The Patriot Post® · Homeschool Families Are Next
A German Tennessee family faces deportation after fleeing from Germany 15 years ago due to persecution for homeschooling. It is illegal for parents to homeschool their children in Germany, and doing so can result in jail time and the removal of your children.
The current state of American public education has motivated many families to find other methods of education, and homeschool is among the preferred alternatives. In 2022, black and Latino families reportedly made up 50% of new homeschool families. When more than half of Latino and black students can’t read at grade level, it becomes clear why some families may decide to take their education elsewhere.
Public schools across the country have reported a decline in enrollment and some have even announced school closures. In Seattle, parents have opted for homeschooling due to the racially charged atmosphere within the public school system. The decline in enrollment has caused school administrators to worry. Many are asking the tough questions about why enrollment is declining.
With enrollment decreasing, schools closing, and teachers exiting the teaching profession, anti-homeschoolers will start to come out of hiding. We will begin to see calls for homeschool regulations, then calls to make homeschooling illegal. The calls to make homeschool illegal has already started on X (formerly known as Twitter).
One user on X says, “Unless you have a very good reason, homeschooling should be illegal” because, this person claims, “too many parents use it to abuse their children, keeping them ignorant and easy to control.”
The argument of child abuse will be relied upon to create legislation that will regulate homeschool families. If such legislation passes, the same argument will be made to eventually attempt to make homeschooling illegal.
Those who are not familiar with homeschool have created a negative perception of homeschooling and refuse to see the outcomes. Homeschooling gives families the opportunity to customize the education of each child. Homeschooling creates strong family bonds and children that outshine public school students in virtually every metric.
But there’s a “problem.” A family that homeschools becomes a threat to the Left’s agenda. That agenda seeks to destroy familial ties and create lifelong voters who do not question the narrative. The concerted attack on the homeschool family is coming and it is only a matter of time.
In the meantime, it is important for all new homeschool families to become familiar with the homeschool laws in their state. It is also necessary to create relationships with lawmakers who support a family’s right to homeschool and will defend it when the time comes.
Homeschool families are strong and resilient. When the time comes to defend homeschool at a legislative level, homeschool mothers will turn the event into a lesson and will lead endless field trips to their state capital.
