Is Marjorie Taylor Greene a closet Democrat? People are beginning to wonder in light of recent comments, especially following her guest appearance on ABC’s “The View.” The congresswoman from Georgia has been one of the more prominent, readily identifiable MAGA Republicans since she was first elected to Congress in 2020.

Many have called her the MAGA version of New York Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as both have a reputation for expressing forceful yet often vacuous claims. Greene is even regularly referred to by her initials, MTG, as AOC is by hers. Furthermore, both represent the loud outer edges of each respective party.

And like AOC, MTG clearly craves attention and, more significantly, power. Lust for power, not fidelity to principle, is what appears to be motivating MTG’s recent willingness to throw her own party under the bus.

On “The View,” MTG regurgitated the Democrats’ talking points about the government shutdown they caused, as if she were a lefty foot soldier. “I want all federal employees to be paid. I want all the programs to be funded,” she stated. Elsewhere, she flaunted the feminist card, saying she’s “really tired of the pissing contest in Washington, DC, between the men.” She blames Republicans for the extended shutdown, specifically the GOP leadership.

“I can’t even get [legislation] to the floor for a vote without Mike Johnson approving it," she complained. Nancy Pelosi did the same thing, but that didn’t merit a mention.

Greene also raised the tired and intellectually dishonest "uniparty” trope: “You are all victims of the political-industrial complex. And it’s built on fundraising and fighting and toxic, just, garbage. And that exists all over social media. But that’s not going to solve our problems in this country.” Please — as if she herself isn’t sitting there calling for more feeding of the Beltway Beast.

MTG also showed up as a guest on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” where she espoused the same “it’s the Republicans’ fault” Democrat talking point. “Here’s why I’m angry: the Democrats passed Obamacare, but yet the Republicans have never done anything to correct the problems that exist with it,” she leveled. “I blame my own party. That’s absolutely wrong.”

Tellingly, MTG also attacked Speaker Johnson, noting, “For a month now, you cannot give me a single policy idea, and I’m angry about that.” She has also referred to the GOP leadership as “weak” and directionless.

So, the big question is, why is MTG throwing shade at her own party? Even the ladies of “The View” were stunned, with co-host Sunny Hostin saying, “You’ve gone so right, it’s like you’re on the left now.”

MTG finally gave up her game near the end of the show when she stated, “Women to women, we need to pave a new path. This country, our beautiful country, our red, white, and blue flag, is just being ripped to shreds, and I think it takes women of maturity to sew it back together.”

Her criticism of Republicans, especially Speaker Johnson, stems from her desire to take charge; she wants to be the top dog in the House GOP. Her disparaging remarks against Johnson make sense in this light.

Even AOC sees this, likely because she has similar aspirations within her own party. In a recent livestream Instagram post, AOC claimed that MTG wanted to run for the Georgia Senate but “Trump said no, and the White House and Trump Land shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal ambitions to run for Senate, and she has been on a revenge tour ever since.” That’s … probably not wrong.

In fact, MTG appeared to back this up with her own social media post, stating, “Even with a few good Republicans in the Senate, nothing changes. So no, Jon Ossoff isn’t the real problem. He’s just a vote. A pawn. No different than the Uniparty Republicans who skip key votes to attend fundraisers and let our agenda fail.”

Who shut down the government again? According to MTG, Republicans are to blame, but only because she’s not getting the green light to seek more leadership within the party that she so flippantly smears as “weak” and directionless. Actual weakness would be caving to Democrats’ demands after they are responsible for closing down the government over an issue that they themselves are wholly responsible for creating.

MTG, we’re calling your bluff.
