Universal healthcare sounds like such a caring, compassionate, and moral thing for a country to do. Why shouldn’t citizens have access to quality healthcare? Some are comfortable with paying just a bit more in taxes if it means that we get universal healthcare.

Those who are heavily invested in the universal healthcare narrative fail to see the cruelties behind universal healthcare. What can go wrong with the government being in control of its citizens’ healthcare?

Many things can go wrong. Let’s begin with tyranny.

Let’s not forget the heavy-handed mandates that came with the COVID-19 vaccine. Our own government mandated that everyone in certain sectors take a novel vaccine or face the loss of employment. Many submitted to the mandate and kept their employment. Some experienced negative side effects. Some fought for their right to medical freedom and lost their job, but their dignity was left intact.

With universal healthcare, if the government wants you to take an experimental drug, you take the experimental drug with no questions asked. Those who do not obey the government’s command can lose their healthcare and be denied lifesaving treatments until they comply. We have seen patients of all ages be denied procedures like organ transplants because they did not take the COVID vaccine.

If mandated medical procedures don’t cause enough concern, some then bring in euthanasia.

Universal healthcare systems like Canada’s are known for their euthanasia practices. This isn’t your sick old dog being euthanized. We are talking about doctors recommending euthanasia as part of their practice. In Canada, if one is depressed or homeless, a doctor can prescribe euthanasia.

Some may think that it’s their right to die when they wish, but what if you are a baby who is using medical equipment for survival and your government decides it no longer want to pay for it?

It’s unfortunate that we are not speaking in hypotheticals. In the United Kingdom, a baby was denied her right to life because her government no longer wanted to pay for her medical expenses and deemed that death was the best option for her.

Baby Indi Gregory passed away after her life support was removed due to a judge’s orders. Her parents were not in agreement, and the Italian government graciously provided baby Indi with Italian citizenship so she could receive the healthcare she needed in Italy. In response to this act of kindness, baby Indi’s government ordered that she be taken to a hospice care facility with police presence so that her parents would not flee to Italy to save their daughter’s life.

With universal healthcare, you are at the mercy of your government. Your government decides whether you live or die. Your government decides what type of healthcare you get and when you get it.

Tyranny is only one reason to put the universal healthcare debate to rest, but it is one of the most important reasons.
