The Patriot Post® · Dropping Crime Rate Vindicates Trump

Maybe the reason radical leftists are so anti-ICE is the fact that enforcing our nation’s immigration laws is leading to tremendous results in bringing down crime across the country. They apparently want the chaos associated with crime because it justifies leftist politicians’ call for ever-increasing Big Government. If people are not experiencing the injustice directly tied to criminal activity, they are less likely to look to the government to address problems associated with injustice.

The Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) recently released a study on crime rates across 40 large American cities. What the CCJ found was that last year alone, the homicide rate dropped by a whopping 21%. Indeed, the murder rate has dropped to a historic low not seen since 1900.

Furthermore, other crimes are down from 2024 as well: carjackings are down 61% since 2023, resident burglaries are down 17%, and shoplifting is down 10%.

The city with the greatest drop in homicides was Denver at 41%, followed closely by Washington, DC, and Omaha, with both seeing a 40% drop. Indeed, homicides dropped across all majority cities except for three that experienced a slight increase.

Crime has been dropping over the last five years since it spiked in 2020, due in large part to the COVID pandemic, during which many people were forced out of work, but primarily due to the violence surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement following the death of George Floyd.

Another interesting and informative stat is the decrease in the number of assaults with a firearm. “The average reported gun assault rate last year was 22% lower than in 2024,” the report notes. “Across the sample cities, the 2025 average gun assault rate was about 13% lower than in 2019.” That data point certainly flies in the face of the anti-Second Amendment crowd, which repeatedly and falsely claims that firearms cause crime.

It would appear that, with firearm ownership increasing over the last few years, the crime rate has gone in the opposite direction.

The Leftmedia is, unsurprisingly, perplexed as to what is behind last year’s significant drop in crime, particularly violent crime. As the New York Times headline reads, “What’s Behind the Staggering Drop in the Murder Rate? No One Knows for Sure.”

Really? No inkling as to what has transpired over the last year that could be significantly contributing to the massive drop in crime?

This is where ideology blinds one to objectivity and prevents the Leftmedia from actually making the obvious connection. If the Leftmedia were not so committed to a globalist ideology that says no one is illegal and open borders are a “good thing,” then they would recognize that the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce our immigration laws, specifically targeting criminal illegal aliens, are having a predictable and desirable effect. If you take criminals off the streets and get them out of the country, then you stop crime from being inflicted upon innocent victims.

While so much of the country is objecting to ICE enforcing our immigration laws, evidently falling for the lies that they are engaged in some form of “Gestapo-type” criminality, the truth is that they are holding criminals to account, and the result has been a massive drop in crime. Tellingly, it’s the lawless that object to the enforcement of law, not the law-abiding. Enforcing the law reduces crime and creates better, safer streets and neighborhoods. This is a good thing, and we can thank the Trump administration for upholding and enforcing our laws, despite the outsized and over-the-top objections from the lawless Left and Democrat politicians.
