The Patriot Post® · Christ on the Move in Hollywood
Hollywood, specifically the glitterati class of individuals, is not where one might expect to find a wealth of Christians. In fact, Christian actors, filmmakers, comedians, and musicians in Los Angeles and elsewhere are encouraged not to talk about their faith. However, Christ is on the move in the City of Angels, where the lost souls of the celebrity class are declaring Christ is Lord.
We’ve seen an amazing change in people like Russell Brand, Shia LaBeouf, Kat Von D, Justin Bieber, and Gwen Stefani, all of whom are publicly declaring their faith.
In their circle of the beautiful and famous, there is no social advantage to becoming a Christian. In fact, Christianity is the most persecuted religious group in the world, and being born again can be a barrier to any sort of success in the moviemaking and secular music industries.
The latest Hollywood star to make a very profound declaration of faith is actor Denzel Washington. Washington was baptized on December 21 and received his minister’s license. At age 70, Washington’s moviemaking days are coming to a close. While he has long been a Christian and a man of integrity, this shift away from Hollywood to live the rest of his life serving the Lord and ministering to His people is a very bold step.
Leftists who are anti-Christian — which is most of them — attack these enlightened individuals for their “bad faith.” Vanity Fair published an article back in October accusing the Catholic Church specifically for enticing conversions. Leftists see Christianity as fulfilling a psychological need, an opiate to the masses. They fail, as always, to see the philosophical elements that unite Christianity: truth and reality. This utter blithering dribble from Vanity Fair fails to understand that people convert because they have been convinced that God’s word in the Bible is true.
Devoutly Catholic political pundit Michael Knowles posited these thoughts about the celebrity converts’ state of mind: “I cannot read their minds, but I suspect that they are attracted through their minds because it’s true. They are attracted through their senses to its beauty. And they are inspired as a matter of virtue and the matter of law inscribed in every human heart by its goodness and sanctity.”
On a cultural level, the fact that people are returning to Judeo-Christian values speaks more pointedly to the utter failure of materialism, neo-Marxism, and moral relativism. The promises that these atheistic counterfeit religions present — i.e., that there is no truth and you are your own god — lead to utter despair and emptiness. There is only inner turmoil and confusion.
Our continued prayer should be that more and more people of all persuasions come to faith and turn to Christ. He is the only rock; everything else is sinking sand.
