The Patriot Post® · Fact-Checkers' Crackdown Not Slowing Down
With the formation of “fact-check” organizations over the last several years, most of us have had personal experience with the notifications that pop up to warn us that the information, graphics, or comments we are sharing might not be entirely accurate. Supposedly, by sharing said information, graphics, or comments, we could be putting the public at risk.
It seems as though the fact-checkers have lost their faith in humanity, heavily doubting the ability or desire of human beings with functioning brains of our own to do our own research — and therefore they feel it is their job to swoop in to save us from our presumed ineptitude.
With the rapid emergence of these fact-checking platforms, however, many people have caught on to the reality that, more often than not, the information that is being tagged as false or misleading is usually marked as such not because what’s been shared is untrue but because it does not align with the approved narrative of the media or our leftist political leaders.
When your social media account can be suspended or entirely eliminated for simply stating that there are only two genders, it’s a pretty strong indicator that their “fact-checking” system is not backed by evidence, data, or science.
It’s common knowledge that much of the public has little trust in this behind-the-scenes setup meant for information monitoring — which is supposedly meant to protect us from the “violence” of hearing full or partial untruths. Yet despite this, the agenda of filtering public material through a lens of what will and will not support the current narrative is not only not slowing down, but the crackdown on dissenting views and discussions will be heavier than ever.
According to a Nieman Lab article, the number of fact-checking organizations has gone “from 11 in 2008 to 424 in 2022, and dropping slightly to 417 today.” The article outlines several challenges that fact-checkers face, one of them being that of a divided audience — those who believe the suggested edits by fact-checkers versus those who believe the “misinformation.”
The solution, as suggested by the World Economic Forum during this year’s Davos conference, is to stir up fear against those who are still in denial about the threats of things like climate change, racism, and other woke-infused ideas, and to place “misinformation” and “disinformation” as number one on the list of threats that plague the entire planet right now — above even terrorism and extreme weather events.
PolitiFact founder Bill Adair is, not surprisingly, hopeful about the future of information monitoring and seems to be particularly excited about the creation of new agencies that are engaging in this work on a smaller scale. All statements, viewpoints, articles, and information must be vetted — a particularly important task as we approach the 2024 election. “In the coming year,” says Adair, “I predict (okay, I hope) that fact-checkers will reassess their goals and reimagine how they publish their work. It’s time to get rid of our old approach and 2024, an election year, is an ideal time.”
We have seen the antics of the hysterical left-wing mobs, whether berating innocent people simply for driving their cars or targeting businesses that happen to be in an area that’s been reclaimed by cop-hating “social justice” rioters.
Today, tensions are significantly higher, and these same groups seem to need little reason to let loose on unsuspecting communities of innocent, freedom-loving Americans.
The question now is, What consequences might be proposed against those whom the elite accuse of ignoring or actively participating in what they have deemed as the top global threat?
