Dear Memphis media and policymakers:

It is time to stop the relentless negativity surrounding the Memphis Safe Task Force. The narrative you have unfairly created depicts ICE agents and law enforcement officers as adversaries, while they tirelessly work each day to reduce violent crime and enhance the safety of Memphis neighborhoods. The rhetoric voiced by some local politicians and media outlets is a fear-based campaign that overlooks the crime concerns expressed by the people of Memphis for decades.

The truth is that everyday citizens in urban and suburban areas throughout Shelby County firmly support the efforts of President Donald Trump, Governor Bill Lee, and the Memphis Safe Task Force. These individuals are committed to protecting families from those who would turn our streets into dangerous places. Residents face challenges such as carjackings, robberies, and violent crime; this dedicated team stands on the front lines, achieving meaningful results. Their work is not just necessary but vital for the well-being of Memphis.

The issues at hand demand our collective attention, and we must prioritize safety above all else, especially alarmist politics. The citizens of Memphis deserve to feel secure in their neighborhoods, to walk freely without the anxiety of encountering crime at every turn. For the first time in years, children are playing outside, and residents are able to sleep without hearing gunshots. The Memphis Safe Task Force is a crucial part of the solution, actively working to restore a sense of peace and security. Its contributions should be recognized and supported rather than disparaged.

It is essential to hold all parties accountable, but to do so with a focus on constructive dialogue rather than blame. We should foster an atmosphere that encourages cooperation between law enforcement and the community. By supporting the Memphis Safe Task Force, we are standing up for the safety of our families and friends. We need to move beyond false narratives and criticism and instead champion the efforts that are in place to protect us.
