We are only two weeks into the new year, with each news headline more baffling than the last. Harvard has made national news by offering a course to its medical students about providing healthcare for LGBTQIA+ infants.

The course description states, “Clinical exposure and education will focus on serving gender and sexual minority people across the lifespan, from infants to older adults.” In this course, students will work with multiple teams including OBGYN, pediatrics, family practice, psychology, and psychiatry.

The question that remains at large is, how does an infant who has just been birthed know what his or her sexual identity is?

The reality is that infants don’t know what their sexuality is. This course is another method to further indoctrinate medical students into an ideology that is not rooted in truth or reality. The days of Harvard prestige are over when courses rooted in gender ideology are offered. Not to mention, when Harvard leadership is known to openly plagiarize and then blame racism when confronted, it is no longer a serious academic institution.

In a time when there is continued mistrust between patients and medical professionals, courses that teach medical students about an infant’s sexuality will further feed that mistrust and divide. Pregnancy and birth is a season of life when women are most vulnerable. It is unethical to bring in such divisive ideologies into an OBGYN practice or any medical practice.

With gender ideology being forced onto people, the rise in homeschooling and home birth makes sense. Most are tired of political ideologies bleeding into the school and healthcare systems.

In 2020, there was a rise in families that chose home birth over hospital birth. Draconian COVID mandates left some women to labor alone and with a mask on. Some hospitals even separated a baby from his mother even if the mother was not COVID-positive. Not only were these protocols cruel, but we also got a peek into other unnecessary protocols that are blindly followed during pregnancy and birth that don’t help mothers and their babies.

The rise in homeschooling has also been due to political ideologies and a lack of academic achievement in our public school system. Parents became aware of what schools were and were not teaching in their children’s schools. Many were not allowed to express their concerns due to the fear of becoming labeled a domestic terrorist if they did.

With many looking for alternatives to birth and education, it is important to stay vigilant to ensure our freedom to choose is not legislated away.

In the birth space, we must be on the lookout for any legislation that regulates or forms committees to regulate midwives, doulas, or other birth workers.

In public education, we must keep an eye out for any legislation regulating homeschooling.

As the great Thomas Jefferson once said, “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
