The Democrats in Congress are still infighting over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s failed game of chicken¹ vis-à-vis the Continuing Resolution. Ergo, former Democrat-turned-independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) sees it as a prime time to mock her hypocritical ex-colleagues.

Sinema and former Senator Joe Manchin (WV) both ended up leaving the Democrat Party over issues like the filibuster. They broke with the party line during the Biden administration when the Democrats pushed to eliminate the filibuster altogether. The party’s motivation for such an extremity was to codify Roe v. Wade, but Sinema and Manchin argued that eliminating the filibuster was short-term thinking.

At the time, Sinema told her constituents², “When you have a place that’s broken and not working, and many would say that’s the Senate today, I don’t think the solution is to erode the rules. I think the solution is for senators to change their behavior and begin to work together, which is what the country wants us to do.”

In other words, eliminating the filibuster would lead to more fractious instability, as whatever side was in marginal power could force through whatever legislation they deemed fit. This shortsighted move by the Democrats would only work if they stayed in power indefinitely. (The 2024 elections sure provided good “I told you so” hindsight.)

On X, House Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) lamented the Schumer backtrack and clapped back at Sinema for calling him a hypocrite. “We wouldn’t be here had we raised the wage!” Khanna insisted. “Look at [former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador] who took the min wage from $4.65 day to nearly $15 day and was followed by a talented woman in his own party —President Sheinbaum! Had we raised the wage & delivered childcare we could have had President Harris.”

Sinema responded, “If u [sic] had eliminated the filibuster & voted for everything that the Left wanted, the threat of the filibuster being used by Rs would never happen bc Ds would win every election & have a permanent majority. What a breathtakingly undemocratic take.”

Sinema has been having fun calling out the hypocrisy of all the Democrats who are upset with Schumer for failing to filibuster last week’s Continuing Resolution after fighting so hard to eliminate the filibuster. In particular, she called out to House members: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) — reportedly the candidate that most represents the Democrat Party⁷ — and Pramila Jayapal (WA).

Sinema and AOC went back and forth on X. AOC claimed that Democrats who wanted to preserve the filibuster didn’t use it during times when it was needed, thus proving her point. Sinema shot back with facts — she had, after all, kept a spreadsheet⁸ of all the Democrats who advocated for abolishing the filibuster. She hit AOC with this nugget⁹: “Literally zero Senate Democrats support the filibuster. 38 voted to filibuster the continuing resolution yesterday. 8 who previously voted to eliminate the filibuster (1/19/22) did not filibuster. 1 who previously campaigned against the filibuster did not filibuster.”

In other words, only nine Senate Democrats stuck to their original guns and didn’t filibuster. The Democrats are hypocrites for even being mad that Schumer caved.

Sinema also trolled Jayapal by reposting an old X comment in which the Washington congresswoman refers to the filibuster as the “Jim Crow filibuster.”

Sinema wasn’t the only person to poke fun at the ridiculous Democrats who love to flaunt the specter of racism to manipulate the public into siding with them. CNN’s Scott Jennings also used the phrase “racist Jim Crow filibuster” to jab Schumer and the Democrats for caving. The other delicious aspect of this exchange was that it forced CNN anchor Jake Tapper to explain to the audience that these Democrats who hate the filibuster and branded it racist five seconds ago are mad at Schumer for not using the filibuster.

Their filibuster flip-flop proves the larger point: Congressional Democrats are purely motivated by what can keep their party in power and by what they can use to bully the American people into their way of thinking. They are doing this in other sectors as well. For example, the Left supposedly loves green energy, but the second Tesla founder/DOGE chief Elon Musk stuck a toe outside the party line, they began rushing at him with pitchforks.

The American people are tired of their hypocrisy. That’s why they voted red in November.
