ACORN-Slaying O'Keefe Arrested

Friday, January 29, 2010

UPDATE: A couple of new and interesting allegations have surfaced in the case against O'Keefe. Andrew Breitbart, who publicized O'Keefe's series of ACORN sting videos and made the young filmmaker the darling of conservatives, claimed in an interview that O'Keefe had been denied access to an attorney for 28 hours after his arrest, sitting in jail, while the U.S. Attorney for eastern Louisiana, Jim Letten, leaked information to the media in an effort to portray the case as "Watergate junior." Letten recused himself from the case a day after the arrests, leaving his top assistant to handle the matter.

Having been released from custody, O'Keefe acknowledged that his investigative approach was flawed but reiterated his theory that Landrieu was intentionally leaving phones unanswered in the wake of the controversial "Louisiana Purchase" of her vote on the Senate health care bill.

***

Investigative journalist James O'Keefe, along with partner Hannah Giles, created the infamous series of videos last year that showed representatives of ACORN willingly advising the couple how to engage in illegal acts such as child prostitution, human trafficking and welfare fraud. For that, O'Keefe and Giles became the target of yet another lawsuit filed by an employee from ACORN's Philadelphia office. Katherine Conway-Russell, the employee shown in the Philadelphia office video, filed suit against the pair alleging they disseminated the recordings "in a manner calculated to harm and injure" her.

The news doesn't get any better, either. O'Keefe and three other men were arrested for posing as telephone company employees and gaining access to the telephone closet serving the New Orleans district office of Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu. The four-page charging affidavit alleges the four entered the building "for the purpose of willfully and maliciously interfering with a telephone system operated and controlled by the United States of America." However, the charging document doesn't say anything about wiretapping or bugging the offices as indicated by some Leftmedia types all too thrilled to report on O'Keefe's arrest. Their attorney claims they were just trying to catch Landrieu's staff on video ignoring phone calls from constituents angry about her vote on health care.

Regardless of the outcome of the ACORN civil case, the criminal charges against O'Keefe and company for their actions in a federal building show there are some tactics which enterprising journalists would be well-advised to avoid. Asking tough questions is one thing, but this lame stunt shows that the ends don't justify the means.

"...Leftmedia types all too thrilled to report on O'Keefe's arrest..." One could say the same about Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, etal. I think that they have gone to great lengths to distort the ACORN story, which by the way has resulted in no evidence of "criminal activity" on the part of ACORN. When the gavel comes down on O'Keefe and company, we'll see who's thrilled in Rightmedia.

Who is going to expose what they are doing in this office? They are ignoring constituent phone calls. She needs to go.

Thanks for exposing ACORN Mr O'Keefe...however, the law is the law, and this guy broke it...SEND THEM ALL TO JAIL !!

ACORN is one of the most despicable organizations I have ever heard of. OKeefe and Co. deserve a medal for revealing how corrupt they are and that was just the top of the iceberg.

What a disgrace that capital(criminal)hill has become.I do believe that through the efforts of PATRIOTS will make a big difference in November. But my concern is how to go about reversing the privilages congress has given itself. It is way past time for the "Citizens" of America to start pushing to put an end to all past, present & future members of congress from their self imposed "retirement plan & health coverage".No person should be allowed to serve more than 2 terms in any office, & attheir terms end, they leave office & enter the work force (if they can do better than most of us who cannot find work) & earn an honest salary. They are no better than anyone else to work (outside of government i.e. lobbiest) & provide their own retirement & health care.We also need to demand that pay cuts run long & deep through the federal government,& that any pay raises be decided by the legal citizens of this Nation. It is also to cut out the many entitelment programs, send the illegals & their families i.e. "anchor babies" back to their country of origin. We have plenty of people living in housing & benefiting from the efforts of all the honest working citizens, to do the jobs that we are told we need illegals to do because nobody else wants too. They should be given the option to work at the jobs that the illegals are willing too do,or to go hungry & live under a bridge, instead of having these vote buying politicians keep creating a means for generation after generation to live off of the backs of the ones of us who work at whatever job we can find.

Somebody needs to tell Gov. Arnold, thst if the state he rules will rid it of the millions of illegals,(most of whom do not work & live off of the money that honest citizens have been paying all their working lives)he could solve most of the states budget woes,& at the same time put millions who are on the govt. dole in the "jobs no one else will do",& get them off of our backs,& give them a chance to work & earn their own way.

IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE,(not hussein obama's change)BUT A CHANGE IN POLITICS AS USUAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would seem, NoThankYou, that you are in need of either a reality check or a brain transplant. ACORN is being investigated for criminal activities or under indictment for committing criminal acts in a LOT of states. They are certainly guilty of MANY acts of voter fraud, amongst other criminal acts. Why, like your Democrat friends, do you condone their acts?

I know for a fact she ignores calls. Living in Louisiana the last 10 years and I've repeatedly called her office over the last couple of months, only to have the phone ring numerous times and the phone never gets answered. The fact is she does not want to answer to her constituents when it comes to this health care bill.

Probably not the smartest way to get information. How is showing a video of what actually took place "Going to Great Lengths"? Let's see if they get off as easily as ACORN did.

ACORN has my vote. Oh yeah, I forgot. They aready have 17 of my votes, but only one was by me....

WD

ACORN filed suit?!? Katherine Comway-Russell herself disseminated information "in a manner calculated to harm and injure her" and she got caught!

Now this arrogant twit is trying to play the victim? Please! The American people have had enough of this garbage - SHE SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR TRYING TO DEFRAUD US - as they are funded by taxpayer dollars (Yea, that's you and me).

They did go about it in the wrong way in LA, but I give these guys credit for at least have the cajones to expose the corruption so prevalent amongst "our representatives" (now that's an oxymoron)and thug outfits like ACORN - they should get NO MORE funding and should be disbanded as any criminal orginization would be. Time to stand up to these self-serving criminals!

This is an example of an angry citizenry that is taking action to reclaim our Republic. These are covert actions not subversive, the struggle has begun to reclaim a liberty under assault. O'Keefe is a brave civilian operative, citizen soldier. Those intent on changing our free Republic to a socialist tyranny should wake up and smell the coffee for this is just the beginning. As the assault on our freedom continues more and more citizens will pick up the banner of restoration of our free republic in covert as well as conventional ways. The question remains will it be the ballot box or the cartridge box?

This story broke the day after I watched "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days". Same story, different time really. While some, in positions of responsibility, are right to call into question Mr O'Keefe's method here, I can't say enough about the courage of these young people.

My understanding is that O'Keefe & Co. were simply doing their job as journalists. It was a public office, open to the public; they did not interfere with any lines or equipment.

Their "crime" was to investigate the truth of the claims by a Senator that her phone lines had been "jammed for weeks".

Naturally, as it was a Democratic Senator, the MSM have tried to muddy the waters by accusing the journalist of criminal activity.

And you seem to have fallen for their poisonous nonsense.

O'Keefe & associates were simply casualties in the war against Tyranny and Patriots should keep them in our prayers. Under normal circumstances in a Free society I too would disapprove of their tactics. Unfortunately our circumstances are not normal and our society is no longer Free. Patriots will suffer many more casualties but still we must not falter; the survival of our Republic is at stake.

We must remember this war against Constitutional Liberty was imposed against us. We must assure ourselves in such a conflict we have but two rule: to honor God, and to prevail. The Enemy observes only one of those rules but its failure to honor God will deny it His Grace.

It is funny how Mary Landrieu's phones are now suddenly working, and the emails are suddenly being replied to. The actual crime here is that a suppossed representative of the people has closed off communications with her constituancy so solidly that some of them were compelled to launch their own investigative reporting. The press was all over this intrusion into her office, but where were they when Landrieu constructed a reputation for barring communication? Where are they on this matter now? They are handing us a diversion with this arrest, and not even commenting on her isolation of her constituancy, and the 'Dutchess' style of life she currently enjoys. At least we know how much her soul is worth...a measly 300 Million of OUR dollars. And she sold it.

I find this section of the charges to spur a Counter Law suit Sen. Mary Landrieu.

"The four-page charging affidavit alleges the four entered the building for the purpose of willfully and maliciously interfering with a telephone system operated and controlled by the United States of America"

"Willful intent" not to answer to those who you serve....The very people that you representBill

You liberals that post on here are all the same. It doesnt matter to you that ACORN members have been indicted in Las Vegas and other states, and they, on Camera, where it is very difficult to lie I might add, were seen in there offices telling people how to brake the law. You are so upset that you are all being played a fool, that you are trying to shoot the messenger. I understand you have pride and you would not like to admit that you voted for Borat Obama, but you have to show your pride for your country, if you have any, and do the right thing. Remember in America you are (innocent)until proven guilty. You are basing your hate for O'keeke based on the nonsense you hear on CNN, MSNBC, and the other far left media. Why dont you guys listen to Glenn Beck one aftenoon at 5:00 and then google anything that he is telling you to see if it is fact or not. Stop burrying your heads in the sand. The corruption in Washington is not going to stop until all of the crooks are voted out on both sides.

O'Keefe deserves the "CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR", for doing what he did! It took a courage "above and beyond the call of duty"! He also should be awarded the "Jackass of the year award", for the manner in which he chose to do it! But, that being said, more people need to get involved, get out your cameras, and earn more and more "Jackass of the year" awards! It's the "JACKASSES" that need to be removed, in any legal way possible! By the way, isn't a JACKASS the symbol of the Democratic party? Fitting,... very fitting!

I believe that government has no place in state affairs. I believe that government should only deal with international politics. Keep government out of our lives. So many people sit and cry about how sad it is that we give Obama such a bad rap. But if anyone watched the SATU it sumed it all up. "I lied, and I'll work with anyone who will do what I tell them to do." Our Government needs a total overhall. I say kick all illegals out of the Country put up a wall and if you try to climb over it then let some snipers get some practice in. I'm tired of my tax money get waisted and having nothing to show for it. "ACORN" a government terrorist organization. All Obama wants to do is bancrupt america and then say I can save you, just do what I tell you to do. ARGGHH I'm fed up. We need to bring back state militia's and take our government back.....................

If we REALLY had a U.S. Justice Dept. THAT WORKED, O'Keffe and Co. would have been given both a real budget and certain immunities to investigate corruption that's costing US Citizens dearly! Particularly after they proved their undeniable willingness AND ABILITIES with ACORN! EVERY ONE OF US need to work to that end and not react to such a statement with; "Oh yea! What a dreamer."

You go O'Keefe and company. Someone needs to stand up. It won't matter who gets voted in and out of office we will always have the same scumbags. The only time the politicians stand up is when they are in fear of losing their cushy job. I say make the job not so cushy and there will be less carpetbaggers in OUR government. "No Thank You" should expand her reading beyond Olbermanisgod.com. ACORN has been convicted of crimes in more than a dozen states over the last several years. The number is probably higher as they disguise filter their criminal enterprise through well over one hundred different front groups.

That being said, Mr. O'Keefe is a patriot for what he has done, HOWEVER he cannot circumvent the law in doing so. Still, let's put the opposing offenses on a scale. On one hand, you have a group of individuals who are attempting to expose groups and politicians who are abusing the public trust. On the other, you have a highly-partisan organization that uses taxpayer money to fund criminal activites and uses the public treasury to rig elections. And, in the case of Landrieu, you have a high-priced not-so-pretty woman who sells her alleged principles for $300 million in pork and then lacks the courage to face her constituents. O'Keefe may have broken the law with his journalistic tactics, but he did not defraud taxpayers, knowingly fund prostitution or violate an oath of office.

When '60 Minutes' does this sort of thing, it's hailed as Investigative Journalism, when it's not PC, however it's defamation.

Maybe O'Keefe needs to switch to the Michael Moore mode: just make it up as you go. Much safer to do the dirty work in your editing room.

But be warned, when the PC witch hunters really want you...

John McClain

For years now, we have heard how it was all the fault of G.W. that Katrina was such a devastating disaster for New Orleans, and Louisianna, however, if one reads history, listens to the news, and takes note that New Orleans was in dire straits for two centuries before G.W. was conceived, it was in dire straits the entire time he held office, but was only highlighted during the brief moment of opportunity to pin this two century failure on a deliberately vilified president, and remains the same hapless, un-productive, hole in the state, allowing countless millions be poured down the hole, and remain in the exact same condition it has been in for more than two centuries, one would think that even a very stupid and ignorant person would finally understand the problem is internal to New Orleans, and that until that City, meaning its people, since the buildings aren't capable of rising up in rebellion to what has been done to them by their occupants, chooses to be a net producer of economic value, finding something of value that it can be a net exporter of, at least equal to that which it takes in, it will remain a little bit of the "third world" here in America that anyone can go visit, and see what bits of Somalia look like, the tamer bits I admit, but third world non the less.

When someone I vote into office shows a complete lack of capability in doing the required job, my first thought is to turn out the incompetent. If they show it in the first weeks, I start then, working on impeachment, not out of anger or to "get even", but simply because there never was a day in this world, where the tax payer could afford to keep those who have proven themselves incompetent in office, in those offices one day longer than it takes to see the facts, and to get the process completed, and the incompetent gracefully removed, or kicking and screaming all the way, it matters not to me, what the incompetent person acts like, it is all about being able to accomplish the job.

This is the most fundemental principle of our Constitution, that "we, the people" are "served" by those we elect, and we elect them to serve "under the law", which is the Constitution, and do our bidding, thus making us responsible for the job getting done, because we are the masters, in charge of the servants, and if one's hired servants are incompetent, and the master does not dismiss them and hire competent ones, is it not the master who is at fault, and responsible for the incompetent performance? Is this not the heart and soul of the real issue of New Orleans? Is this not the central issue with regard to the State of our Republic, half turned into a Socialist form, with powers of Fascism being used by the central government, which completely ignores the law which has always been "The Supreme Law of the Land"?

There are many Sovereign Citizens who wish merely to be as our forefathers were: in charge of their own lives and their own destiny. Then there are the many, ignorant, who would have the lives of their parent's generation, largely invaded by socialism, and its oppressive costs borne by those who work the hardest, and enjoyed by those who work the least, and lastly, there is the class of socialists who have been born in this nation, or found their way to it, who wish to live without raising a finger, and have found a party to vote into power which is willing to use their laziness, and lack of morals and ethics, to provide a base, with which they can overwhelm the class of Citizen who wish to have the least government, and the most personal responsibility, since they are the smallest of groups, and thus work to permanently turn this Nation into a socialist one, using the aid of the immoral and unethical to support their goal, and using the infiltrated socialists to accomplish their work in Congress. Words only have real meaning when they are accompanied by actions which are parallel to the words, and fulfill the stated intent. When they don't parallel, we can easily know the deliberate intent of those speaking them, is to steal something from us, and to violate our Natural rights. Every single time an elected official lies, that person is in the midst of literally stealing the Natural rights of Sovereign Citizens, and it is the fault of the Sovereign Citizen, for not watching over their rights, not the fault of the immoral and unethical person who can only be expected to be evil.

There is nothing in between "Responsible and Irresponsible", and in order to actually be a "Sovereign Citizen" as our Constitution takes note, one is responsible for the support and continuation of the Constitution, the supreme law of the land, and any damage done to it, is the exact fault of "The People of The Several States" for seeing it broken and violated, and not taking immediate action to remedy it. We have the exact government we have allowed to grow like mold and mildew on rotten fruit. We, the ignorant citizen, ignorant because we failed to ensure our education took place, are the cause of our downfall, and only "We, The People" can stand up, re-assume our role as "Sovereign Citizens", and confront that which we allowed to grow into a monster. Ultimately, that is exactly what all the tea parties, all the private messages, and all the individual actions against the out of control government are, merely the tardy actions of an irresponsible Citizenry, finally getting off our Duff, and taking up our Duty, which we let fall by the wayside for far too long.

We can have the Nation that was once a "shining beacon on the hill" for all the world, as all the world once proclaimed, or we can continue to destroy it incrememtally, until there is no more Free Nation on the face of the earth, as we are the singular and only example there has ever existed, and we are a hair's breadth away from being no better than the worst of modern totalitarian dictatorships.

GySgt John McClain is absolutely right. We have let the politicians take over the running of our lives. The politicians, after being elected, have no other purpose in life than to get re-elected. They have taken advantage of our laziness to further their own agenda's and enrich themselves at our expense. It is time we take back our nation. Vote all incumbents out, elect new, and require that they act responsibly. If they fail to act responsibly, vote them out and start over. We owe this to our grandchildren and their grandchildren.

Until we eliminate 'government schools', public unions, and Congress ability to set its own rules, etc. we will continue down this road to destruction.

It is past time to establish several amendments to the US Constitution:

1. Term limits. eliminate entrenched power cycles.

2. Direct petition of the citizens to initiate legislation.

3. All laws passed by Congress must effect Congress as well as the citizenry.

4. Eliminate all entrenched benefits for service in Congress. As demonstrated by our Founders, it's supposed to be a duty, a sacrifice, and not result in personal gain.
