“I so agree with Thomas. I am a lifelong Catholic and I am shocked by the message that comes from the pulpit these days. I think about the stories in the Old Testament, and I do not understand those who are defending illegal entry into the United States based on the Scriptures. I would think they would recognize the stories of the slavery and treatment of the Jews. Yet the Left is wondering who is going to pick the blueberries at less than minimum wage. Helping the poor is one thing; enabling the poor is another. Helping people in a rough time is also one thing; causing them to remain in that condition is another. Many ‘do not discern the Lord’s body’ in Communion or do not see what God does for them in baptism. It is common for them to be hung up on eschatology instead of teaching salvation through Christ alone. “Seemingly opposite is the surge in Latin Mass attendance. How can these two — the informal and the very formal — both be growing at the same time? After Vatican II, Mass became attendee-focused and homilies waded heavily into worldly matters. The Church lost my physical presence over this, but Jesus never lost my heart. Apparently our neighbors were running us ‘through normal channels’ instead of treating the problem as the emergency President Trump considers it to be. “After World World II, women remained in the workforce rather than going home to be part of the family structure. Corporations were happy to welcome this capable workforce that cost less money and brought skills that were needed to grow the economy and business structure. Unfortunately, the family structure suffered, and lower academic achievement became a result of this new metric. Trying to fix education by government involvement (Department of Education) failed, but as a government program, it was probably given eternal life. Maybe it can still be saved.” —Washington
