Cops acquitted in Tyre Nichols death: In Memphis, Tennessee, in 2023, five police officers were involved in the arrest of Tyre Nichols, who fled from officers after being pulled over. The officers chased him down and then beat Nichols, who died in the hospital three days later. All five officers have been found guilty of several charges in federal court and await sentencing. Still, three of them — Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Justin Smith — were acquitted of all state charges on Wednesday. The trio arrived on the scene after the beating had begun, and after two days of deliberation, a jury decided they were not guilty of second-degree manslaughter. In 2023, Nichols’s death spurred protests, as these five officers were accused of acting to uphold white supremacy. All five are black, though the Leftmedia is obsessed with noting that the jury was white.
Old man yells at cloud in first post-presidency interview: Joe Biden has made his triumphant return, first with a speech on April 15 and now with a BBC Radio 4 interview. Biden predictably attacked Trump’s actions, saying he is “not behaving like a Republican president.” Joe “Minor Incursion” Biden accused Trump of “modern-day appeasement” toward Vladimir Putin’s Russia over Trump’s hardball stance in bringing Ukraine to the negotiating table. Biden also defended his decision not to drop out of the 2024 presidential campaign earlier because he had been “so successful.” When asked if dropping out sooner would have changed the election outcome, he said he didn’t think it would’ve made “much of a difference.” Having or not having a Democrat primary race is apparently insignificant.
Oligarch Sanders makes “no apologies”: Sen. Bernie Sanders and his pal, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are bravely fighting the “oligarchy” — by traveling the country in a private jet, at a reported cost of $221,000 in the first quarter. Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked him about that last night, and true to form, Sanders offered “no apologies.” In fact, it’s “the only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people,” he blustered. “Think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United waiting, you know, while 30,000 people are waiting?” He’s much too important to wait with the commoners. He added, “We’ve done it in the past, we’re going to do it in the future.” The apparent Democrat alternative to waiting to board a flight is Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s example — cut in line in front of disabled people.
Crockett cuts in line ahead of disabled passengers: Jasmine Crockett is not an impressive person. The most recent example of her character was given on Sunday after Republican House Conference Chair Lisa McClain posted images of Crockett using her taxpayer-funded police escort to cut the line boarding a plane. The photos show Crockett speaking to the gate attendant with several people in wheelchairs waiting to board. Crockett was the first passenger on board the flight, which must’ve been gratifying. McClain claims this was an abuse of power. Crockett also recently gave a commencement address in which she appeared to call for violence, telling graduates to “use a chair” if necessary. Before that, she infamously called Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is paraplegic, “Governor Hot Wheels.” Maybe she has a thing against disabled people.
Pro-Hamas protesters invade Columbia University library: Approximately 80 anti-Israel protesters took over the Columbia University Butler Library on Wednesday. They hung up Palestinian flags, graffitied walls, danced on tables, and, as one anonymous student amusingly put it, “Chant[ed] like, I don’t know, ‘Free Palestine,’ the classics.” Perhaps they were trying to bring back the “good ole days” of the Biden presidency, but unfortunately for them, we have entered the Trump “Find Out” presidency, and they were hauled out in zip ties by police officers. NYC Mayor Eric Adams has stated that he stands with Jewish New Yorkers and Columbia students who may feel unsafe attending class due to these events. Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X that the visa status of these “trespassers and vandals” is under review: “Pro-Hamas thugs are no longer welcome in our great nation.”
12-foot bronze “Girlboss” statue graces Times Square: Meant to be a contrast to the two statues of “white men” already on Times Square, a new statue of a fictionalized black woman has been erected at Broadway and 46th Street in New York City. Those two “white men” are Father Francis Duffy, the most decorated cleric in the history of the Army, and George M. Cohan, a show business superstar credited with creating Broadway. The “Grounded in the Stars” statue created by artist Thomas J. Price will remain in Times Square through June 17. The Times Square Arts team says the statue should “offer viewers a unique opportunity to experience Times Square in a new light.” That new light is apparently a giant, ugly statue of a fictional woman obstructing the view of a major tourist destination.
DEI boycott fail: In February, under pressure from the Trump administration and activist Robby Starbuck, many major companies ditched their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies and departments. The Left called for a “total economic blackout” on February 28, during which participants would refuse to purchase anything at all for an entire day. Attempted boycotts targeting Walmart, Amazon, Nestlé, and other major companies have continued since then. Well, the first-quarter results for those companies have come in, and the boycotters failed. Walmart experienced 6% growth, Amazon 9%, and Nestlé 2.8%. Some boycott! More boycotts are expected for the second quarter. Perhaps this time, months after the changes, leftist consumers will make their desire for DEI felt.
Trump’s surgeon general swap: When Donald Trump nominated Janette Nesheiwat to serve as surgeon general, many in the “Make America Healthy Again” movement wondered what he was up to. Nesheiwat was a big proponent of COVID vaccines (this just in: so were Trump and a lot of other conservatives early on), but her real sin was commending Facebook for censoring people for even questioning the vax. She’s also pro-abortion (so is Robert F. Kennedy) and has spoken favorably of “gender-affirming care.” Whatever the reason, Trump withdrew her nomination yesterday in favor of Dr. Casey Means, whom he says “has impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials.” Fox News reports, “She is a Stanford-trained physician and has made a name for herself as a wellness influencer.” Clearly, Trump and Kennedy regrouped on how to implement the MAHA agenda.
