The Patriot Post® · American Medical Institutions Get Woke Infection
When it comes to debating climate change, pandemics, and transgender youth, those who live in the world of common sense are often told to “trust the science.” But it’s hard to trust the science these days when it’s so often tainted by ideology rather than objective, dispassionate analysis and the scientific method itself.
Using science to advance a political or social agenda might be harmless in some situations, but in others, it’s downright deadly.
Just think of all those whose lives were upended or even destroyed by fearmongering over the pandemic. We’d still be in lockdowns, keeping kids out of school, and masking infants if we hadn’t woken up and fought back against the tyranny disguised as science. And the climate change cultists are still pushing us to give up our way of life by insisting that the only way to save the planet is to embrace the “green” tenets of Marxist ideology.
Alarmingly, politics cloaked as science is coming from all directions.
Take the issue of puberty blockers and teens. Some parents resort to drugging their emotionally undeveloped children when they claim to be uncomfortable with their biological sex. Modern science tells us there’s no gender, that it’s a social construct, and as a result, we must let our children choose their own gender. Anyone who opposes this manipulation and mutilation of kids is told to — you guessed it — “trust the science.”
Fortunately, many states are now fighting back and banning puberty blockers. This includes Tennessee, which found itself on the receiving end of a Biden administration lawsuit on behalf of families with transgender children. The case has since found its way to the Supreme Court.
According to the Rainbow Mafia proponents at CNN, the case “challenges the constitutionality of Tennessee’s gender-affirming care ban, which restricts puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender minors and enacts civil penalties for doctors who violate the law.”
Responding in court documents to the legal challenge, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti writes, “Tennessee, like many other States, acted to ensure that minors do not receive these treatments until they can fully understand the lifelong consequences or until the science is developed to the point that Tennessee might take a different view of their efficacy. The law challenged here prohibits certain medical interventions for minors for which there is scant scientific support.”
Illustrating the extent to which the medical field has become political, The Washington Times reports, “A vast majority of leading American medical societies have adopted left-leaning political positions unrelated to their health specializations, a study released this week by the anti-woke medical advocacy group Do No Harm found.”
The Times adds: “The group looked at statements from 28 of the nation’s leading medical societies since 2010 and found that 26, or 93%, had published statements on affirmative action or racism, 57% on climate change, 50% on immigration, 39% on Ukraine, and 18% on Middle East conflicts. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology have spoken publicly on all five issues, even though the topics are outside their expertise.”
Medical societies taking leftist positions on a range of issues shouldn’t necessarily be a problem so long as they keep their agenda out of research facilities, laboratories, and doctors’ offices. In one recent example, Dr. Johanna Olsen-Kennedy conducted a study and found that puberty blockers did not improve the mental health of children. And what might have been an important part of the ongoing debate over puberty blockers was silenced.
According to another Rainbow Mafia mouthpiece, The New York Times, “In the nine years since the study was funded by the National Institutes of Health, and as medical care for this small group of adolescents became a searing issue in American politics, Dr. Olson-Kennedy’s team has not published the data. Asked why, she said the findings might fuel the kind of political attacks that have led to bans of the youth gender treatments in more than 20 states, one of which will soon be considered by the Supreme Court.”
When doctors choose a political agenda over protecting children, it’s time for someone to step up and defend our most vulnerable citizens. That’s exactly what Tennessee and other states have done.
“J. Matthew Rice, arguing for Tennessee, claimed the treatments were ‘risky and unproven’ and said the law turned on the medical purposes of taking hormones or puberty blockers, rather than a sex classification,” reports Roll Call. “Rice also compared gender-affirming care to assisted suicide, lobotomies and eugenics that states had a right to regulate.”
The Left and its army of agenda-driven scientists and doctors are preparing for a long-term battle against states that have banned these medical procedures for children under 18.
Fortunately, it appears that the Supreme Court’s conservative majority is inclined to uphold these bans and protect our children from “science” that’s nothing more than quackery.
