The Patriot Post® · Pelosi Distances Dems From 'Occupiers'
“As opposed to the Tea Party, which was practically a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party, [Democrats] don’t really have much of a connection with the Occupy [protesters].”
As “Occupy Wall Street” becomes more embarrassing by the day, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is attempting to separate any connection between OWS and the Democrat Party.
Back in October Pelosi had nothing but praise for the Occupy movement:
The message of the protesters is a message for the establishment everyplace. No longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street. … God bless them for their spontaneity. It’s independent … it's young, it’s spontaneous, it’s focused. And it’s going to be effective.
Even more recently, Pelosi claimed that OWS has “strengthened our democracy”:
The level of civic engagement we’ve seen from ordinary Americans in recent months has strengthened our democracy. Americans must come together to demand the change they want to see in their lives.
This week, however, Pelosi changed tactics, opining that there isn’t much of a connection between OWS and Democrats. She went further by comparing Occupiers with the Tea Party:
As opposed to the Tea Party, which was practically a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party, [Democrats] don’t really have much of a connection with the Occupy [protesters]. In fact, they probably have some sentiments that overlap between the two [groups].
But here’s what Pelosi had to say in 2010 about Tea Partiers:
We share some of the views of the Tea Partiers in terms of the role of special interest in Washington, DC, as – it just has to stop. And that’s why I’ve fought the special interest, whether it’s on energy, whether it’s on health insurance, whether it’s on pharmaceuticals and the rest.
