The Patriot Post® · Is Trump Derangement Syndrome Burning Out?
Hatred can be exhausting. That’s effectively the takeaway from a recent New York Times article titled “Anti-Trump Burnout: The Resistance Says It’s Exhausted.”
The problem for Democrats is that Orange Man Bad isn’t the motivational factor it used to be. “Some folks are burned out on outrage,” explains one anti-Trump leftist activist. “People are tired. I think last election we were desperate to get Trump out of office, and folks were willing to rally around that singular call to action. And this election feels different.”
Don’t get these Trump Derangement Syndrome-suffering Democrats wrong; they still loathe Trump. But that white-hot outrage they have been stoking for nearly eight years now is, well, taxing.
The Times points to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll from September, which found that 39% of Democrat voters chose “exhausted” from a list of sentiments regarding the election, while 26% of Republican voters felt the same way.
There are a few insights in the Times article that expose why Democrats are so tired. As one Democrat strategist, Leah Daughtry, put it, “They hear it every cycle: This is the most important election ever.” She then observed, “People want to vote for something and not necessarily against something.”
Another voter said he was “uninspired” by the leading candidates for the 2024 election. While he voted for Joe Biden in 2020, the man explained that he was not that motivated to vote this time. “A lot of us would like a more positive thing to motivate us. Not just purely, ‘Do this or else this bad thing is going to happen.’”
That, in a nutshell, is why Democrats are so exhausted. They are effectively being told to support Biden no matter what. Yet they see their guy as an old and deeply flawed candidate who has done little other than ensure that almost nobody is happy. The economy is bad, crime is worse, our foreign policy is awful, and the border is a catastrophe.
There is nothing that Biden has done that is broadly embraced as good — which is why the prospect of voting based upon the message of “Trump is worse” is simply not very motivating.
The truth, though, is that as Election Day draws ever nearer, the deeply TDS-afflicted are sure to rise to the task and vote against Trump. It’s the non-TDS voters — both Democrats and independents — that have Team Biden worried. If these voters are exhausted of being lied to about how bad Trump is compared to Biden, then that’s bad news for Democrats.
And bad news can also be exhausting.
