The Patriot Post® · Is the Iran Conflict Déjà Vu All Over Again?
Ballplayer Yogi Berra famously said, “It’s like déjà vu all over again.” Democrats are now using that as a strategy. I’ve said this before, but warriors win the battles and politicians lose the war. I hope we’re not seeing déjà vu all over again in Iran.
Democrats made sure winning and actually defeating our enemies was not going to happen in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Will this be repeated in Iran? Don’t they know that all their past comments condemning Iran can be found in a simple Google search?
In years past, many who are now screaming “it’s an illegal war” with no strategy are on record about the evils of the Iranian regime. What happened? Donald Trump happened! The Left pontificated about the evils of Iran, but Trump took action. Venezuela should have proven to them that he’s not all talk and no action.
I came home from an unpopular war. It seemed to many of us that our nation hated us for serving in Vietnam. It didn’t take much to discover that the majority of Americans didn’t hate us; rather, they were misinformed. For years, our country saw a biased media distorting the picture of what was happening in Vietnam. They were against it and wanted the country to believe it was immoral.
My perspective is different now due to my 35 years of post-war mission work in Vietnam and meeting with former communist soldiers on every trip. They too were deceived by their leaders as to what they were fighting for. They were promised a unified country but ended up with a repressive government.
In Vietnam, I met North Vietnamese generals who said they knew they could not defeat America on the battlefield, but would through our media and anti-war protests. In 1986, my family was featured on the cover of Parade magazine. The reporter who interviewed us had been part of the anti-war movement and the takeover of Columbia University. What he told us was not shocking to those paying attention.
He became disillusioned by the protest movement when he saw that the strategy was coming from the North Vietnamese government. Protest leaders traveled to Paris during the peace talks and got their marching orders from the communists. I asked the reporter why he still hated our country if he knew about this. He could not give an answer.
Nothing has changed after all these years and conflicts. Who were the “bad guys” in the eyes of the media in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan? The warriors who put themselves in harm’s way for liberty. Democrats want to put a time limit on our involvement in Iran. They want to set a departure timeline like Barack Obama did in Afghanistan, which just encouraged the Taliban to wait us out until we eventually went home.
That’s the same strategy the communists used in Vietnam — keep sacrificing their soldiers until America got tired and shipped out. My wife Shirley and I met a lot of Vietnamese who said they wished America hadn’t quit.
It’s early in this conflict with Iran, and Trump isn’t Jimmy Carter, whose leadership allowed the fall of the Shah of Iran in 1979, resulting in the global terror network we see today. Even now, the media ask stupid questions. “When will we pull out?” When they are informed of what a stupid question that is and then told, “We stop when we have won,” the media merely reword the question another way. They are stuck on stupid.
I had been praying for this conflict for weeks before it actually started. I knew it would happen because Trump told the Iranian people who were being slaughtered by their own rulers that help was on the way. It has arrived!
Pray for all our sons and daughters in harm’s way. Pray for a quick end to the conflict and freedom for the people of Iran. Remember, with God, all things are possible!
