Jake Tapper, Alex Thompson, and ‘Original Sin’ Hypocrisy
These charlatans’ new book on the cover-up of Joe Biden’s decline is a classic example of journalists not taking accountability for their own whitewashing in the service of the Democrat Party.
Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again is a new tell-all book by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios national political correspondent Alex Thompson. The premise of the book is that Joe Biden’s decision to run again despite his cognitive and physical decline was the “original sin” of the 2024 election.
While Tapper and Thompson place all the blame on White House staffers and on Biden himself, there is no accountability taken for their part in refusing to ask the obvious questions — and scoffing at or rejecting anyone else who did — when the former president began to show signs of his faltering ability. Of course, our own Douglas Andrews pointed out this sad state of affairs about Biden before Election Day in 2020. Where is The Patriot Post’s Pulitzer?
Throughout his term, Biden’s inability to perform his duties as the chief executive became increasingly evident. He had several public falls, like tripping up the stairs to Air Force One and tipping over on his bike at Rehoboth Beach. He even almost tumbled off the stage at the Air Force Academy.
Biden had other indicators as well. His speech was slurred, and his thoughts without (or even sometimes with) the teleprompter were incoherent.
Tapper and Thompson questioned nothing. In fact, they were the Pravda arm of the legacy media, perpetuating the “stutter” explanation for Biden’s fumbles and being incredibly vicious toward anyone who dared to question Biden’s fitness for the office. Here are just nine different instances in which Tapper denied, attacked, or distracted.

What truly angers the Leftmedia is that reporters like Tapper and Thompson lost so much credibility after Biden’s debate against Trump. They had been selling the lie for years that they had no political agenda.
A New York Times review of the book says:
The result is a damning, step-by-step account of how the people closest to a stubborn, aging president enabled his quixotic resolve to run for a second term. The authors trace the deluge of trouble that flowed from Biden’s original sin: the sidelining of Vice President Kamala Harris; the attacks on journalists (like Thompson) who deigned to report on worries about Biden’s apparent fatigue and mental state; an American public lacking clear communication from the president and left to twist in the wind. “It was an abomination,” one source told the authors. “He stole an election from the Democratic Party; he stole it from the American people.”
For its part, Team Harris has jumped on the bandwagon since the whole “America is racist and sexist” bit isn’t getting her more play. David Plouffe, who served as a campaign adviser during her presidential bid, told Tapper and Thompson that Biden “totally [screwed] us” by not dropping out earlier.
It has now also come out that had Biden won reelection, his staffers were planning on him needing to be carted around in a wheelchair because the man was losing it physically. Had this occurred, these same two journalistic clowns would probably have told the concerned public that this was totally normal and did not at all mean that Biden was in decline — while simultaneously savagely attacking conservatives for pointing out the obvious. Would Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) have called Biden “President Hot Wheels”? These are things we will thankfully never know.
The audacity of these “respected journalists” to publish this revisionist history as some sort of absolution for their failure to do their job is breathtaking. These men sold their professional integrity in the service of the Democrat Party and had the gall to pretend that they were unbiased.
Yet there will be no consequences. Tapper and Thompson will win accolades, awards, and gobs of cash for their brave “truth-telling” after the fact, and Biden will go down in Democrat history as the president who lost them the 2024 election. His refusal to drop out may have made things more difficult for the Democrats, but what lost them the election was their abandoning of the American people and our values. Mainstream media journalists lied to the public prolifically and audaciously for years and years, and when no one believed them anymore, they blamed the old man who couldn’t defend himself.
Just despicable.
Update 5/15/25: “I think some of the criticism is fair, to be honest,” Tapper admitted. “Knowing then what I know now, I look back at my coverage during the Biden years — and I did cover some of these issues, but not enough — I look back on it with humility.” Oh, is that it?
