“These private companies have a right, protected by the First Amendment, to control what speech will be expressed on their platforms. That’s not the problem. The problem is that Section 230 shields them from the consequences of exercising editorial control, protection that was afforded only with the expectation that they were UNABLE to control content. Remove that protection and let them be held legally liable for their part in, say, encouraging and enabling a ‘mostly peaceful’ riot somewhere. Once their one-sided bias starts carrying a cost, the problem will solve itself.” —Georgia
“Controlling speech is also controlling the free dissemination of information — controlling what people hear, i.e., information they need to make wise and informed decisions. Anything that limits or interferes with that free flow of information is a violation of the right to be heard and the right to hear. It is, plain and simple, psychological manipulation, indoctrination, and brainwashing of the population. If media, traditional or social, is unwilling to allow the full spread of information from ALL corners, they don’t deserve to be in business. “Good article. I have lived my whole life in southeast Illinois, and it’s pretty rural. I harbor no rage or hate for anyone. These two supposed scholars/journalists are just trying to transfer the blame for what their leftist friends are doing.
