Stock market soars 1,300 points after Trump’s win: Your 401(k) is looking a lot better today than it did before Donald Trump was president-elect. As CNBC reported hours ago, “Stocks were poised for a booming rally Wednesday as Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 1,231 points, or about 2.9% [UPDATE: 1,300 points and about 3%]. S&P 500 futures gained 2.1%, and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 1.7%. The last time the blue-chip Dow jumped more than 1,000 points in a single day was in November 2022.” Trump’s economic message clearly connected with more than just blue-collar and middle-income Americans. “We’re going to pay you back,” he said during his victory speech. “We are going to do the best job. We’re going to turn it around. It’s got to be turned around, and it’s got to be turned around fast. And we’re going to turn it around.” Said Great Hill Capital Chairman Thomas Hayes, “This is what lower regulation and lower taxes look like.” Indeed. And this is what a resounding Republican win looks like.
Kamala Harris is a
soredisgraceful loser: The American people dodged a bullet yesterday in the form of a Kamala Harris presidency. Aside from being a Bay Area leftist, an intellectual lightweight, and the ultimate DEI hire, Harris is also a sore loser. We know this because she disappeared at some point yesterday and refused to pay Donald Trump the common courtesy of a congratulatory phone call before he took to the stage after 2 a.m. to address his supporters. Indeed, she refused even to address her own supporters, who’d been waiting outside for hours at Howard University in DC. Instead, she pulled a Hillary Clinton and sent out a surrogate. “We still have votes to count,” said Harris Campaign Co-Chair Cedric Richmond. Harris will apparently address the nation this afternoon or evening. Last night on Fox News, former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen shared his thoughts on the Democrat’s breach of protocol and her lack of decency: “The thing that jumped out at me,” he said, “is that most of these speeches begin with, ‘I just received a call from my opponent, who graciously conceded the election. And I thanked her, and I congratulated her on a well-fought campaign.’” Seems pretty simple, right? Wrong.Mark Robinson loses: North Carolina’s gubernatorial race did not follow the presidential contest, which Donald Trump won by three points. Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson went down in flames, losing to Democrat Attorney General Josh Stein by nearly 15 points. Robinson was always a long shot, but when news broke in September of his Internet, er, habits, the writing was on the wall. Really, his inflammatory rhetoric did him in — or at least the media’s portrayal of that rhetoric. According to The Hill, “He called Muslims ‘invaders’ and referred to homosexuality as ‘filth,’ abortion as ‘genocide’ and feminism as being ‘watered by the devil.’" Sounds bad when taken out of context like that, but regardless of context, touting yourself as a "black NAZI” is probably unwise — especially when you’re running against a Jewish opponent. Stein will become North Carolina’s first Jewish governor, though the Tar Heel State has been governed by Democrats for most of the last century. Indeed, since 1901, the state has been governed by just three Republicans, all of whom won since 1973.
Fulton County persecutor Fani Willis wins reelection: It’s said that every people gets the government they deserve, and the people of Georgia’s Fulton County are no exception. There, Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis won reelection against a Republican opponent who, realistically, had almost no chance in such an overwhelmingly Democrat county. Willis, of course, is the corrupt, race-baiting DA whose 15 minutes of fame are attributable to her lawfare campaign against Donald Trump. As Just the News reports, “In February 2021, a month into Willis’ tenure, she announced her investigating into whether Trump and others broke laws trying to overturn Trump’s narrow reelection loss in Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden. Two and a half years later, Willis obtained a racketeering indictment against Trump and 18 others.” Willis, though, isn’t exactly squeaky clean herself. She has been credibly accused of engaging in an improper romantic relationship with Nathan Wade — a married man whom she hired and paid handsomely to prosecute the RICO case against Trump despite his having exactly zero experience in prosecuting such cases.
Left-wing DAs get the boot: George Soros doesn’t have the level of control often assigned to him, but he does pay for a lot of influence. Significantly, that includes backing radical leftist, soft-on-crime district attorneys in cities nationwide. One of those DAs, George Gascon of Los Angeles, resoundingly lost his reelection bid yesterday to former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Nathan Hochman. Gascon rode the George Floyd anti-police wave into office in 2020, but he lost this time after spending the last four years dumping criminals on the streets. Hochman promised a tougher approach to crime, and voters didn’t hesitate, giving him a resounding 62-38 win. Hochman is a Republican-turned-independent who endorsed Kamala Harris, so the lefties in LA didn’t have to feel too Trumpy in voting for him. Meanwhile, in Athens, Georgia, DA Deborah Gonzalez was also sent packing by a similarly whopping 60-40 margin. If you’re wondering why that’s good news, remember Laken Riley, who was murdered by an illegal alien in Gonzalez’s district.
Cali’s anti-crime Prop 36 passes overwhelmingly: Californians yesterday proved that even they have their breaking point, as voters in the Golden State resoundingly approved a ballot measure whose purpose is to punish shoplifting and other crimes more harshly. The New York Post reports, “The outcome of the state’s Proposition 36 reflected a backlash to light penalties for shoplifting and drug-related crimes — and passed despite opposition to the reform from Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.” At least Newsom staked out a position on the measure, which is more than we can say for Kamala Harris, who refused to do so even when asked directly by a reporter. As the Post adds, “Prop 36 authorizes felony charges for possession of drugs including fentanyl and for thefts under $950 if the offender has two prior drug or theft convictions.” Support for the measure seems like it would’ve been a no-brainer, given that it drew a massive 70.6% of the vote with nearly 7.6 million ballots counted. On the other hand, no one ever accused Kamala Harris of having brains.
Florida rejects pot: Marijuana is, like, bad, man. We think in 20 years, most Americans will agree that the experiment with decriminalizing it was a terrible idea. It turns out that a prevailing plurality of Floridians agree now. “An effort to legalize the use of recreational marijuana in Florida has failed at the ballot box,” NBC News reports. Even though Donald Trump won the state by roughly 1.4 million votes, his endorsement of and promise to vote for Amendment 3, which would have legalized recreational weed, wasn’t enough to surpass Florida’s 60% threshold for constitutional amendments. It garnered just under 56% — about the same as Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis opposed the amendment, saying, “It would be everywhere. The state would smell like it. We don’t need that in Florida.” DeSantis famously studies such issues, and he no doubt knows the risks.
