "know" to be wrong in ending the life of a living baby within their womb. The arguments regarding adoption or minimizing sexual encounters when discussing abortion, although legitimate issues in their own right and worthy of further discussion and debate, it seems to me are really diversions from the very real issue of deciding to end the life of a baby that is already within the womb. My heart breaks for so many who have made this choice and upon later contemplation and regret are stuck with the emotional consequences from that point forward...

Perhaps Focus on the Family should have used the several hundred million dollars spent on this ad to keep their employees working and avoided the huge layoffs they had. This would have supported families a lot more than a 30 second spot. I can't say if being pro-choice or pro-life is the right way to be. I am not the one who has to live with the consequences, either way. But the pro-life people should be out there adopting the unwanted children. And I don't see that happening.

I am interested in how the "pro-life" camp justifies an exception in the case of rape and/or incest. It has always appeared to me that this is making the unborn baby (with a right to life) suffer for the "sins of the 'father'" (or really sperm donor).)

We are a nation of arm-chair quarterbacks, all with "the right to our opinions" about decisions that have been entrusted to other people. George R is obviously unaware of the adoption emphasis at Focus on the Family. It doesn't take much effort to find that Dr. Dobson's successor Mr. Daley was himself an orphan and is actively encouraging families to adopt children.
My own family adopted. I can tell you first hand that the "system" is not friendly to Christian families who want to welcome an orphan into their homes. Its just one more choice that the pro-choice crowd doesn't want bible-thumping, intolerant right-wing nutcases to make.
They are Christophobic.

The thing that always interests me is how the 'pro-choice' people fail to recognize that God is the original. author of choice. The choice comes not when one is facing an unwanted pregnanacy but rather when they chose to have sex. Once that choice is made, the decision to be responsible for one's actions has been made. God is also the author of accepting resonsibilty for one's own actions.

I believe God said "I have given you the choice of life or death. The blessing or the curse. Choose life"Mrs.Tebow made her choice. How terrible it must be growing up as a child later to know that your mother could have chosen to have terminated you out of convenience.God bless you Tim and you Mom

We should be teaching our daughters and our sons that sex is a joining of your very self to another. We should be teaching the value of your self and that it should not be given away lightly. It is the choice of sex that is the problem - the loss of value for each individual.

I'm confused about the abortion issue. When a pregnant woman is murdered, the perpetrator is charged with a double homocide, acknowledging the fact that the fetus is, indeed, a human life. But then again, if the woman can legally choose to abort that same baby, perhaps because it may cause an "inconvenience" to her or others, why is she then not charged with murder? This double standard is a dangerous precedent, giving women the power of life and death.

While I am very thankful I never had to make the coice, I will stand with my sisters and fightfor their right to choose what they do to their bodies. It is a womans right to choose. No one has the right to govern our decisions and free will. Believe it or not, some good people of this country do believe that life begins when the first breath of life is given and the spirit enters. Just as they believe the spirit leaves the body on the last breath of air. Differences of beliefs have caused wars through the ages. I think men should stay out of this decision. Pro Choice people do know God, you stand in hipocrasy to judge another. Shame on you! How dare you bring His name in to justify your own personal beliefs. He alone will judge- that is not for you to do. Stand and support those in need do not stand and point your fingers and feel high and mighty. Shame on you

I believe the "pro-murder" group is NOT the majority, just the LOUDEST! We who are pro-life need to be MUCH less tolerant and let OUR voice be known, especially in the election process. God Bless You, Tebow Family, for your courage under fire.
